question of how to select the authentication method that suits an organisationâs requirements and specific networking environment. This paper gives an overview of EAP authentication methods and provides a table comparing their properties. It then identifies the crucial factors to be considered when employing EAP authentication methods in WLAN environments. The paper presents algorithms that guide the selection of an EAP-authentication method for a WLAN and demonstrates their application through three examples
Agri-Food Traceability Management using a RFID System with Privacy Protection
In this paper an agri-food traceability system based on public key cryptography and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is proposed. In order to guarantee safety in food, an efficient tracking and tracing system is required. RFID devices allow recording all useful information for traceability directly on the commodity. The security issues are discussed and two different methods based on public cryptography are proposed and evaluated. The first algorithm uses a nested RSA based structure to improve security, while the second also provides authenticity of data. Network layer access control for context-aware IPv6 applications
As part of the Lancaster GUIDE II project, we have developed a novel wireless access point protocol designed to support the development of next generation mobile context-aware applications in our local environs. Once deployed, this architecture will allow ordinary citizens secure, accountable and convenient access to a set of tailored applications including location, multimedia and context based services, and the public Internet. Our architecture utilises packet marking and network level packet filtering techniques within a modified Mobile IPv6 protocol stack to perform access control over a range of wireless network technologies. In this paper, we describe the rationale for, and components of, our architecture and contrast our approach with other state-of-the- art systems. The paper also contains details of our current implementation work, including preliminary performance measurements
Video Conferencing Tool
Video Conferencing Tool (VCT) is a web-based video chat application that allows users anywhere in the world to join real-time streaming video chat rooms. This product is similar to social networking sites that allow web-based video conferencing. The main advantage of VCT compared to existing tools is that it is easy to use and does not require users to download and set up additional hardware. Since this product is a browser-based solution, it allows users from multiple platforms like Windows, Linux, or Mac to join a chat room. My VCT allows users to create new public or private chat rooms or enter into existing chat rooms with the click of a button. VCT allows users to share their live audio and video to all users in the chat room. It also allows users to see the list of attendees in the chat room. VCT users can invite their friends to join video chat rooms by sending a link to their email. Friends can click the link and directly enter chat room without creating an account in VCT. The users also have the option of sending video messages to other users. Adobe Flash Media Server is used as the back end for developing this web site
A security architecture for personal networks
Abstract Personal Network (PN) is a new concept utilizing pervasive computing to meet the needs of the user. As PNs edge closer towards reality, security becomes an important concern since any vulnerability in the system will limit its practical use. In this paper we introduce a security architecture designed for PNs. Our aim is to use secure but lightweight mechanisms suitable for resource constrained devices and wireless communication. We support pair-wise keys for secure cluster formation and use group keys for securing intra-cluster communication. In order to analyze the performance of our proposed mechanisms, we carry out simulations using ns-2. The results show that our mechanisms have a low overhead in terms of delay and energy consumption
The Meeting of Acquaintances: A Cost-efficient Authentication Scheme for Light-weight Objects with Transient Trust Level and Plurality Approach
Wireless sensor networks consist of a large number of distributed sensor
nodes so that potential risks are becoming more and more unpredictable. The new
entrants pose the potential risks when they move into the secure zone. To build
a door wall that provides safe and secured for the system, many recent research
works applied the initial authentication process. However, the majority of the
previous articles only focused on the Central Authority (CA) since this leads
to an increase in the computation cost and energy consumption for the specific
cases on the Internet of Things (IoT). Hence, in this article, we will lessen
the importance of these third parties through proposing an enhanced
authentication mechanism that includes key management and evaluation based on
the past interactions to assist the objects joining a secured area without any
nearby CA. We refer to a mobility dataset from CRAWDAD collected at the
University Politehnica of Bucharest and rebuild into a new random dataset
larger than the old one. The new one is an input for a simulated authenticating
algorithm to observe the communication cost and resource usage of devices. Our
proposal helps the authenticating flexible, being strict with unknown devices
into the secured zone. The threshold of maximum friends can modify based on the
optimization of the symmetric-key algorithm to diminish communication costs
(our experimental results compare to previous schemes less than 2000 bits) and
raise flexibility in resource-constrained environments.Comment: 27 page
Using a CLIPS expert system to automatically manage TCP/IP networks and their components
A expert system that can directly manage networks components on a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network is described. Previous expert systems for managing networks have focused on managing network faults after they occur. However, this proactive expert system can monitor and control network components in near real time. The ability to directly manage network elements from the C Language Integrated Production System (CLIPS) is accomplished by the integration of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and a Abstract Syntax Notation (ASN) parser into the CLIPS artificial intelligence language
