A new and efficient intelligent collaboration scheme for fashion design
Technology-mediated collaboration process has been extensively studied for over a decade. Most applications with collaboration concepts reported in the literature focus on enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of the decision-making processes in objective and well-structured workflows. However, relatively few previous studies have investigated the applications of collaboration schemes to problems with subjective and unstructured nature. In this paper, we explore a new intelligent collaboration scheme for fashion design which, by nature, relies heavily on human judgment and creativity. Techniques such as multicriteria decision making, fuzzy logic, and artificial neural network (ANN) models are employed. Industrial data sets are used for the analysis. Our experimental results suggest that the proposed scheme exhibits significant improvement over the traditional method in terms of the time–cost effectiveness, and a company interview with design professionals has confirmed its effectiveness and significance

Robust filtering for stochastic genetic regulatory networks with time-varying delay

The official published version can be obtained from the link - Copyright 2009 Elsevier LtdThis paper addresses the robust filtering problem for a class of linear genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with stochastic disturbances, parameter uncertainties and time delays. The parameter uncertainties are assumed to reside in a polytopic region, the stochastic disturbance is state-dependent described by a scalar Brownian motion, and the time-varying delays enter into both the translation process and the feedback regulation process. We aim to estimate the true concentrations of mRNA and protein by designing a linear filter such that, for all admissible time delays, stochastic disturbances as well as polytopic uncertainties, the augmented state estimation dynamics is exponentially mean square stable with an expected decay rate. A delay-dependent linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach is first developed to derive sufficient conditions that guarantee the exponential stability of the augmented dynamics, and then the filter gains are parameterized in terms of the solution to a set of LMIs. Note that LMIs can be easily solved by using standard software packages. Modelling and Analysis Using GROOVE
In this paper we present case studies that describe how the graph transformation tool GROOVE has been used to model problems from a wide variety of domains. These case studies highlight the wide applicability of GROOVE in particular, and of graph transformation in general. They also give concrete templates for using GROOVE in practice. Furthermore, we use the case studies to analyse the main strong and weak points of GROOVE
Domain-Specific Acceleration and Auto-Parallelization of Legacy Scientific Code in FORTRAN 77 using Source-to-Source Compilation
Massively parallel accelerators such as GPGPUs, manycores and FPGAs represent
a powerful and affordable tool for scientists who look to speed up simulations
of complex systems. However, porting code to such devices requires a detailed
understanding of heterogeneous programming tools and effective strategies for
parallelization. In this paper we present a source to source compilation
approach with whole-program analysis to automatically transform single-threaded
FORTRAN 77 legacy code into OpenCL-accelerated programs with parallelized
kernels.
The main contributions of our work are: (1) whole-source refactoring to allow
any subroutine in the code to be offloaded to an accelerator. (2) Minimization
of the data transfer between the host and the accelerator by eliminating
redundant transfers. (3) Pragmatic auto-parallelization of the code to be
offloaded to the accelerator by identification of parallelizable maps and
reductions.
We have validated the code transformation performance of the compiler on the
NIST FORTRAN 78 test suite and several real-world codes: the Large Eddy
Simulator for Urban Flows, a high-resolution turbulent flow model; the shallow
water component of the ocean model Gmodel; the Linear Baroclinic Model, an
atmospheric climate model and Flexpart-WRF, a particle dispersion simulator.
The automatic parallelization component has been tested on as 2-D Shallow
Water model (2DSW) and on the Large Eddy Simulator for Urban Flows (UFLES) and
produces a complete OpenCL-enabled code base. The fully OpenCL-accelerated
versions of the 2DSW and the UFLES are resp. 9x and 20x faster on GPU than the
original code on CPU, in both cases this is the same performance as manually

Design of the software development and verification system (SWDVS) for shuttle NASA study task 35
An overview of the Software Development and Verification System (SWDVS) for the space shuttle is presented. The design considerations, goals, assumptions, and major features of the design are examined. A scenario that shows three persons involved in flight software development using the SWDVS in response to a program change request is developed. The SWDVS is described from the standpoint of different groups of people with different responsibilities in the shuttle program to show the functional requirements that influenced the SWDVS design. The software elements of the SWDVS that satisfy the requirements of the different groups are identified
A Risk-Based Model Predictive Control Approach to Adaptive Interventions in Behavioral Health
This brief examines how control engineering and risk management techniques can be applied in the field of behavioral health through their use in the design and implementation of adaptive behavioral interventions. Adaptive interventions are gaining increasing acceptance as a means to improve prevention and treatment of chronic, relapsing disorders, such as abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, mental illness, and obesity. A risk-based model predictive control (MPC) algorithm is developed for a hypothetical intervention inspired by Fast Track, a real-life program whose long-term goal is the prevention of conduct disorders in at-risk children. The MPC-based algorithm decides on the appropriate frequency of counselor home visits, mentoring sessions, and the availability of after-school recreation activities by relying on a model that includes identifiable risks, their costs, and the cost/benefit assessment of mitigating actions. MPC is particularly suited for the problem because of its constraint-handling capabilities, and its ability to scale to interventions involving multiple tailoring variables. By systematically accounting for risks and adapting treatment components over time, an MPC approach as described in this brief can increase intervention effectiveness and adherence while reducing waste, resulting in advantages over conventional fixed treatment. A new framework for consensus for discrete-time directed networks of multi-agents with distributed delays
Copyright @ 2012 Taylor & FrancisIn this article, the distributed consensus problem is considered for discrete-time delayed networks of dynamic agents with fixed topologies, where the networks under investigation are directed and the time-delays involved are distributed time delays including a single or multiple time delay(s) as special cases. By using the invariance principle of delay difference systems, a new unified framework is established to deal with the consensus for the discrete-time delayed multi-agent system. It is shown that the addressed discrete-time network with arbitrary distributed time delays reaches consensus provided that it is strongly connected.
