Effect of Increasing Supplemental Rumen Undegradable Protein (RUP) on Performance of Calves Fed a Silage Growing Diet
A growing study evaluated the effects of increasing supplemental rumen undegradable protein (RUP) on performance of calves fed an 85% corn silage diet. Five levels of supplementation were evaluated with 12 individually fed steers per level of supplement. Supplement levels consisted of 0, 3.25, 6.5, 9.75 and 13% supplemental RUP (% of diet DM) fed as a blend of 60% Soypass and 40% Empyreal. Increasing supplemental RUP in the diet increased ending body weight and average daily gain linearly, and decreased F:G linearly while DMI remained constant among treatments. As cattle grew from 600 to 730 lb, F:G was improved 30% by supplying RUP. Th e same amount of RUP improved F:G by 11% as cattle grew beyond 730 lb. By meeting MP requirements, supplementing RUP linearly improved both ADG and F:G of growing calves, especially early in the growing period

Abundances and kinematics for ten anticentre open clusters
Open clusters are distributed all across the disk and are convenient tracers
of its properties. In particular, outer disk clusters bear a key role for the
investigation of the chemical evolution of the Galactic disk. The goal of this
study is to derive homogeneous elemental abundances for a sample of ten outer
disk OCs, and investigate possible links with disk structures such as the
Galactic Anticenter Stellar Structure. We analyse high-resolution spectra of
red giants, obtained from the HIRES@Keck and UVES@VLT archives. We derive
elemental abundances and stellar atmosphere parameters by means of the
classical equivalent width method. We also performed orbit integrations using
proper motions. The Fe abundances we derive trace a shallow negative radial
metallicity gradient of slope -0.027+/-0.007 dex.kpc-1 in the outer 12 kpc of
the disk. The [alpha/Fe] gradient appears flat, with a slope of 0.006+/-0.007
dex.kpc-1 . The two outermost clusters (Be 29 and Sau 1) appear to follow
elliptical orbits. Be 20 also exhibits a peculiar orbit with a large excursion
above the plane. The irregular orbits of the three most metal-poor clusters (of
which two are located at the edge of the Galactic disk), if confirmed by more
robust astrometric measurements such as those of the Gaia mission, are
compatible with an inside-out formation scenario for the Milky Way, in which
extragalactic material is accreted onto the outer disk. We cannot determine if
Be 20, Be 29,and Sau 1 are of extragalactic origin, as they may be old genuine
Galactic clusters whose orbits were perturbed by accretion events or minor
mergers in the past 5 Gyr, or they may be representants of the thick disk
population. The nature of these objects is intriguing and deserves further

Seismic Hazard Assessment For Peninsular Malaysia Using Gumbel Distribution Method
This Paper Presents The Preliminary Study On Seismic Hazard Assessment Which Involved Developing Macrozonation Map For Two Hazard Levels, I.E. 10% And 2% Probabilities Of
Exceedance In 50 Years For Bedrock Of Peninsular Malaysia. The Analysis Was Performed Using Statistic Theory Of Extreme Values From Gumbel. The Analysis Covered The Earthquake Data Processing (Such As Choosing A Consistent Magnitude To Be Used In The Analysis And Identifying Main Shock Events), And Selection Of Appropriate Attenuation Relationship. Results Showed That The Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) Across The Peninsular Malaysia Range Between 10 And 25 Gal For 10% Probability Of Exceedance, And Between 15 And 35 Gal For 2% Probability Of Exceedance In 50 Years Hazard Levels. These Values Were Lower By About 50 To 65% Than Those Obtained From Deterministic Analysis
Young Globular Clusters and Dwarf Spheroidals
Most of the globular clusters in the main body of the Galactic halo were
formed almost simultaneously. However, globular cluster formation in dwarf
spheroidal galaxies appears to have extended over a significant fraction of a
Hubble time. This suggests that the factors which suppressed late-time
formation of globulars in the main body of the Galactic halo were not operative
in dwarf spheroidal galaxies. Possibly the presence of significant numbers of
``young'' globulars at R_{GC} > 15 kpc can be accounted for by the assumption
that many of these objects were formed in Sagittarius-like (but not
Fornax-like) dwarf spheroidal galaxies, that were subsequently destroyed by
Galactic tidal forces. It would be of interest to search for low-luminosity
remnants of parental dwarf spheroidals around the ``young'' globulars Eridanus,
Palomar 1, 3, 14, and Terzan 7. Furthermore multi-color photometry could be
used to search for the remnants of the super-associations, within which outer
halo globular clusters originally formed. Such envelopes are expected to have
