    Adaptive SOA Stack-based Business Process Monitoring Platform

    Executable business processes that formally describe company activities are well placed in the SOA environment as they allow for declarative organization of high-level system logic.However, for both technical and non-technical users, to fully benet from that element of abstractionappropriate business process monitoring systems are required and existing solutions remain unsatisfactory.The paper discusses the problem of business process monitoring in the context of the service orientation paradigm in order to propose an architectural solution and provide implementation of a system for business process monitoring that alleviates the shortcomings of the existing solutions.Various platforms are investigated to obtain a broader view of the monitoring problem and to gather functional and non-functional requirements. These requirements constitute input forthe further analysis and the system design. The monitoring software is then implemented and evaluated according to the specied criteria.An extensible business process monitoring system was designed and built on top of OSGiMM - a dynamic, event-driven, congurable communications layer that provides real-time monitoring capabilities for various types of resources. The system was tested against the stated functional requirements and its implementation provides a starting point for the further work.It is concluded that providing a uniform business process monitoring solution that satises a wide range of users and business process platform vendors is a dicult endeavor. It is furthermore reasoned that only an extensible, open-source, monitoring platform built on top of a scalablecommunication core has a chance to address all the stated and future requirements

    The evolution of cloud native application architectures has yielded infrastructures (comprising microservices, etc.) entailing a variety of challenges. The need exists for an optimum ‘Event Mesh’ type of technique for sending data via asynchronous event handling mechanisms across cloud scale data center sites (e.g., in different regions) that is agnostic to any underlying facilities. Such a sharing of contextual data between clusters across hybrid cloud environments may be referred to as ‘Hybrid Cloud Chaining’ within the context of the techniques that are presented herein. To address the types of challenges that were described above, techniques are presented herein that provide an adaptive Event Mesh-driven method to identify an optimum traffic engineered path, through the use of Segment Routing over Internet Protocol (IP) version 6 (SRv6) elements, for performing ‘cloud chaining’ across clusters in a hybrid cloud environment

    IoT@run-time: a model-based approach to support deployment and self-adaptations in IoT systems

    Today, most Internet of Things (IoT) systems leverage edge and fog computing to meet increasingly restrictive requirements and improve quality of service (QoS). Although these multi-layer architectures can improve system performance, their design is challenging because the dynamic and changing IoT environment can impact the QoS and system operation. In this thesis, we propose a modeling-based approach that addresses the limitations of existing studies to support the design, deployment, and management of self-adaptive IoT systems. We have designed a domain specific language (DSL) to specify the self-adaptive IoT system, a code generator that generates YAML manifests for the deployment of the IoT system, and a framework based on the MAPE-K loop to monitor and adapt the IoT system at runtime. Finally, we have conducted several experimental studies to validate the expressiveness and usability of the DSL and to evaluate the ability and performance of our framework to address the growth of concurrent adaptations on an IoT system.Hoy en día, la mayoría de los sistemas de internet de las cosas (IoT, por su sigla en inglés) aprovechan la computación en el borde (edge computing) y la computación en la niebla (fog computing) para cumplir requisitos cada vez más restrictivos y mejorar la calidad del servicio. Aunque estas arquitecturas multicapa pueden mejorar el rendimiento del sistema, diseñarlas supone un reto debido a que el entorno de IoT dinámico y cambiante puede afectar a la calidad del servicio y al funcionamiento del sistema. En esta tesis proponemos un enfoque basado en el modelado que aborda las limitaciones de los estudios existentes para dar soporte en el diseño, el despliegue y la gestión de sistemas de IoT autoadaptables. Hemos diseñado un lenguaje de dominio específico (DSL) para modelar el sistema de IoT autoadaptable, un generador de código que produce manifiestos YAML para el despliegue del sistema de IoT y un marco basado en el bucle MAPE-K para monitorizar y adaptar el sistema de IoT en tiempo de ejecución. Por último, hemos llevado a cabo varios estudios experimentales para validar la expresividad y usabilidad del DSL y evaluar la capacidad y el rendimiento de nuestro marco para abordar el crecimiento de las adaptaciones concurrentes en un sistema de IoT.Avui dia, la majoria dels sistemes d'internet de les coses (IoT, per la sigla en anglès) aprofiten la informàtica a la perifèria (edge computing) i la informàtica a la boira (fog computing) per complir requisits cada cop més restrictius i millorar la qualitat del servei. Tot i que aquestes arquitectures multicapa poden millorar el rendiment del sistema, dissenyar-les suposa un repte perquè l'entorn d'IoT dinàmic i canviant pot afectar la qualitat del servei i el funcionament del sistema. En aquesta tesi proposem un enfocament basat en el modelatge que aborda les limitacions dels estudis existents per donar suport al disseny, el desplegament i la gestió de sistemes d'IoT autoadaptatius. Hem dissenyat un llenguatge de domini específic (DSL) per modelar el sistema d'IoT autoadaptatiu, un generador de codi que produeix manifestos YAML per al desplegament del sistema d'IoT i un marc basat en el bucle MAPE-K per monitorar i adaptar el sistema d'IoT en temps d'execució.     Forum Session at the First International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC03)

    The First International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC) was held in Trento, December 15-18, 2003. The focus of the conference ---Service Oriented Computing (SOC)--- is the new emerging paradigm for distributed computing and e-business processing that has evolved from object-oriented and component computing to enable building agile networks of collaborating business applications distributed within and across organizational boundaries. Of the 181 papers submitted to the ICSOC conference, 10 were selected for the forum session which took place on December the 16th, 2003. The papers were chosen based on their technical quality, originality, relevance to SOC and for their nature of being best suited for a poster presentation or a demonstration. This technical report contains the 10 papers presented during the forum session at the ICSOC conference. In particular, the last two papers in the report ere submitted as industrial papers

    Globalization of business and volatility of financial markets has catapulted ‘cycle-time’ as a key indicator of operational efficiency in business processes. Systems automation holds the promise to augment the ability of business and healthcare networks to rapidly adapt to changes or respond, with minimal human intervention, under ideal conditions. Currently, system of systems (SOS) or organization of networks contribute minimally in making decisions because collaboration remains elusive due the challenges of complexity. Convergence and maturity of research offers the potential for a paradigm shift in interoperability. This paper explores some of these trends and related technologies. Irrespective of the characteristics of information systems, the development of various industry-contributed ontologies for knowledge and decision layers, may spur self-organizing SOS to increase the ability to sense and respond. Profitability from pervasive use of ontological frameworks and agent-based modeling may depend on the ability to use them through better enterprise and extraprise exchange
