Design and Implementation of Novel High Performance Domino Logic
This dissertation presents design and implementation of novel high performance domino logic techniques with increased noise robustness and reduced leakages. The speed and overhead area became the primary parameters of choice for fabrication industry that led to invention of clocked logic styles named as Dynamic logic and Domino logic families. Most importantly, power consumption, noise immunity, speed of operation, area and cost are the predominant parameters for designing any kind of digital logic circuit technique with effective trade-off amongst these parameters depending on the situation and application of design. Because of its high speed and low overhead area domino logic became process of choice for designing of high speed application circuits. The concerning issues are large power consumption and high sensitivity towards noise. Hence, there is a need for designing new domino methodology to meet the requirements by overcoming above mentioned drawbacks which led to ample opportunities for diversified research in this field. Therefore, the outcome of research must be able to handle the primary design parameters efficiently. Besides this, the designed circuit must exhibit high degree of robustness towards noise. In this thesis, few domino logic circuit techniques are proposed to deal with noise and sub-threshold leakages. Effect of signal integrity issues on domino logic techniques is studied. Furthermore, having been subjected to process corner analysis and noise analysis, the overall performance of proposed domino techniques is found to be enhanced despite a few limitations that are mentioned in this work. Besides this, lector based domino and dynamic node stabilized techniques are also proposed and are investigated thoroughly. Simulations show that proposed circuits are showing superior performance. In addition to this, domino based Schmitt triggers with various hysteresis phenomena are designed and simulated. Pre-layout and post-layout simulation results are compared for proposed Schmitt trigger. Simulations reveal that proposed Schmitt trigger techniques are more noise tolerant than CMOS counterparts. Moreover, a test chip for domino based Schmitt trigger is done in UMC 180 nm technology for fabrication

Towards product platform introduction: optimising commonality of components
Companies that design and manufacture products for a wide range of related applications need to offer the right product for each use. A platform design strategy allows designing the product range based on product platforms, where some of the components and systems are common across the range whereas other components are individual for each product variant. This paper presents the problems that a company faces when trying to introduce a platform strategy and outlines a method to find suitable components to be made common. The method is shown with a simple case. The approach uses fuzzy logic to obtain a suitable criterion to assess the overall value of the product line and a genetic algorithm for finding the set of components to be made commo
Noise Limited Computational Speed
In modern transistor based logic gates, the impact of noise on computation
has become increasingly relevant since the voltage scaling strategy, aimed at
decreasing the dissipated power, has increased the probability of error due to
the reduced switching threshold voltages. In this paper we discuss the role of
noise in a two state model that mimic the dynamics of standard logic gates and
show that the presence of the noise sets a fundamental limit to the computing
speed. An optimal idle time interval that minimizes the error probability, is
derived
On-board processing concepts for future satellite communications systems
The initial definition of on-board processing for an advanced satellite communications system to service domestic markets in the 1990's is discussed. An exemplar system with both RF on-board switching and demodulation/remodulation baseband processing is used to identify important issues related to system implementation, cost, and technology development. Analyses of spectrum-efficient modulation, coding, and system control techniques are summarized. Implementations for an RF switch and baseband processor are described. Among the major conclusions listed is the need for high gain satellites capable of handling tens of simultaneous beams for the efficient reuse of the 2.5 GHz 30/20 frequency band. Several scanning beams are recommended in addition to the fixed beams. Low power solid state 20 GHz GaAs FET power amplifiers in the 5W range and a general purpose digital baseband processor with gigahertz logic speeds and megabits of memory are also recommended
A NASA family of minicomputer systems, Appendix A
This investigation was undertaken to establish sufficient specifications, or standards, for minicomputer hardware and software to provide NASA with realizable economics in quantity purchases, interchangeability of minicomputers, software, storage and peripherals, and a uniformly high quality. The standards will define minicomputer system component types, each specialized to its intended NASA application, in as many levels of capacity as required

Approach Tolerance in the Assemblies of Evolutionary Hybrid Prototypes
A new answer is proposed to replace the traditional “one shot” prototype (manufactured in
one piece with one process): the hybrid rapid prototype. It is used to highly reduce time,
cost and increase reactivity during the development times of new products.
The part is decomposed in several components which can quickly be changed and can be
manufactured with a process the most adapted.
The main objective of the presented method is to propose an available technological
assembly between the different components of the part in the respect of technological and
topological function, and initial tolerance.
Using a graph of representation, fuzzy logic and a tolerance point of view, some entities are
associated with a CIA (Assembly Identity Card) in accordance with evolutionary and
manufacturing analysis. This work will be illustrated by an industrial tooling for plastic
injection.Mechanical Engineerin
