    A CAM controlled machine, one step to make machining as easy as printing

    Manufacturing parts using a CNC machine needs highly skilled people. The development of new, user friendly human machine interfaces should make machining a designed part to be as simple as printing a document. A step towards this goal is to integrate CAM Software and CNC Machine controllers. The project aims to develop a new type of milling machine to simplify the stages between the design stage in CAD software and the manufacture of the designed part using the CNC machine. The solution chosen to achieve this is to integrate the CAM software, for this project the software is ESPRIT, with the CNC controller of the CNC machine.     Pembelajaran atas talian merupakan salah satu medium pembelajaran yang perlu diinovasikan dalam kaedah penyampaian maklumat kepada pelajar. Kajian ini melaporkan tentang pembangunan video pembelajaran atas talian bagi kursus Teknologi Pemesinan. bagi meningkatkan minat pelajar Pendidikan Teknik dan Vokasional (PTV) dalam proses P&P. Reka bentuk kajian ini adalah membangunkan produk iaitu pembangunan video pembelajaran berdasarkan model PIE. Metodologi pembangunan objek pembelajaran melibatkan fasa Perancangan, Perlaksanaan dan penilaian. Kajian ini adalah berdasarkan pembangunan produk berdasarkan pengesahan pakar bagi membangunan dan menilai produk. Kajian ini dibangunkan berdasarkan pengesahan pakar bagi menilai pembangunan video. Instrumen penilaian objek pembelajaran ini dibangunkan bagi menilai elemen multimedia yang terdiri dari aspek teks, audio, animasi, grafik dan isi kandungan pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan persembahan keseluruhan video pembelajaran yang menggunakan website (wix.com) ini adalah sesuai dan menarik untuk P&P bagi kursus Teknologi Pemesinan

    Time Localization of Abrupt Changes in Cutting Process using Hilbert Huang Transform

    Cutting process is extremely dynamical process influenced by different phenomena such as chip formation, dynamical responses and condition of machining system elements. Different phenomena in cutting zone have signatures in different frequency bands in signal acquired during process monitoring. The time localization of signal’s frequency content is very important. An emerging technique for simultaneous analysis of the signal in time and frequency domain that can be used for time localization of frequency is Hilbert Huang Transform (HHT). It is based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) of the signal into intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) as simple oscillatory modes. IMFs obtained using EMD can be processed using Hilbert Transform and instantaneous frequency of the signal can be computed. This paper gives a methodology for time localization of cutting process stop during intermittent turning. Cutting process stop leads to abrupt changes in acquired signal correlated to certain frequency band. The frequency band related to abrupt changes is localized in time using HHT.
