    A‎ ‎solution ‎procedure ‎to ‎solve‎ multi-objective linear fractional programming problem in neutrosophic fuzzy environment

    In this paper, an attempt has been taken to develop a method to solve the neutrosophic multiobjective linear fractional programming (NMOLFPP) problem. In the first step of our method, the problem is linearized based on some transformations. Then, the linearized model is reduced to a crisp multi-objective programming problem with the help of the accuracy function for each objective. In the following, we extended Zimmerman’s approach to maximize the truth membership and minimize the indeterminacy and falsity membership functions in the solution procedure. Finally, to illustrate the proposed approach, a numerical example is included

    An International Workshop on Interactive Decision Analysis and Interpretative Computer Intelligence was held at IIASA in September 1983. The Workshop was motivated, firstly, by the realization that the rapid development of computers, especially microcomputers, will greatly increase the scope and capabilities of computerized decision-support systems. It is important to explore the potential of these systems for use in handling the complex technological, environmental, economic and social problems that face the world today. Research in decision-support systems also has another, less tangible but possibly more important, motivation. The development of efficient systems for decision support requires a thorough understanding of the differences between the decision-making processes in different nations and cultures. An understanding of the different rationales underlying decision making is not only necessary for the development of efficient decision-support systems, but it is also an important factor in encouraging international understanding and cooperation. The Proceedings of the Workshop which are contained in this volume are divided in four main sections. The first section consists of an introductory lecture in which a unifying approach to the use of computers and computerized mathematical models for decision analysis and support is described. The second section is concerned with approaches and concepts in interactive decision analysis and section three is devoted to methods and techniques for decision analysis. The final section contains descriptions of a wide range of applications of interactive techniques, covering the fields of economics, public policy planning, energy policy evaluation, hydrology and industrial development

    Large-Scale Modelling and Interactive Decision Analysis

    These Proceedings report the scientific results of an International Workshop attended by more than fifty scientists from thirteen countries. This volume is structured in three parts: (I) Theory and Methodology, (II) Interaction Principles and Computational Aspects and (III) Applications. Part I contains papers dealing with utility and game theory, multicriteria optimizations theory and interactive procedures, dynamic models/systems and concepts of multicriteria analysis. Papers dealing with the user-machine interface, intelligent (user-friendly) decision support and problems of computational aspects are included in Part II. Contributions with applications are mainly concentrated in Part III but can also be found in several papers in other parts. Use of the term "large-scale" in the title of the Proceedings was especially substantiated by contributions dealing with modelling and decision analysis problems of the size of a whole national economy like structuring the carbochemical industry, the energy system or even natural gas trade in Europe

    System reliability optimization : a fuzzy genetic algorithm approach

    System reliability optimization is often faced with imprecise and conflicting goals such as reducing the cost of the system and improving the reliability of the system. The decision making process becomes fuzzy and multi-objective. In this paper, we formulate the problem as a fuzzy multi-objective nonlinear program (FMOOP). A fuzzy multiobjective genetic algorithm approach (FMGA) is proposed for solving the multi-objective decision problem in order to handle the fuzzy goals and constraints. The approach is able flexible and adaptable, allowing for intermediate solutions, leading to high quality solutions. Thus, the approach incorporates the preferences of the decision maker concerning the cost and reliability goals through the use of fuzzy numbers. The utility of the approach is demonstrated on benchmark problems in the literature. Computational results show that the FMGA approach is promising

    Development of Interactive Support Systems for Multiobjective Decision Analysis under Uncertainty

    This paper presents interactive multiobjective decision analysis support systems, called MIDASS, which is a newly developed interactive computer program for strategic use of expected utility theory. Decision analysis based on expected utility hypothesis is an established prescriptive approach for supporting business decisions under uncertainty, which embodies an effective procedure for seeking the best choice among alternatives. It is usually difficult, however, for the decision maker (DM) to apply it for the strategic use in the realistic business situations. MIDASS provides an integrated interactive computer system for supporting multiobjective decision analysis under uncertainty, which assists to derive an acceptable business solution for DM with the construction of his/her expected multiattribute utility fuction (EMUF).expected multiobjective decision analysis, MIDASS, expected multiattribute utility function (EMUF), intelligent decision support systems (IDSS).

