    Exploring the Determinants of Digital Content Adoption By Academics: The Moderating Role of Environmental Concerns and Price Value

    The study investigates the underlying motives facilitating users’ continuance intention for digital content in academic settings. Extending the expectation confirmation model of IS continuance (ECM-ISC), the study proposes a conceptual model by incorporating personal and technological antecedents of users’ continuance intention for digital content. In addition, users’ environmental concerns and price value are considered as potential moderators in the relationship between their satisfaction and continuance intention for digital content. An online survey was used to collect data from 311 digital content users of a large public university in Saudi Arabia. Structural equation modeling was used to test the relationships in the conceptual model. The results obtained from SmartPLS 3.2 confirm that compatibility, convenience, self-efficacy, and facilitating conditions are the predictors of confirmation and usefulness of digital content. The confirmation of expectations and perceived usefulness result in greater satisfaction with the digital content, which in turn leads to users’ continuance intention. In addition, the article provides empirical evidence for the impact of environmental concerns on the satisfaction–continuance intention relationship, thus opening a novel research debate. The study is expected to offer new insights both for academicians and managers of digital content

    Relationships Among Dimensions of Information System Success and Benefits of Cloud

    Despite the many benefits offered by cloud computing’s design architecture, there are many fundamental performance challenges for IT managers to manage cloud infrastructures to meet business expectations effectively. Grounded in the information systems success model, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to evaluate the relationships among the perception of information quality, perception of system quality, perception of service quality, perception of system use, perception of user satisfaction, and net benefits of cloud computing services. The participants (n = 137) were IT cloud services managers in the United States, who completed the DeLone and McLean ISS authors’ validated survey instrument. The multiple regression finding were signification, F(5, 131) = 85.16, p \u3c .001, R2 = 0.76. In the final model, perception of information quality (β = .188, t = 2.844, p \u3c .05), perception of service quality (β = .178, t = 2.102, p \u3c .05), and perception of user satisfaction (β = .379, t = 5.024, p \u3c .001) were statistically significant; perception of system quality and perception of system use were not statistically significant. A recommendation is for IT managers to implement comprehensive customer evaluation of the cloud service(s) to meet customer expectations and afford satisfaction. The implications for positive social change include decision-makers in healthcare, human services, social services, and other critical service organizations better understand the vital predictors of attitude toward system use and user satisfaction of customer-facing cloud-based applications

    An ECM-ISC based Study on Learners’ Continuance Intention toward E-learning

    E-learning has been developing rapidly in recent years; however, as the student number and market scale are growing fast, there is also a growing concern over the issue of high dropout rates in e-learning. High dropout rate not only harms both education institutions and students, but also jeopardises the development of e-learning systems. Understanding the behavioural mechanism of students’ continuance learning in online programmes would be helpful for reducing the dropout rate. In order to explain students’ continuance intention toward e-learning, his study combines theories from the fields of information management and pedagogy. By adding two constructs, namely academic integration and social integration, from the theories of dropout as antecedent variables, an improved ECM-ISC model for e-learners’ continued learning intention was put forward. Results from structural equation modeling (SEM) demonstrate a stronger explanatory power of the new model. Based on the results from empirical analyses, corresponding suggestions are proposed in the end of this paper

    Staring down the lion: Uncertainty avoidance and operational risk culture in a tourism organisation

    The academic literature is not clear about how uncertainty influences operational risk decision-making. This study, therefore, investigated operational risk-based decision-making in the face of uncertainty in a large African safari tourism organisation by exploring individual and perceived team member approaches to uncertainty. Convenience sampling was used to identify 15 managers across three African countries in three domains of work: safari camp; regional office; and head office. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in which vignettes were incorporated, to which participants responded with their own reactions and decisions to the situations described, as well as with ways they thought other managers would react to these specific operational contexts. The data were transcribed and qualitatively analysed through thematic coding processes. The findings indicated that approaches to uncertainty were influenced by factors including situational context, the availability and communication of information, the level of operational experience, and participants’ roles. Contextual factors alongside diverse individual emotional and cognitive influences were shown to require prudent consideration by safari tourism operators in understanding employee behavioural reactions to uncertain situations. A preliminary model drawn from the findings suggests that, in practice, decision-making in the face of uncertainty is more complex than existing theoretical studies propose. Specifically, the diverse responses anticipated by staff in response to the vignettes could guide safari tourism management towards better handling of risk under uncertainty in remote locations

    Rural tourism hasbeen shown to benefit local communities from the economic perspective. Digitalmarketing allows marketing information to be transmitted directly to potentialvisitors without the need for an intermediary, in a low-cost but effective way.Rural tourism destinations in Sarawak now have an opportunity to benefit from the Sarawak state government’sinitiative, the Digital Sarawak Centre of Excellence, in terms of digitalcontent creation and website maintenance. However, the current level of adoption is zero to minimal in ruraltourism destinations. This study examines the barriers towards digital marketingadoption from the perspective of rural tourism providers. Fieldwork was performed at two sites,Ba’kelalan and Long Lamai, in July 2016 and February 2017 respectively. A total of 19 respondents were interviewedin-depth. The study revealed thattourism providers currently depended on word-of-mouth or direct contact forbookings, but were willing to adopt digital marketing with the assistance ofknowledgeable parties. However, certainphysical, logistical and social constraints may have a detrimental effect onthe community’s readiness level to entertain tourists on a larger scale and mayfurther impede the overall progress of digital marketing adoption, at both theindividual and destination levels
