IVAs, incorporating generative AI technologies such as ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion, hold the potential to bring about a paradigm shift in educational programs, emphasizing the enhancement of advanced metacognitive capacities rather than the fundamentals of communication. The subsequent recommendations stress the need to cultivate enduring proficiencies and ascertain tailored learning approaches for each learner, which will be indispensable for success in the evolving job market. In this context, prompt engineering is emerging as a vital competency, while continuous reskilling and lifelong learning become professional requisites. The proposed innovative method for teaching writing skills and content generation advocates for a reconfiguration of curricula to concentrate on applied learning techniques that accentuate the value of contextual judgment as a central pedagogical tenet and the mastery of sophisticated metacognitive abilities, which will be pivotal in the future of work
âBridging Activities,â New Media Literacies, and Advanced Foreign Language Proficiency
In this article we propose the pedagogical model bridging activities to address advanced foreign language proficiency in the context of existing and emerging internet communication and information tools and communities. The article begins by establishing the need for language and genre-focused activities at the advanced level that attend to the shifting social practices and emerging literacies associated with digital media. Grounded in principles of language awareness and the concept of multiliteracies, the bridging activities model centers on guided exploration and analysis of student selected or created digital vernacular texts originating in Web 2.0 and other technologies/practices such as instant messaging and synchronous chat, blogs and wikis, remixing, and multiplayer online gaming. Application of the model includes an iterative implementation cycle of observation and collection, guided exploration and analysis, and creation and participation. In sum, the bridging activities approach is designed to enhance engagement and relevance through the incorporation of studentsâ digital-vernacular expertise, experience, and curiosity, coupled with instructor guidance at the level of semiotic form to explore interactional features, discourse-level grammar, and genre. The ultimate goal is to foster critical awareness of the anatomy and functional organization of a wide range of communicative practices relating to both digital and analogue textual conventions

Augmented Creativity: Leveraging Natural Language Processing for Creative Writing
Recent advances have moved natural language processing (NLP) capabilities with artificial intelligence beyond mere grammar and spell-checking functionality. One such new use that has arisen is the ability to suggest new content to writers to inspire new ideas by using âmachine-in-the-loopâ strategies in creative writing. In order to explore the possibilities of such a strategy, this study provides a model to be adopted in creative writing courses in higher education. An NLP application was created using Python and spaCy and deployed via Streamlit. The AI allowed students to see if their grammar aligned with those principles and techniques taught in class to assist with a deeper understanding of the grammatical aspects of the content and also to improve their creativity as writers. The study at hand seeks to determine the efficacy of a new proprietary NLP on improving understanding of grammar and creativity in student writing. Participants in the study were assessed through surveys and open-ended questions. Findings note that participants agreed the algorithm assisted them in a better understanding of grammar but were not as receptive to assistance in improving their creativity. It should also be noted that the suggestions provided by the algorithm did not necessarily improve the written artifacts submitted in the study. DigitalBeing: an Ambient Intelligent Dance Space.
DigitalBeing is an ambient intelligent system that aims to use stage lighting and lighting in projected imagery within a dance performance to portray dancerâs arousal state. The dance space will be augmented with pressure sensors to track dancersâ movements; dancers will also wear physiological sensors. Sensor data will be passed to a three layered architecture. Layer 1 is composed of a system that analyzes sensor data. Layer 2 is composed of two intelligent lighting systems that use the analyzed sensor information to adapt onstage and virtual lighting to show dancerâs arousal level. Layer 3 translates lighting changes to appropriate lighting board commands as well as rendering commands to render the projected imagery
The Discourse of Digital Deceptions and â419â Emails
This study applies a computer-mediated discourse analysis
(CMDA) to the study of discourse structures and functions of â419â emails â the Nigerian term for online/financial fraud. The hoax mails are in the form of online lottery winning announcements, and email âbusiness proposalsâ
involving money transfers/claims of dormant bank accounts overseas. Data comprise 68 email samples collected from the researcherâs inboxes and colleaguesâ and studentsâ mail boxes between January 2008 and March 2009 in Ota, Nigeria. The study reveals that the writers of the mails apply
discourse/pragmatic strategies such as socio-cultural greeting formulas,self-identification, reassurance/confidence building, narrativity and action
prompting strategies to sustain the interest of the receivers. The study also shows that this genre of computer-mediated communication (CMC) has become a regular part of our Internet experience, and is not likely to be extinct in the near future as previous studies of email hoaxes have predicted. It is believed that as the global economy witnesses a recession, chances are that more creative and complex ways of combating the situation will arise.
