Personalized Micro-Service Recommendation System for Online News

In the era of artificial intelligence and high technology advance our life is dependent on them in every aspect. The dynamic environment forces us to plan our time with conscious and every minute is valuable. To help individuals and corporations see information that is only relevant to them, recommendation systems are in place. Popular platforms that such as Amazon, Ebay, Netflix, YouTube, make use of advanced recommendation systems to better serve the needed of their users. This research paper gives insight of building a microservice recommendation system for online news. Research in recommendation systems is mainly focused on improving user’s experience based mainly on personalization information, such as preferences, and searching history. To determine the initial preferences of a user an initial menu of topics/themes is provided for the user to choose from. In order to reflect as precise as possible the searching interests regarding news of user, all of his interactions are thoroughly recorded and in depth analyzed, based on advanced machine learning techniques, when adjusting the news topics, the user is interested for. Based on the aforementioned approach, a personalized recommendation system for online news has been developed. Existing techniques has been researched and evaluated to aid the decision about picking the best approach for the software to be implemented. Frameworks/technologies used for the development are Java 8, Spring boot, Spring MVC, Maven and MongoDB

The universal, collaborative and dynamic model of specialist and advanced nursing and midwifery practice: A way forward?

Aims and objectives To inform and guide the development of a future model of specialist and advanced nursing and midwifery practice. Background There is a sizable body of empirical literature supporting the unique contributions of specialist and advanced practice roles to health care. However, there is very little international evidence to inform the integration of a future model for advanced or specialist practice in the Irish healthcare system. Design A qualitative study was conducted to initiate this important area of inquiry. Methods Purposive sampling was used to generate a sample of informants (n = 15) for the interviews. Nurses and midwives working in specialist and advanced practice and participants from other areas such as legislative, regulatory, policy, medicine and education were included in the sampling frame. Results Arguments for a new model of specialist and advanced practice were voiced. A number of participants proposed that flexibility within specialist and advanced practitioner career pathways was essential. Otherwise, there existed the possibility of being directed into specialised “silos,” precluding movement to another area of integrated practice. Future specialist and advanced practice education programmes need to include topics such as the development of emotional and political intelligence. Conclusion The contribution of specialist and advanced practice roles to the health service includes providing rapid access to care, seamless patient flow across services, early discharge and lead coordinator of the patient\u27s care trajectory. There was a recommendation of moving towards a universal model to cultivate specialist and advanced nurse and midwife practitioners

Research Directions, Challenges and Issues in Opinion Mining

Rapid growth of Internet and availability of user reviews on the web for any product has provided a need for an effective system to analyze the web reviews. Such reviews are useful to some extent, promising both the customers and product manufacturers. For any popular product, the number of reviews can be in hundreds or even thousands. This creates difficulty for a customer to analyze them and make important decisions on whether to purchase the product or to not. Mining such product reviews or opinions is termed as opinion mining which is broadly classified into two main categories namely facts and opinions. Though there are several approaches for opinion mining, there remains a challenge to decide on the recommendation provided by the system. In this paper, we analyze the basics of opinion mining, challenges, pros & cons of past opinion mining systems and provide some directions for the future research work, focusing on the challenges and issues

Smart Book Recommender: A Semantic Recommendation Engine for Editorial Products

Academic publishers, such as Springer Nature, need to constantly make informed decisions about how and where to market their editorial products. In the field of Computer Science (CS), it is particularly critical to assess which books will be of interest to the attendees of a conference. Typically, these items are manually chosen by publishing editors, on the basis of their personal experience. To make this process both faster and more robust we have developed the Smart Book Recommender (SBR), a semantic application designed to support the Springer Nature editorial team in promoting their publications at CS venues. SBR takes as input the proceedings of a conference and suggests books, journals, and other conference proceedings which are likely to be relevant to the attendees of the conference in question. It does so by taking advantage of a semantic representation of topics, which builds on a very large ontology of Computer Science topics; characterizing Springer Nature books as distributions of semantic topics; and approaching the problem as one of semantic matching between such distributions of semantic topics

Dermatology residency selection criteria with an emphasis on program characteristics: a national program director survey.

Background. Dermatology residency programs are relatively diverse in their resident selection process. The authors investigated the importance of 25 dermatology residency selection criteria focusing on differences in program directors' (PDs') perception based on specific program demographics. Methods. This cross-sectional nationwide observational survey utilized a 41-item questionnaire that was developed by literature search, brainstorming sessions, and online expert reviews. The data were analyzed utilizing the reliability test, two-step clustering, and K-means methods as well as other methods. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in PDs' perception regarding the importance of the selection criteria based on program demographics. Results. Ninety-five out of 114 PDs (83.3%) responded to the survey. The top five criteria for dermatology residency selection were interview, letters of recommendation, United States Medical Licensing Examination Step I scores, medical school transcripts, and clinical rotations. The following criteria were preferentially ranked based on different program characteristics: "advanced degrees," "interest in academics," "reputation of undergraduate and medical school," "prior unsuccessful attempts to match," and "number of publications." Conclusions. Our survey provides up-to-date factual data on dermatology PDs' perception in this regard. Dermatology residency programs may find the reported data useful in further optimizing their residency selection process

Adaptation “in the Wild”: Ontology-Based Personalization of Open-Corpus Learning Material

Abstract. Teacher and students can use WWW as a limitless source of learning material for nearly any subject. Yet, such abundance of content comes with the problem of finding the right piece at the right time. Conventional adaptive educational systems cannot support personalized access to open-corpus learning material as they rely on manually constructed content models. This paper presents an approach to this problem that does not require intervention from a human expert. The approach has been implemented in an adaptive system that recommends students supplementary reading material and adaptively annotates it. The results of the evaluation experiment have demonstrated several significant effects of using the system on students ’ learning
