    Unbalanced load flow with hybrid wavelet transform and support vector machine based Error-Correcting Output Codes for power quality disturbances classification including wind energy

    Purpose. The most common methods to designa multiclass classification consist to determine a set of binary classifiers and to combine them. In this paper support vector machine with Error-Correcting Output Codes (ECOC-SVM) classifier is proposed to classify and characterize the power qualitydisturbances such as harmonic distortion,voltage sag, and voltage swell include wind farms generator in power transmission systems. Firstly three phases unbalanced load flow analysis is executed to calculate difference electric network characteristics, levels of voltage, active and reactive power. After, discrete wavelet transform is combined with the probabilistic ECOC-SVM model to construct the classifier. Finally, the ECOC-SVM classifies and identifies the disturbance type according tothe energy deviation of the discrete wavelet transform.     Automatic classification of power quality disturbances using optimal feature selection based algorithm

    The development of renewable energy sources and power electronic converters in conventional power systems leads to Power Quality (PQ) disturbances. This research aims at automatic detection and classification of single and multiple PQ disturbances using a novel optimal feature selection based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN). DWT is used for the extraction of useful features, which are used to distinguish among different PQ disturbances by an ANN classifier. The performance of the classifier solely depends on the feature vector used for the training. Therefore, this research is required for the constructive feature selection based classification system. In this study, an Artificial Bee Colony based Probabilistic Neural Network (ABCPNN) algorithm has been proposed for optimal feature selection. The most common types of single PQ disturbances include sag, swell, interruption, harmonics, oscillatory and impulsive transients, flicker, notch and spikes. Moreover, multiple disturbances consisting of combination of two disturbances are also considered. The DWT with multi-resolution analysis has been applied to decompose the PQ disturbance waveforms into detail and approximation coefficients at level eight using Daubechies wavelet family. Various types of statistical parameters of all the detail and approximation coefficients have been analysed for feature extraction, out of which the optimal features have been selected using ABC algorithm. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been analysed with different architectures of ANN such as multilayer perceptron and radial basis function neural network. The PNN has been found to be the most suitable classifier. The proposed algorithm is tested for both PQ disturbances obtained from the parametric equations and typical power distribution system models using MATLAB/Simulink and PSCAD/EMTDC. The PQ disturbances with uniformly distributed noise ranging from 20 to 50 dB have also been analysed. The experimental results show that the proposed ABC-PNN based approach is capable of efficiently eliminating unnecessary features to improve the accuracy and performance of the classifier

    Learning to Extract Keyphrases from Text

    Many academic journals ask their authors to provide a list of about five to fifteen key words, to appear on the first page of each article. Since these key words are often phrases of two or more words, we prefer to call them keyphrases. There is a surprisingly wide variety of tasks for which keyphrases are useful, as we discuss in this paper. Recent commercial software, such as Microsoft?s Word 97 and Verity?s Search 97, includes algorithms that automatically extract keyphrases from documents. In this paper, we approach the problem of automatically extracting keyphrases from text as a supervised learning task. We treat a document as a set of phrases, which the learning algorithm must learn to classify as positive or negative examples of keyphrases. Our first set of experiments applies the C4.5 decision tree induction algorithm to this learning task. The second set of experiments applies the GenEx algorithm to the task. We developed the GenEx algorithm specifically for this task. The third set of experiments examines the performance of GenEx on the task of metadata generation, relative to the performance of Microsoft?s Word 97. The fourth and final set of experiments investigates the performance of GenEx on the task of highlighting, relative to Verity?s Search 97. The experimental results support the claim that a specialized learning algorithm (GenEx) can generate better keyphrases than a general-purpose learning algorithm (C4.5) and the non-learning algorithms that are used in commercial software (Word 97 and Search 97)

    The characterisation and automatic classification of transmission line faults

    Includes bibliographical references.A country's ability to sustain and grow its industrial and commercial activities is highly dependent on a reliable electricity supply. Electrical faults on transmission lines are a cause of both interruptions to supply and voltage dips. These are the most common events impacting electricity users and also have the largest financial impact on them. This research focuses on understanding the causes of transmission line faults and developing methods to automatically identify these causes. Records of faults occurring on the South African power transmission system over a 16-year period have been collected and analysed to find statistical relationships between local climate, key design parameters of the overhead lines and the main causes of power system faults. The results characterize the performance of the South African transmission system on a probabilistic basis and illustrate differences in fault cause statistics for the summer and winter rainfall areas of South Africa and for different times of the year and day. This analysis lays a foundation for reliability analysis and fault pattern recognition taking environmental features such as local geography, climate and power system parameters into account. A key aspect of using pattern recognition techniques is selecting appropriate classifying features. Transmission line fault waveforms are characterised by instantaneous symmetrical component analysis to describe the transient and steady state fault conditions. The waveform and environmental features are used to develop single nearest neighbour classifiers to identify the underlying cause of transmission line faults. A classification accuracy of 86% is achieved using a single nearest neighbour classifier. This classification performance is found to be superior to that of decision tree, artificial neural network and naΓ―ve Bayes classifiers.     FMA: A Dataset For Music Analysis

    We introduce the Free Music Archive (FMA), an open and easily accessible dataset suitable for evaluating several tasks in MIR, a field concerned with browsing, searching, and organizing large music collections. The community's growing interest in feature and end-to-end learning is however restrained by the limited availability of large audio datasets. The FMA aims to overcome this hurdle by providing 917 GiB and 343 days of Creative Commons-licensed audio from 106,574 tracks from 16,341 artists and 14,854 albums, arranged in a hierarchical taxonomy of 161 genres. It provides full-length and high-quality audio, pre-computed features, together with track- and user-level metadata, tags, and free-form text such as biographies. We here describe the dataset and how it was created, propose a train/validation/test split and three subsets, discuss some suitable MIR tasks, and evaluate some baselines for genre recognition.
