    TINA components used for service dubscription and deployment

    This paper presents a TINA-based services platform for deploying and provisioning of services, especially services supporting dynamic communication processes between individuals, such as required for distributed teamwork. The paper gives an overview of the platform architecture, and discusses two topics in more detail: (1) the Distributed Software Component (DSC) framework, which considerably facilitates the development of components from which the platform is built, and (2) some specific components of the platform, which play a crucial role in service management and deployment. In addition, a brief\ud evaluation of CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) ORBs (Object Request Broker) is given, based on the experience of using CORBA as the underlying distributed processing environment for the platform

    GTE is the Command and Control contractor for the Domain Specific Software Architectures program. The objective of this program is to develop and demonstrate an architecture-driven, component-based capability for the automated generation of command and control (C2) applications. Such a capability will significantly reduce the cost of C2 applications development and will lead to improved system quality and reliability through the use of proven architectures and components. A major focus of GTE's approach is the automated generation of application components in particular subdomains. Our initial work in this area has concentrated in the message handling subdomain; we have defined and prototyped an approach that can automate one of the most software-intensive parts of C2 systems development. This paper provides an overview of the GTE team's DSSA approach and then presents our work on automated support for message processing

    Exploring the Landscape of Ubiquitous In-home Health Monitoring: A Comprehensive Survey

    Ubiquitous in-home health monitoring systems have become popular in recent years due to the rise of digital health technologies and the growing demand for remote health monitoring. These systems enable individuals to increase their independence by allowing them to monitor their health from the home and by allowing more control over their well-being. In this study, we perform a comprehensive survey on this topic by reviewing a large number of literature in the area. We investigate these systems from various aspects, namely sensing technologies, communication technologies, intelligent and computing systems, and application areas. Specifically, we provide an overview of in-home health monitoring systems and identify their main components. We then present each component and discuss its role within in-home health monitoring systems. In addition, we provide an overview of the practical use of ubiquitous technologies in the home for health monitoring. Finally, we identify the main challenges and limitations based on the existing literature and provide eight recommendations for potential future research directions toward the development of in-home health monitoring systems. We conclude that despite extensive research on various components needed for the development of effective in-home health monitoring systems, the development of effective in-home health monitoring systems still requires further investigation.Comment: 35 pages, 5 figure

    From ARTEMIS Requirements to a Cross-Domain Embedded System Architecture

    International audienceThis paper gives an overview of the cross-domain component-based architecture GENESYS for embedded systems. The development of this architecture has been driven by key industrial challenges identified within the ARTEMIS Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) such as composability, robustness and integrated resource management. GENESYS is a platform architecture that provides a minimal set of core services and a plurality of optional services that are predominantly implemented as self-contained system components. Choosing a suitable set of these system components that implement optional services, augmented by application specific components, can generate domain-specific instantiations of the architecture (e.g., for automotive, avionic, industrial control, mobile, and consumer electronics applications). Such a cross-domain approach is needed to support the coming Internet of Things, to take full advantage of the economies of scale of the semiconductor industry and to improve productivity

    A Systematic Review of Studies Addressing the Implementation of the Evidence-Based Whole-School Reform “Success for All”

    Purpose: The effectiveness of the 14-component evidence-based whole-school reform Success for All (SfA) has been well established, but research on its implementation is limited although fidelity of implementation is vital for the effectiveness of such a program. This review sheds light on this issue. Design/Approach/Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted to acquire an overview of qualitative and quantitative aspects of SfA’s implementation in primary schools as well as to identify stimulating and hindering factors when implementing SfA. Sixteen studies, conducted in the United States and the United Kingdom, were included in this review. Findings: Results indicate that 48% of schools implemented SfA at the minimal level, 45% at a more advanced level, and 7% at an insufficient level. Information on the implementation for each of the 14 components was rare. Most of the factors that affected implementation were hindering factors rather than stimulating ones. For successful implementation of this evidence-based program, the crucial factors appear to be leadership, fulfilling organizational conditions, staff development, and relentlessly implementing all 14 components together. Originality/Value: This review shows that for an evidence-based program to be effective, implementation fidelity is a very serious concern, which needs to be addressed systematically.</p

