Ecology, ethnobotany and ethnopharmacology of Argan tree (Argania spinosa)

Argania spinosa es una especie leñosa endémica del suroeste de Marruecos que ha jugado un papel fundamental, desde un punto de vista etnobotánico, en la economía local de los pueblos bereberes. El aceite de argán se extrae de manera artesanal de los frutos de esta planta siguiendo un modelo etnográfico de gran interés. Preliminary characterization of ssps (Seed Storage Proteins) in Argania spinosa L.

Protein extracts from mature seeds were prepared by using different solutions in order to assess the solubility of the major protein forms. SSPs of the 11S type were classified as albumins according to the further SDS-PAGE analysis of these extracts. The combination of both reducing- and non-reducing conditions for the SDS-PAGE analysis, together with immunoblot experiments allowed us to determine the presence of three precursor forms of these proteins (pro1, pro2 and pro3), which are composed of six individual peptides (p1 to p6) in different combinations.This work was funded by Spanish BFU2004-00601/BFI and BFU2008-00629 projects. Arganier

L’aganier qui pousse dans le sud-ouest du Maroc, particulièrement dans l’Anti-Atlas occidental, est la seule sapotacée qui dépasse vers le nord les régions tropicales. Il apparaît comme un élément d’une flore relique, témoin d’une ancienne extension de la végétation tropicale au sud-ouest du Maghreb. L’arganier atteint dans l’Anti-Atlas des altitudes de 1 500 et 1 700 mètres. Argania sideroxylon (ou Sideroxylum spinosum) se présente sous la forme d’arbustes ou d’arbres de 5 à 6 mètres de haut..
