Deformation Control in Rest-to-Rest Motion of Mechanisms with Flexible Links
This paper develops and validates experimentally a feedback strategy for the reduction of the link deformations in rest-to-rest motion of mechanisms with flexible links, named Delayed Reference Control (DRC). The technique takes advantage of the inertial coupling between rigid-bodymotion and elasticmotion to control the undesired link deformations by shifting in time the position reference through an action reference parameter. The action reference parameter is computed on the fly based on the sensed strains by solving analytically an optimization problem. An outer control loop is closed to compute the references for the position controllers of each actuator, which can be thought of as the inner control loop. The resulting multiloop architecture of the DRC is a relevant advantage over several traditional feedback controllers: DRC can be implemented by just adding an outer control loop to standard position controllers. A validation of the proposed control strategy is provided by applying the DRC to the real-time control of a four-bar linkage
Power Flow Modelling of Dynamic Systems - Introduction to Modern Teaching Tools
As tools for dynamic system modelling both conventional methods such as
transfer function or state space representation and modern power flow based
methods are available. The latter methods do not depend on energy domain, are
able to preserve physical system structures, visualize power conversion or
coupling or split, identify power losses or storage, run on conventional
software and emphasize the relevance of energy as basic principle of known
physical domains. Nevertheless common control structures as well as analysis
and design tools may still be applied. Furthermore the generalization of power
flow methods as pseudo-power flow provides with a universal tool for any
dynamic modelling. The phenomenon of power flow constitutes an up to date
education methodology. Thus the paper summarizes fundamentals of selected power
flow oriented modelling methods, presents a Bond Graph block library for
teaching power oriented modelling as compact menu-driven freeware, introduces
selected examples and discusses special features.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, 4 table
Compliance error compensation technique for parallel robots composed of non-perfect serial chains
The paper presents the compliance errors compensation technique for
over-constrained parallel manipulators under external and internal loadings.
This technique is based on the non-linear stiffness modeling which is able to
take into account the influence of non-perfect geometry of serial chains caused
by manufacturing errors. Within the developed technique, the deviation
compensation reduces to an adjustment of a target trajectory that is modified
in the off-line mode. The advantages and practical significance of the proposed
technique are illustrated by an example that deals with groove milling by the
Orthoglide manipulator that considers different locations of the workpiece. It
is also demonstrated that the impact of the compliance errors and the errors
caused by inaccuracy in serial chains cannot be taken into account using the
superposition principle.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1204.175
Virtual Constraints and Hybrid Zero Dynamics for Realizing Underactuated Bipedal Locomotion
Underactuation is ubiquitous in human locomotion and should be ubiquitous in
bipedal robotic locomotion as well. This chapter presents a coherent theory for
the design of feedback controllers that achieve stable walking gaits in
underactuated bipedal robots. Two fundamental tools are introduced, virtual
constraints and hybrid zero dynamics. Virtual constraints are relations on the
state variables of a mechanical model that are imposed through a time-invariant
feedback controller. One of their roles is to synchronize the robot's joints to
an internal gait phasing variable. A second role is to induce a low dimensional
system, the zero dynamics, that captures the underactuated aspects of a robot's
model, without any approximations. To enhance intuition, the relation between
physical constraints and virtual constraints is first established. From here,
the hybrid zero dynamics of an underactuated bipedal model is developed, and
its fundamental role in the design of asymptotically stable walking motions is
established. The chapter includes numerous references to robots on which the
highlighted techniques have been implemented.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, bookchapte
Application of a Combined Active Control and Fault Detection Scheme to an Active Composite Flexible Structure.
In this paper, the problem of increasing reliability of active control procedure is considered. Indeed, a design method of rejection perturbation in presence of potentially faults, on a flexible structure with integrated piezo-ceramics, is presented. The piezo-ceramics are used as actuators and sensors. A single unit based solution, which handles both control action and fault diagnosis is proposed. The algorithm uses Hâ optimization techniques. A full order model of the structure is first obtained via both finite-element (FE) approach and identification procedure. This model is then reduced in order to be used in our robust approach. By a suitable choice of weightings functions, the provided method is able to reject disturbance robustly and to estimate occurred faults. The case of sensors and actuators faults is discussed. The choice of weightings for diagnosis and control systems is also tackled. Finally, the effectiveness of this integrated method is confirmed by both simulation and experimental results
