Implementation of Large Scale Integrated (LSI) circuit design software

    Get PDF
Portions of the Computer Aided Design and Test system, a collection of Large Scale Integrated (LSI) circuit design programs were modified and upgraded. Major modifications were made to the Mask Analysis Program in the form of additional operating commands and file processing options. Modifications were also made to the Artwork Interactive Design System to correct some deficiencies in the original program as well as to add several new command features related to improving the response of AIDS when dealing with large files. The remaining work was concerned with updating various programs within CADAT to incorporate the silicon on sapphire silicon gate technology

High and low threshold P-channel metal oxide semiconductor process and description of microelectronics facility

    Get PDF
The fabrication techniques and detail procedures for creating P-channel Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (P-MOS) integrated circuits at George C. Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) are described. Examples of P-MOS integrated circuits fabricated at MSFC together with functional descriptions of each are given. Typical electrical characteristics of high and low threshold P-MOS discrete devices under given conditions are provided. A general description of MSFC design, mask making, packaging, and testing procedures is included. The capabilities described in this report are being utilized in: (1) research and development of new technology, (2) education of individuals in the various disciplines and technologies of the field of microelectronics, and (3) fabrication of many types of specially designed integrated circuits which are not commercially feasible in small quantities for in-house research and development programs

Requirements specification for nickel cadmium battery expert system

    Get PDF
The requirements for performance, design, test, and qualification of a computer program identified as NICBES, Nickel Cadmium Battery Expert System, is established. The specific spacecraft power system configuration selected was the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Electrical Power System (EPS) Testbed. Power for the HST comes from a system of 13 Solar Panel Arrays (SPAs) linked to 6 Nickel Cadmium Batteries which are connected to 3 Busses. An expert system, NICBES, will be developed at Martin Marietta Aerospace to recognize a testbed anomaly, identify the malfunctioning component and recommend a course of action. Besides fault diagnosis, NICBES will be able to evaluate battery status, give advice on battery status and provide decision support for the operator. These requirements are detailed

Development of a static feed water electrolysis system

    Get PDF
A one person level oxygen generation subsystem was developed and production of the one person oxygen metabolic requirements, 0.82 kg, per day was demonstrated without the need for condenser/separators or electrolyte pumps. During 650 hours of shakedown, design verification, and endurance testing, cell voltages averaged 1.62 V at 206 mA/sq cm and at average operating temperature as low as 326 K, virtually corresponding to the state of the art performance previously established for single cells. This high efficiency and low waste heat generation prevented maintenance of the 339 K design temperature without supplemental heating. Improved water electrolysis cell frames were designed, new injection molds were fabricated, and a series of frames was molded. A modified three fluid pressure controller was developed and a static feed water electrolysis that requires no electrolyte in the static feed compartment was developed and successfully evaluated

Development and testing of Parabolic Dish Concentrator No. 1

    Get PDF
Parabolic Dish Concentrator No. 1 (PDC-1) is a 12-m-diameter prototype concentrator with low life-cycle costs for use with thermal-to-electric energy conversion devices. The concentrator assembly features panels made of a resin transfer molded balsa core/fiberglass sandwich with plastic reflective film as the reflective surface and a ribbed framework to hold the panels in place. The concentrator assembly tracks in azimuth and elevation on a base frame riding on a circular track. It is shown that the panels do not exhibit the proper parabolic contour. However, thermal gradients were discovered in the panels with daily temperature changes. The PDC-1 has sufficient optical quality to operate satisfactorily in a dish-electric system. The PDC-1 development provides the impetus for creating innovative optical testing methods and valuable information for use in designing and fabricating concentrators of future dish-electric systems

A survey of life support system automation and control

    Get PDF
The level of automation and control necessary to support advanced life support systems for use in the manned space program is steadily increasing. As the length and complexity of manned missions increase, life support systems must be able to meet new space challenges. Longer, more complex missions create new demands for increased automation, improved sensors, and improved control systems. It is imperative that research in these key areas keep pace with current and future developments in regenerative life support technology. This paper provides an overview of past and present research in the areas of sensor development, automation, and control of life support systems for the manned space program, and it discusses the impact continued research in several key areas will have on the feasibility, operation, and design of future life support systems

Learning Style Diversity in Post –Secondary Distance Education

    Get PDF
During the fall semester of 2005, 153 university graduate students’ preferred learning styles were measured with the Kolb Learning Style Inventory, online version 3.1. The primary findings of the study indicated all of the learning styles and processes described by Kolb were represented in the distance learning population and suggested distance and residential learners uniquely engage the learning process. Biblical references were discussed with respect to the uniqueness displayed by study participants
