    Authoring multimedia authoring tools

Capturing devices, while continually becoming smaller and easier to use, have increased in capacity. They are also more connectable and interoperable, and their propensity to show up where they are least expected is surprising. Despite these advances, the video-capture experience is still frustrating. To achieve success, two issues need consideration. One is to determine what to capture and how, and how to handle the ensuring process required to transform the raw captured footage into a presentable multimedia artifact. Continual query on discourse theory, domain distinctives such as media aesthetics, human-computer interface issues, and multimedia data description standards is also important

Multimedia document authoring is a multifaceted activity, and authoring tools tend to concentrate on a restricted set of the activities involved in the creation of a multimedia artifact. In particular, a distinction may be drawn between the design and the implementation of a multimedia artifact. This paper presents a comparison of three different authoring paradigms, based on the common case study of a simple interactive animation. We present details of its implementation using the three different authoring tools, MCF, Fran and SMIL 2.0, and we discuss the conclusions that may be drawn from our comparison of the three approaches

    Get PDF
Multimedia Authoring is a way to develop a multimedia presentation. Multimedia content includes images, sounds, videos, texts, and animations. The Kernel Mechanism of Multimedia Authoring consists of the Multimedia Authoring Programming Language and the Multimedia Authoring Model. Multimedia Authoring modeling is designed to enable the Multimedia Authoring function appropriately. Since the beginning of designing multimedia authoring tools, various studies were conducted to create a multimedia authoring model. Multimedia Authoring models that have been studied in existing research are Petri Nets, Hoare Logic, and LOTOS. The three models use different approaches. Petri Net uses a model based on graph calculations, Hoare logic uses mathematical logic, and LOTOS uses a formal specification language. Each of these models has been developed and modified to have higher capabilities. This model modification has advantages over the original model. This review article discusses the development and modifications of these models

The integration of audio, video, graphics and text on the desktop promises to fundamentally challenge the centuries old printed document as the basis of information exchange. Before this potential can be realized, however, systems must be devised that enable the production and presentation of complex, inter-related media objects. These systems are generically called multimedia-authoring tools. This article will discuss about different aspects of Multimedia Authoring Tools (MAT), its categorization, most common features and prerequisites. A special attention has been given to discuss the most common features of MAT and the best possible evaluation criteria of authoring packages. Lastly, three most popular MAT with their brief features are presented

    Get PDF
The purpose of this project was the specification, design and implementation of a prototype 2-D MPEG-4 authoring tool. A literature study was conducted of the MPEG-4 standard and multimedia authoring tools to determine the specification and design of a prototype 2- D MPEG-4 authoring tool. The specification and design was used as a basis for the implementation of a prototype 2-D MPEG-4 authoring tool that complies with the Complete 2-D Scene Graph Profile. The need for research into MPEG-4 authoring tools arose from the reported lack of knowledge of the MPEG-4 standard and the limited implementations of MPEG-4 authoring tools available to content authors. In order for MPEG-4 to reach its full potential, it will require authoring tools and content players that satisfy the needs of its users. The theoretical component of this dissertation included a literature study of the MPEG-4 standard and an investigation of relevant multimedia authoring systems. MPEG-4 was introduced as a standard that allows for the creation and streaming of interactive multimedia content at variable bit rates over high and low bandwidth connections. The requirements for the prototype 2-D MPEG-4 authoring system were documented and a prototype system satisfying the requirements was designed, implemented and evaluated. The evaluation of the prototype system showed that the system successfully satisfied all its requirements and that it provides the user with an easy to use and intuitive authoring tool. MPEG-4 has the potential to satisfy the increasing demand for innovative multimedia content on low bandwidth networks, including the Internet and mobile networks, as well as the need expressed by users to interact with multimedia content. This dissertation makes an important contribution to the understanding of the MPEG-4 standard, its functionality and the design of a 2-D MPEG-4 Authoring tool. Multimedia Authoring for CoPs

    Get PDF
9 pagesInternational audienceOne way of providing technological support for CoPs is to help participants to produce, structure and share information. As this information becomes more and more multimedia in nature, the challenge is to build multimedia authoring and publishing tools that meets CoPs requirements. In this paper we analyze these requirements and propose a multimedia authoring model and a generic platform on which specific CoPs-oriented authoring tools can be realized. The main idea is to provide template-based authoring tools while keeping rich composition capabilities and smooth adaptability. It is based on a component-oriented approach integrating homogeneously logical, time and spatial structures. Templates are defined as constraints on these structures

E-Learning Authoring Software Selection: How Do Instructional Designers Gain Competency Using and Selecting Appropriate Digital Media Development Tools?

    Get PDF
Given the recent rapid innovation of e-learning authoring tools, academic programs responsible for preparing future training practitioners are faced with the difficult task of deciding how best to design curriculum for e-learning production skills for aspiring instructional designers and multimedia developers. To be able to appropriately design curriculum in academic programs, it would be valuable to know what tools experienced e-learning designers and developers frequently learn to use and how they select specific tools. This is important because, although many authoring tools advertise similar functionality, experienced instructional designers (IDs) and multimedia developers understand that there are subtle differences that need to be considered for novice and experienced users when thinking about the needs for a specific project. The motivation behind this pilot study is from students in a graduate e-learning certificate and master\u27s degree programs consistently asking professors for support to learn how to use and select multimedia-authoring tools. We turned to the literature to gain insight on evidence-based practices to help meet this need; however, the research in this area is currently barren

TIEMPO: an authoring and presentation system for interactive multimedia

    Get PDF
The composition of interactive multimedia titles is a challenge for all advanced multimedia authoring tools. When non-interactive titles were specified by aligning the media items on a temporal axis such as time lines or tracks, now interactive multimedia titles require a non-linear temporal model. Thus, authoring becomes more complex, and the structure of a title is more difficult to visualize. TIEMPO addresses two areas: First, a temporal model satisfying the specification needs of interactive multimedia; Secondly, an interface for easy and rapid authoring of multimedia titles. This paper presents the architecture and design principles of the TIEMPO authoring and presentation environment