    Optimization Models Using Fuzzy Sets and Possibility Theory

    Optimization is of central concern to a number of disciplines. Operations Research and Decision Theory are often considered to be identical with optimization. But also in other areas such as engineering design, regional policy, logistics and many others, the search for optimal solutions is one of the prime goals. The methods and models which have been used over the last decades in these areas have primarily been "hard" or "crisp", i.e. the solutions were considered to be either feasible or unfeasible, either above a certain aspiration level or below. This dichotomous structure of methods very often forced the modeler to approximate real problem situations of the more-or-less type by yes-or-no-type models, the solutions of which might turn out not to be the solutions to the real problems. This is particularly true if the problem under consideration includes vaguely defined relationships, human evaluations, uncertainty due to inconsistent or incomplete evidence, if natural language has to be modeled or if state variables can only be described approximately. Until recently, everything which was not known with certainty, i.e. which was not known to be either true or false or which was not known to either happen with certainty or to be impossible to occur, was modeled by means of probabilities. This holds in particular for uncertainties concerning the occurrence of events. probability theory was used irrespective of whether its axioms (such as, for instance, the law of large numbers) were satisfied or not, or whether the "events" could really be described unequivocally and crisply. In the meantime one has become aware of the fact that uncertainties concerning the occurrence as well as concerning the description of events ought to be modeled in a much more differentiated way. New concepts and theories have been developed to do this: the theory of evidence, possibility theory, the theory of fuzzy sets have been advanced to a stage of remarkable maturity and have already been applied successfully in numerous cases and in many areas. Unluckily, the progress in these areas has been so fast in the last years that it has not been documented in a way which makes these results easily accessible and understandable for newcomers to these areas: text-books have not been able to keep up with the speed of new developments; edited volumes have been published which are very useful for specialists in these areas, but which are of very little use to nonspecialists because they assume too much of a background in fuzzy set theory. To a certain degree the same is true for the existing professional journals in the area of fuzzy set theory. Altogether this volume is a very important and appreciable contribution to the literature on fuzzy set theory

    IIASA's approach to research in Multiple Objective Decision Support, Multiple Criteria Optimization (MCO) and related topics assumes a high level of synergy between three main components: methodological and theoretical backgrounds, computer implementation and decision support systems and real life applications. This synergy is reflected in the subjects of papers presented at the Conference as well as in the structure of the Proceedings which is divided into three main sections. In the first section, "Theory and Methodology of Multiple Criteria Optimization," 21 papers discussing new theoretical developments in MCO are presented. The second section, "Applications of Multiple Criteria Optimization, " contains nine papers dealing with real-life applications of MCO. Five papers on the application of MCO in the development of Decision Support Systems are included in the final section, "Multiple Criteria Decision Support." Among the important outcomes of this Conference were conclusions regarding further directions of research for Multiple Criteria Optimization, in particular, in the context of cooperation between scientists from Eastern and Western countries

    Methodology and Software for Interactive Decision Support

    These Proceedings report the scientific results of an International Workshop on "Methodology and Software for Interactive Decision Support" organized jointly by the System and Decision Sciences Program of IIASA and The National Committee for Applied Systems Analysis and Management in Bulgaria. Several other Bulgarian institutions sponsored the workshop -- The Committee for Science to the Council of Ministers, The State Committee for Research and Technology and The Bulgarian Industrial Association. The workshop was held in Albena, on the Black Sea Coast. In the first section, "Theory and Algorithms for Multiple Criteria Optimization," new theoretical developments in multiple criteria optimization are presented. In the second section, "Theory, Methodology and Software for Decision Support Systems," the principles of building decision support systems are presented as well as software tools constituting the building components of such systems. Moreover, several papers are devoted to the general methodology of building such systems or present experimental design of systems supporting certain class of decision problems. The third section addresses issues of "Applications of Decision Support Systems and Computer Implementations of Decision Support Systems." Another part of this section has a special character. Beside theoretical and methodological papers, several practical implementations of software for decision support have been presented during the workshop. These software packages varied from very experimental and illustrative implementations of some theoretical concept to well developed and documented systems being currently commercially distributed and used for solving practical problems

    Multiple Criteria Decision Making has been an important and active research area for some 20 years. In the 1970's, research focused on the theory of multiple objective mathematical programming and on procedures for solving multiple objective mathematical programming problems. During the 1980's, a shift in emphasis towards multiple criteria decision support was observed. Accordingly, much research has focused on the user interface, the behavioral foundations of decision making, and on supporting the entire decision-making process from problem structuring to solution implementation. Because of the shift in research emphasis the authors decided to make "Multiple Criteria Decision Support" the theme for the International Workshop, which was held at Suomen Saeaestoepankkiopisto in Espoo, Finland. The Workshop was organized by the Helsinki School of Economics, and sponsored by the Helsinki School of Economics and IIASA, Austria. This volume provides an up-to-date coverage of the theory and practice of multiple criteria decision support. The authors trust that it will serve the research community as well as the previously published Conference Proceedings based on IIASA Workshops
