    Data Centric Storage Technologies: Analysis and Enhancement

    This paper surveys the most relevant works of Data Centric Storage (DCS) for Wireless Sensor Networks. DCS is a research area that covers data dissemination and storage inside an ad-hoc sensor network. In addition, we present a Quadratic Adaptive Replication (QAR) scheme for DCS, which is a more adaptive multi-replication DCS system and outperforms previous proposals in the literature by reducing the overall network traffic that has a direct impact on energy consumption. Finally, we discuss the open research challenges for DCS

    An adaptive directed query dissemination scheme for wireless sensor networks

    This paper describes a directed query dissemination scheme, DirQ that routes queries to the appropriate source nodes based on both constant and dynamic-valued attributes such as sensor types and sensor values. Unlike certain other query dissemination schemes, location information is not essential for the operation of DirQ. DirQ uses only locally available information in order to route queries accurately. Nodes running DirQ are able to adapt autonomously to changes in network topology due to certain cross-layer features that allow it to exchange information with the underlying MAC protocol. DirQ allows nodes to autonomously control the rate of sending update messages in order to keep the routing information updated. The rate of sending updates is dependent on both the number of queries injected into the network and the rate of variation of the measured physical parameter. Our results show that DirQ spends between 45% and 55% the cost of flooding

    Pheromone-based In-Network Processing for wireless sensor network monitoring systems

    Monitoring spatio-temporal continuous fields using wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has emerged as a novel solution. An efficient data-driven routing mechanism for sensor querying and information gathering in large-scale WSNs is a challenging problem. In particular, we consider the case of how to query the sensor network information with the minimum energy cost in scenarios where a small subset of sensor nodes has relevant readings. In order to deal with this problem, we propose a Pheromone-based In-Network Processing (PhINP) mechanism. The proposal takes advantages of both a pheromone-based iterative strategy to direct queries towards nodes with relevant information and query- and response-based in-network filtering to reduce the number of active nodes. Additionally, we apply reinforcement learning to improve the performance. The main contribution of this work is the proposal of a simple and efficient mechanism for information discovery and gathering. It can reduce the messages exchanged in the network, by allowing some error, in order to maximize the network lifetime. We demonstrate by extensive simulations that using PhINP mechanism the query dissemination cost can be reduced by approximately 60% over flooding, with an error below 1%, applying the same in-network filtering strategy.Fil: Riva, Guillermo Gaston.     MobiBone:An energy-efficient and adaptive network protocol to support short rendezvous between static and mobile wireless sensor nodes

    To ensure long network life-time, the duty-cycle of wireless sensor networks is often set to be low. This brings with itself the risk of either missing a sent packet or delaying the message delivery and dissemination depending on the duration of the duty-cycle and number of hops. This risk is increased in wireless sensor applications with hybrid architecture, in which a static ground wireless sensor network interacts with a network of mobile sensor nodes. Dynamicity and mobility of mobile nodes may lead to only a short rendezvous between them and the backbone network to exchange data. Additionally, such dynamicity generates complex and often random data traffic patterns. To support successful data delivery in case of short rendezvous between static and mobile wireless sensor nodes, we propose MobiBone, an energy-efficient and adaptive network protocol that utilizes data packet traffic to characterize the sleep schedule. Our simulation results show that compared with network protocols with fixed duty-cycles, MobiBone offers a good trade-off between energy consumption, latency, and detection rate of mobile nodes (which indicates awakens of the backbone network at crucial times of mobile node presence)

Melalui pernyataan visi oleh mantan Perdana Menteri Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamed memberikan indikasi bahawa kerajaan Malaysia komited untuk mencapai aspirasi agar Malaysia dikenali kerana integriti dan bukannya rasuah. Justeru, tujuan penulisan bab ini adalah untuk membincangkan rasuah dari beberapa sudut termasuk perbincangan dari sudut agama Islam, faktor-faktor berlakunya gejala rasuah, dan usaha-usaha yang dijalankan di Malaysia untuk membanteras gejala rasuah.     An Application-Tailored MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

    We describe a data management framework suitable for wireless sensor networks that can be used to adapt the performance of a medium access control (MAC) protocol depending on the query injected into the network. The framework has a\ud completely distributed architecture and only makes use of information available locally to capture information about network traffic patterns. It allows\ud nodes not servicing a query to enter a dormant mode which minimizes transmissions and yet maintain an updated view of the network. We then introduce an Adaptive, Information-centric and Lightweight MAC\ud (AI-LMAC) protocol that adapts its operation depending on the information presented by the framework. Our results demonstrate how transmissions are greatly reduced during the dormant mode. During the active mode, the MAC\ud protocol adjusts fairness to match the expected requirements of the query thus reducing latency. Thus such a data management framework allows the MAC to operate more efficiently by tailoring its needs to suit the requirements of the application

    Design and analysis of a beacon-less routing protocol for large volume content dissemination in vehicular ad hoc networks

For the highly dynamical vehicular network topology, beacon-less routing protocols have been proven to be efficient in achieving a balance between the system performance and the control overhead. However, to the authors’ best knowledge, the routing design for large volume content has not been well considered in the previous work, which will introduce new challenges, e.g., the enhanced connectivity requirement for a radio link. In this paper, a link Lifetime-aware Beacon-less Routing Protocol (LBRP) is designed for large volume content delivery in VANETs. Each vehicle makes the forwarding decision based on the message header information and its current state, including the speed and position information. A semi-Markov process analytical model is proposed to evaluate the expected delay in constructing one routing path for LBRP. Simulations show that the proposed LBRP scheme outperforms the traditional dissemination protocols in providing a low end-to-end delay. The analytical model is shown to exhibit a good match on the delay estimation with Monte Carlo simulations, as well

Underwater acoustic networks have recently emerged as a new area of research in wireless networking. Underwater networks are generally formed by acoustically connected ocean - bottom sensors, underwater gateways and a surfa ce station, which provides a link to an on - shore control center. In recent years, there has been substantial work on protocol design for these networks with most efforts focusing on MAC and network layer protocols. Low communication bandwidth, large propag ation delay, floating node mobility, and high error probability are the challenges of building mobile underwater wireless sensor networks (WSN) for aquatic applications. Underwater sensor networks (WSNs) are the enabling technology for wide range of appl ications like monitoring the strong influences and impact of climate regulation, nutrient production, oil retrieval and transportation, man y scientific, environmental, commercial, safety, and military applications. This paper first introduces the concept o f UWSN, operation, applications and then reviews some recent developments within this research area and proposes an adaptive push system for dissemination of data in underwater wireless sensor networks. The goal of this paper is to survey the existing net w ork technology and its applicability to underwater acoustic channels. In this paper we provide an overview of recent medium acces s control, routing, transport, and cross - layer networking protocols. It examines the main approaches and challenges in the desi gn and implementation of underwater wireless sensor networks. Finally, some suggestions and promising solutions are given for th ese issues
