Let E/Q be an elliptic curve and let p be an odd supersingular prime for E. In this article, we study the simplest case of Iwasawa theory for elliptic curves, namely when E(Q) is finite, III(E/Q) has no p-torsion and the Tamagawa factors for E are all prime to p. Under these hypotheses, we prove that E(Q_n) is finite and make precise statemens about the size and structure of the p-power part of III(E/Q_n). Here Q_n is the n-th step in the cyclotomic Z_p-extension of Q

    Gravitomagnetism and the Earth-Mercury range

We numerically work out the impact of the general relativistic Lense-Thirring effect on the Earth-Mercury range caused by the gravitomagnetic field of the rotating Sun. The peak-to peak nominal amplitude of the resulting time-varying signal amounts to 1.75 10^1 m over a temporal interval 2 yr. Future interplanetary laser ranging facilities should reach a cm-level in ranging to Mercury over comparable timescales; for example, the BepiColombo mission, to be launched in 2014, should reach a 4.5 - 10 cm level over 1 - 8 yr. We looked also at other Newtonian (solar quadrupole mass moment, ring of the minor asteroids, Ceres, Pallas, Vesta, Trans-Neptunian Objects) and post-Newtonian (gravitoelectric Schwarzschild solar field) dynamical effects on the Earth-Mercury range. They act as sources of systematic errors for the Lense-Thirring signal which, in turn, if not properly modeled, may bias the recovery of some key parameters of such other dynamical features of motion. Their nominal peak-to-peak amplitudes are as large as 4 10^5 m (Schwarzschild), 3 10^2 m (Sun's quadrupole), 8 10^1 m (Ceres, Pallas, Vesta), 4 m (ring of minor asteroids), 8 10^-1 m (Trans-Neptunian Objects). Their temporal patterns are different with respect to that of the gravitomagnetic signal.Comment: LaTex2e, 19 pages, 2 tables, 6 figures. Small typo in pag. 1406 of the published version fixe

Sporadic cloud-based mobile augmentation on the top of a virtualization layer: a case study of collaborative downloads in VANETs

    Get PDF
Current approaches to Cloud-based Mobile Augmentation (CMA) leverage (cloud-based) resources to meet the requirements of rich mobile applications, so that a terminal (the so-called application node or AppN) can borrow resources lent by a set of collaborator nodes (CNs). In the most sophisticated approaches proposed for vehicular scenarios, the collaborators are nearby vehicles that must remain together near the application node because the augmentation service is interrupted when they move apart. This leads to disruption in the execution of the applications and consequently impoverishes the mobile users’ experience. This paper describes a CMA approach that is able to restore the augmentation service transparently when AppNs and CNs separate. The functioning is illustrated by a NaaS model where the AppNs access web contents that are collaboratively downloaded by a set of CNs, exploiting both roadside units and opportunistic networking. The performance of the resulting approach has been evaluated via simulations, achieving promising results in terms of number of downloads, average download times, and network overheadMinisterio de Educación y Ciencia | Ref. Exploring the experiences of advanced practice psychiatric nurses : implications for developing a psychiatric nurse practitioner role

The provision of mental health services in Manitoba, Canada has been affected by a number of problems, including but not limited to: prolonged wait times for services, varying availability of psychiatrists, differing attitudes towards the recovery movement, and shifting scopes of practice among professional groups. These problems appear to have created inefficiencies in existing mental health services, such as the absence of services for vulnerable populations, and ambiguity concerning the best way to plan for services. Effective problem solving involves taking an inventory of what resources already exist or are easily obtained that could increase the efficiency and effectiveness of systems. In mental health services, one such exploration is to consider what further role advanced practice psychiatric nursing (APPN) might play in the delivery of mental health services in Manitoba. The research question in this study was, “What are the experiences of clinical advanced practice psychiatric nurses?”. Nine registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) participated in one to one interviews using van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenology. Four main themes emerged from the data analysis: practice affected by the role and availability of other health care providers, practice from a person-centered perspective, pushing the frontiers, and navigating institutional systems and structures. Exploring the experiences of APPNs illuminated ideas which can be applied to positively affect the delivery of mental health services in Manitoba, through the possible creation of a psychiatric nurse practitioner (PNP) role.Includes bibliographical references (pages 67-78).In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Psychiatric Nursing

Advanced Practice Nursing In The Faith Community Setting: A Case Study

    Get PDF
The purpose of this case study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of an Advanced Practice Nurse in providing spiritual and nursing care within a faith community setting. The study will describe the process of developing a Parish Nurse program using a Nurse Practitioner to offer wholistic health care to parishioners. It will also illustrate the collaborative process of developing a free health center within a faith based organization, using the Nurse Practitioner to manage the health center and deliver health care services. In order to demonstrate the need for parish nurse care, the case study used an anonymous survey to provide insight into the health status of the congregation, as well as to determine perceived needs of parishioners. Excerpts from the researcher\u27s journal and audio-taped interviews of parishioners and key leaders within the community was used to express congregants\u27 experiences of receiving parish nurse care, and to convey the need for a free community health center in the target population. A utilization review was conducted to demonstrate the profile of the patients who have accessed the services of the health center. The findings revealed three commons themes of parish nurse care; presence, spiritual support, and health care liaison. The study also revealed parishioners had an expedited referral process and improved patient provider relationships. Additional findings determined that the free health center was able to be operated by many of the members of the faith based organization, and was effective in managing chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Advanced Practice Nurses who are Parish Nurses have an opportunity to practice in a more wholistic manner, and offer advanced level care to parishioners and the community at large to improve health outcomes