    Support for Hardware Devices in Component Models for Embedded Systems

    Abstract -With the decreasing costs of electronic parts for embedded systems, complexity of their software has drastically increased. A possible solution for handling this high complexity is component-based development, a branch of software engineering that builds complex software systems out of encapsulated units of software named software components. Component-based approach has proven beneficial in enterprise systems and desktop domains. However, embedded system domain introduces some domain-specific problems (e.g. satisfying safetycriticality, real-time requirements and interaction with environment). Therefore, if we want to use the componentbased approach in embedded systems we must address these problems. In this paper we present an overview of how interaction with environment impacts the use of componentbased approach for embedded systems. We present different ways in which component models can enable us to manage hardware devices and provide examples from existing component models.     This document presents the state of the art related with the systematic construction and analysis of i* models for assessing COTS-based systems development. The fist section presents an overview of the Component-Based Systems (CBS) development processes. As components are part of the architecture of the system, the second section introduces the evaluation of software architectures. The i* framework has been proved useful on the representation and evaluation of software architectures, including those containing COTS, the third section presents the i* framework and some other requirements engineering techniques. As the i* framework is agent-oriented, and so, the fourth section presents an overview of agent-oriented paradigm.     C.H.A.M.P. Families : Description and Theoretical Foundations of a Paediatric Overweight and Obesity Intervention Targeting Parents-A Single-Centre Non-Randomised Feasibility Study.

    Childhood obesity represents a significant global health challenge, and treatment interventions are needed. The purpose of this paper is to describe the components and theoretical model that was used in the development and implementation of a unique parent-focussed paediatric overweight/obesity intervention. C.H.A.M.P. Families was a single-centre, prospective intervention offered to parents of children aged between 6⁻14 years with a body mass index (BMI) ≄85th percentile for age and sex. The intervention included: (1) eight group-based (parent-only) education sessions over 13-weeks; (2) eight home-based activities; and (3) two group-based (family) follow-up support sessions. The first section of the manuscript contains a detailed description of each intervention component, as well as an overview of ongoing feasibility analyses. The theoretical portion details the use of evidence-based group dynamics principles and motivational interviewing techniques within the context of a broader social cognitive theory foundation. This paper provides researchers with practical examples of how theoretical constructs and evidence-based strategies can be applied in the development and implementation of parent-focussed paediatric obesity interventions. Given the need for transparent reporting of intervention designs and theoretical foundations, this paper also adds to the areas of implementation science and knowledge translation research

    Abstract Interfaces for Data Analysis: Component Architecture for Data Analysis Tools

    The fast turnover of software technologies, in particular in the domain of interactivity (covering user interface and visualisation), makes it difficult for a small group of people to produce complete and polished software-tools before the underlying technologies make them obsolete. At the HepVis '99 workshop, a working group has been formed to improve the production of software tools for data analysis in HENP. Beside promoting a distributed development organisation, one goal of the group is to systematically design a set of abstract interfaces based on using modern OO analysis and OO design techniques. An initial domain analysis has come up with several categories (components) found in typical data analysis tools: Histograms, Ntuples, Functions, Vectors, Fitter, Plotter, Analyzer and Controller. Special emphasis was put on reducing the couplings between the categories to a minimum, thus optimising re-use and maintainability of any component individually. The interfaces have been defined in Java and C++ and implementations exist in the form of libraries and tools using C++ (Anaphe/Lizard, OpenScientist) and Java (Java Analysis Studio). A special implementation aims at accessing the Java libraries (through their Abstract Interfaces) from C++. This paper gives an overview of the architecture and design of the various components for data analysis as discussed in AIDA
