This paper summarizes some of the trends in the use of multi‐agent technologies in economics. Multiple agent systems, fuzzy sets and neural networks are critical tools used to investigate the emerging economics research agenda related to data mining, dynamic markets stock selection and bank stress testing. This paper reviews the contributions of four such examples.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2015‐65515‐C4‐3‐

Quantitative Description of Pedestrian Dynamics with a Force based Model

This paper introduces a space-continuous force-based model for simulating pedestrian dynamics. The main interest of this work is the quantitative description of pedestrian movement through a bottleneck. Measurements of flow and density will be presented and compared with empirical data. The results of the proposed model show a good agreement with empirical data. Furthermore, we emphasize the importance of volume exclusion in force-based models.Comment: 4 pages, 7 figures, 2009 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Joint Conferences on Web Intelligence and Intelligent Agent Technologies (WI-IAT 2009), 15-18 September 2009, in Milano, Italy, 200

A Factory-based Approach to Support E-commerce Agent Fabrication

    Get PDF
With the development of Internet computing and software agent technologies, agent-based e-commerce is emerging. How to create agents for e-commerce applications has become an important issue along the way to success. We propose a factory-based approach to support agent fabrication in e-commerce and elaborate a design based on the SAFER (Secure Agent Fabrication, Evolution & Roaming) framework. The details of agent fabrication, modular agent structure, agent life cycle, as well as advantages of agent fabrication are presented. Product-brokering agent is employed as a practical agent type to demonstrate our design and Java-based implementation

Ontology acquisition and exchange of evolutionary product-brokering agents

    Get PDF
Agent-based electronic commerce (e-commerce) has been booming with the development of the Internet and agent technologies. However, little effort has been devoted to exploring the learning and evolving capabilities of software agents. This paper addresses issues of evolving software agents in e-commerce applications. An agent structure with evolution features is proposed with a focus on internal hierarchical knowledge. We argue that knowledge base of agents should be the cornerstone for their evolution capabilities, and agents can enhance their knowledge bases by exchanging knowledge with other agents. In this paper, product ontology is chosen as an instance of knowledge base. We propose a new approach to facilitate ontology exchange among e-commerce agents. The ontology exchange model and its formalities are elaborated. Product-brokering agents have been designed and implemented, which accomplish the ontology exchange process from request to integration

Architectural Approaches for Self-Healing Systems Based on Multi Agent Technologies

    Get PDF
Self-healing systems are able to adapt themselves at runtime time in response to changing environmental or operational circumstances, shifting user requirements, and unanticipated faults without human intervention. Conceptually, a self-managing system is composed of four key capabilities; Monitoring, performing Analysis, Planning and Executing the plan. The preferred way to enable repair in a self-healing system is to use externalized repair/adaptation architecture. Adaptability, dynamicity, awareness, observability, autonomy, robustness, distributability, mobility and traceability are requirements that an architecture style for self-healing system should satisfy. In this paper we discuss Multi agent based self-healing system has a characteristics that can satisfy mentioned requirement. We define associations between architecture style requirements for self-healing system and MAS characteristics. As a case study in a real project we have designed Automated Teller Machine (ATM) combination with biometric sensors based on multi-agent architecture.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i6.395

Posted by permission of the publisher. This article presents research towards the development of a virtual learning environment (VLE) inhabited by intelligent virtual agents (IVAs) and modeling a scenario of inter-cultural interactions. The ultimate aim of this VLE is to allow users to reflect upon and learn about intercultural communication and collaboration. Rather than predefining the interactions among the virtual agents and scripting the possible interactions afforded by this environment, we pursue a bottomup approach whereby inter-cultural communication emerges from interactions with and among autonomous agents and the user(s). The intelligent virtual agents that are inhabiting this environment are expected to be able to broaden their knowledge about the world and other agents, which may be of different cultural backgrounds, through interactions. This work is part of a collaborative effort within a European research project called eCIRCUS. Specifically, this article focuses on our continuing research concerned with emotional knowledge learning in autobiographic social agents.Peer reviewe

    Agent Technologies in MES Implementation

Visio tulevaisuuden tuotannosta on modulaariset ja tehokkaat tuotantojärjestelmät, joissa tuotteet ohjaavat omaa tuotantoprosessiaan. Näin on tarkoitus toteuttaa yksilöllisten tuotteiden tuotanto yhden tuotteen eräkoolla ilman että tarvitsee luopua massatuotannon taloudellisista eduista. Termi "Industry 4.0"kuvaa tätä suunniteltua neljättä teollista vallankumousta. Agenttipohjaisten järjestelmien toimivuus ympäristöissä joissa ei voida käyttää keskitettyä arkkitehtuuria päätöksen tekoon, tai toimivuus ympäristöissä joissa vaaditaan nopeaa vasteaikaa ja luotettavuutta, vastaavat osin näihin haasteisiin. Työssä tutkittiin MES-näkökulmasta hienokuormituksen toteutusta agenttipohjaisilla menetelmillä ja rakennettiin JADE-ohjelmistokehystä käyttäen tuotantosimulaatio kokeellista tutkimusta varten. Työssä toteutettiin kaksi erilaista tapaa tuotannon hienokuormitukseen agenttipohjaisesti. Ensimmäiseksi toteutettiin markkinamekanismiin perustuva hienokuormitustapa, jossa tilausagentit päättävät resurssiagenttien käytöstä saamiensa tarjouksien perusteella. Toiseksi toteutettiin geneettiseen algoritmiin pohjautuva tapa, jossa optimointiagentti aikatauluttaa ajettavat työt resurssiagenteille.Modular and efficient production systems where the products control their own production process is the vision for future. These systems are supposed to carry out the production of individual products with a batch size of one without having to abandon the benefits of mass production. The term "Industry 4.0" is for this planned fourth industrial revolution. Multi agent systems work in environments where a centralized architecture can not be used or make decisions in environments requiring fast responsiveness and reliability. These attributes align with Industry 4.0 requirements. In this thesis the implementation of agent-based scheduling is studied and an implementation is built using JADE-framework. The implementation is used to simulate production for research purposes. Two different algorithms for agent based detailed scheduling are implemented. A contract net based algorithm is crafted so that order agents and resource agents schedule production based on bidding and pricing mechanism. Secondly a genetic algorithm with an optimization agent is implemented to schedule tasks for the resource agents
