    Analyzing the Impact of Brokered Services on the Cloud Computing Market

    This research offers a theoretical model of brokered services and provides an analysis of their impact on the cloud computing market with risk preference-based stratification of client segments. The model structures the decision problem that clients face when they choose among spot, reserved and brokered services. Although all the three types of services do not indemnify the cloud services client against other kinds of service outages, due to changes in market demand, service interruptions occur most frequently in the spot market, and are lower when brokered services are offered, and no risk of inter-ruption is involved in reserved services. Based on our analysis, we show that the profitability and sus-tainability of a cloud service broker depends on its usage of reserved resources and its capability to mitigate the risk of interruptions. We further enrich our explanation through the consideration of the distribution of clients’ risk preferences and the service vendor’s pricing decisions for reserved and spot services

    The software industry has evolved from software on the shelf based applications deployed in dedicated servers , to Software as a service based components running on public or private Clouds and now to Cloud Service Brokers So, Cloud service brokerages have emerged as digital intermediaries in the information technology (IT) services market (Shang, 2013), creating value for cloud computing clients and vendors alike. This paper presents an approach to foster next generation cloud service brokers through an ecosystem of trusted, interoperable and legally compliant cloud services through an added value Cloud Services intermediator. In recent research conducted by Garrison, he concludes that the key enablers of cloud deployment success are chiefly dependent upon relational (trust), technical, and managerial dependencies primarily borne by the firm contracting cloud computing services. In this document we expand upon their research to consider key metrics for the enterprise to consider in the successful adoption of cloud computing with a focus on the end-user. We review of applicable theories which were utilized during previous major IT shifts and well as investigate key user perspectives.     Overcoming Cloud Concerns with Trusted Execution Environments? Exploring the Organizational Perception of a Novel Security Technology in Regulated Swiss Companies

    Trusted execution environments are a new approach for isolating data, specific parts of code, or an entire application within untrusted cloud environments. This emerging security technology could also enable the migration to cloud infrastructures for organizations working with highly sensitive data. As current research does not address the organizational perception of trusted execution environments (TEEs), we conducted an explorative study to clarify the technological, environmental, and organizational views on this technology by health care, life sciences, and banking companies in Switzerland. The interview findings show that in these industries, missing technological knowledge as well as privacy and process regulation are perceived to be the most critical driver for organizational adoption of TEEs. The identified low intrinsic motivation to adopt novel technologies permits us to conclude that clarifying the regulatory impact of TEEs could drive future adoption by organizations

    Cloud Service Brokerage: A systematic literature review using a software development lifecycle

    Cloud Service Brokerage (CSB) is an emerging technology that has become popular with cloud computing. CSB is a middleman providing value added services, developed using standard software development lifecycle, from cloud providers to consumers. This paper provides a systematic literature review on this topic, covering 41 publications from 2009 to 2015. The paper aims to provide an overview of CSB research status, and give suggestions on how CSB research should proceed. A descriptive analysis reveals a lack of contributions from the Information Systems discipline. A software development lifecycle analysis uncovers a severe imbalance of research contributions across the four stages of software development: design, develop, deploy, and manage. The majority of research contributions are geared toward the design stage with a minimal contribution in the remaining stages. As such, we call for a balanced research endeavor across the cycle given the equal importance of each stage within the CSB paradigm
