The successful implementation of e-government transformation: A case study in Oman
The aim of this paper is to investigate, and to discuss the key critical factors that facilitate the successful implementation of E-government projects. The nature of this research is mainly qualitative. This investigation uses a single case study and data was mainly collected by means of semi-structured interviews and organisational documents from the Ministry of Higher Education in Oman. The research findings suggest that there are three paradigms which each include a set of factors that impacts the success of E-government success namely, organisational paradigm, technology paradigm and end-users paradigm. The authors believe that, this paper demonstrates an added value to the current literature on transformation of E-government and to E-government projects success, within the wider context of E-government implementation projects. Also the research will benefit organisations in the public sector, as it has identified main key success factors in E-government transformations and implementations

A framework of justification criteria for advanced manufacturing technology implementation in small and medium enterprises
Today in order to stay in businesses and prosper, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are seeking higher electiveness and competitiveness across the entire cycle of marketing, product design, manufacture, test and sales. SMEs play an increasingly important role in all aspects of competitiveness: both products and production techniques, but also management methods, the organization of the firm and human resources training. One of the ways by which SMEs can achieve a competitive advantage in manufacturing is through the implementation of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT). An increasing number of them have chosen and are choosing various levels of AMT as the solution. Realizing the importance of SMEs, an attempt has been made in this paper to review the application of AMT in SMEs. Also, a framework has been offered for the implementation of AMT in SMEs. Finally, a summary of findings and conclusions are presented

Conducting of the linkage between information systems strategy (ISS) and Operation Strategy in the case of 'X' Airlines in Arabic gulf country
The integration of IS/IT strategy with other business units' strategies has become an important issue. The layer of integration through business strategies requires an explanation of interrelationships so that business objectives appropriate to the available resources and market conditions can be established. This study is a comprehensive examination of the relationship between IS and operational strategy at 'X' Airlines. Operation is considered one of the core activities at 'X'. In this study, the researcher employs a qualitative method, presenting the literature on IS integration and utilising a case study approach to understand the how and why of using IS at 'X'. This study discusses the existing frameworks, both theoretical and practical, for IS strategic integration. The results show that there are strong relationships but as a traditional kind of back office support of IS for operational strategy within 'X'
IT integration, operations flexibility and performance: an empirical study
Purpose: This study examines the relationship between IT implementation and performance
with manufacturing flexibility based on a sample drawn from a set of manufacturing firms.
Design/methodology/approach: The relationships were analyzed using structural equations
modelling (SEM) using EQS 6.2 software. Previously, an explanatory factor analysis confirmed
one-dimensionality of the scales, Cronbach’s alpha was calculated to evaluate its internal
consistency and a confirmatory factor analysis was run to observe scales’ validity.
Findings: This research proves a significant positive and direct effect of IT implementation on
operations performance with 4 out of 6 flexibility dimensions (Machine, Labour, Material
handling and Volume). Mix and Routing flexibility dimensions show no significant impact on
firm performance.
Research limitations/implications: It is necessary to be cautious when generalizing this
findings these findings, as service firms were not part of the sample even when statistical results
prove robustness suggesting that the findings are quite reliable. Some flexibility dimensions show
no significant impact in performance (Routing and Mix flexibility). This is consistent with the fact
that these flexibility dimensions act as variability absorbers within the manufacturing process.
Future research lines: Future studies can focus on determining further internal and
environmental factors that affect operations flexibility according to specific sector characteristics.
Originality/value: This research proves a significant positive and direct effect of IT
implementation on operations performance. Results show not only the links between IT
implementation and operations performance, but also the magnitude of every impact. The model
considers IT integration as the degree of alignment that existing technology resources in a firm

SMEs: ERP or virtual collaboration teams
Small firms are indeed the engines of global economic growth. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play an important role to promote economic development. SMEs in the beginning of implementing new technologies always face capital shortage and need technological assistance. Available ERP systems do not fulfil the specific requirements of Small firms. SMEs has scarce resources and manpower therefore many SMEs don?t have the possessions to buy and operate an ERP System. On the other hand competition and competitiveness of SMEs have to be strengthened. This paper briefly reviews the existing perspectives on virtual teams and their effect on SMEs management. It also discusses the main characteristics of virtual teams and clarifies the differences aspects of virtual team application in SMEs. After outlining some of the main advantages and pitfall of such teams, it concentrates on comparing of ERP and virtual collaborative teams in SMEs. Finally, it provides evidence for the need of ?Software as a Service (SaaS)? where an application is hosted as a service provided to customers across the web for SMEs as an alternative of ERP. Applying performance measures to support decision-making in supply chain operations: a case of beverage industry
Performance measurement systems (PMS) have commonly been applied to evaluate and reward performances at
managerial levels, especially in the context of supply chain management. However, evidence suggests that the effective
use of PMS can also positively influence the behaviour and improve performance at an operational level. The motivation
is to accomplish organisational goals, namely to increase supply chain flexibility by responding to evermore-varying customer
demands in a timely manner. The purpose of the study described in this paper was to develop a conceptual framework
that adopts performance measures for ex-ante decision-making at an operational level within the supply chain. To
guide the research, five questions were asked and subsequently key gaps have been identified. In an attempt to fill the
gaps, a case study at a major global brand beverage company has been carried out, and as a result, a conceptual framework
of the PMS has been developed. Overall, the research offers a foundation of the applicability and impact of PMS
in the supply chain and provides a framework that attends to some of the potential uses of PMS that so far have not
been practically applied. The outcomes from the testing indicate that the initial gaps identified in the literature have been
addressed and that the framework is judicious with scope for practical applicability. The framework is deemed worthy of
further testing in different operational contexts of the supply chain
Contextual impacts on industrial processes brought by the digital transformation of manufacturing: a systematic review
The digital transformation of manufacturing (a phenomenon also known as "Industry 4.0" or "Smart Manufacturing") is finding a growing interest both at practitioner and academic levels, but is still in its infancy and needs deeper investigation. Even though current and potential advantages of digital manufacturing are remarkable, in terms of improved efficiency, sustainability, customization, and flexibility, only a limited number of companies has already developed ad hoc strategies necessary to achieve a superior performance. Through a systematic review, this study aims at assessing the current state of the art of the academic literature regarding the paradigm shift occurring in the manufacturing settings, in order to provide definitions as well as point out recurring patterns and gaps to be addressed by future research. For the literature search, the most representative keywords, strict criteria, and classification schemes based on authoritative reference studies were used. The final sample of 156 primary publications was analyzed through a systematic coding process to identify theoretical and methodological approaches, together with other significant elements. This analysis allowed a mapping of the literature based on clusters of critical themes to synthesize the developments of different research streams and provide the most representative picture of its current state. Research areas, insights, and gaps resulting from this analysis contributed to create a schematic research agenda, which clearly indicates the space for future evolutions of the state of knowledge in this field
