Master of Regional and Community PlanningDepartment of Landscape Architecture/Regional & Community PlanningBrent ChamberlainGrowing urban populations and the increasing prevalence of the millennial generation are profoundly changing personal travel behaviors and patterns. As a result, cities, planners, and developers must understand and act upon the shifting preferences and expectations of these public transit users in order to align costly public transit services with user needs in efficient ways. While public transit systems are becoming an increasingly vital part of urban life, few jurisdictions have considered the need to tailor these systems to millennials – those most likely to incorporate public transit into their daily lives. This paper examines the travel behaviors of University Students engaged in a forced travel intervention caused by a sudden relocation of their work site. The change in work location encouraged the use of a free public transit system as means of commuting. Longitudinal survey results, taken pre and post-intervention, indicate statistical differences between transit preferences and actual habits related to transit use and other modes of travel. Survey findings suggest that there is a statistically significant difference between the stated willingness and actual travel behaviors of public transit users and of drivers, and that modal shifts can assist in overcoming the attitude/behavior split related to personal travel among millennials

On the design of a secure data warehouse

The data warehouse is the combination of subject-oriented, authoritative, integrated databases designed to support the DSS (decision support). Data mining means to extract useful information which is previously unknown from information sources. The topic of data warehousing and data mining encompasses architectures, algorithms and tools for collecting selected data from multiple databases or other information sources into a single repository known as a data warehouse which is structured to facilitate query or analysis in supporting decision making; In this thesis, we will discuss the principles, architecture, and implementation of data warehouses. We will also discuss construction of data mining and some algorithms applied to data mining. We will do some research on the security of data warehouses

The Effect of Propellers and Nacelles on the Landing Speeds of Tractor Monoplanes

This paper reports wind-tunnel tests giving the lift coefficients of large-scale wing-nacelle combinations both with and without the propeller. The tests were made to show the effect of nacelles, and idling and stopped propellers on the landing speeds of tractor monoplanes. Four types of nacelles with various cowlings were used in numerous positions with respect to both a Clark Y and a thick airfoil. The effect of both the idling and stopped propeller on lift, and consequently on landing speed, was negligible. A nacelle with exposed engine cylinders when placed directly in front of an airfoil caused a slight reduction in lift, consequently an increase in landing speed, over the condition with the wing alone. With this exception no appreciable effect on landing speed was indicated for any of the other combinations

    Purchase intention of specialty coffee

The main aims of this study are: (1) to test whether the theory of planned behavior (TPB) is useful to explain the intention to purchase specialty co ee; (2) to analyze whether people more involved in social responsibility could manifest a di erent response from those not so interested in this matter concerning specialty co ee. The sample is composed of 489 specialty co ee consumers from Brazil. The statistical tool for testing the measurement and structural model was partial least squares. Then a multigroup analysis was performed to meet the second objective; the software SmartPLS was utilized. The main contributions of this study are that we can explain the intention to use specialty coffee in a sample of Brazilian consumers using the classical TPB model. Moreover, we demonstrate the moderating e ect of consumer perception of corporate social responsibility in this general model

Exploratory Investigation of Boundary-Layer Transition on a Hollow Cylinder at a Mach Number of 6.9

The Reynolds number for transition on the outside of a hollow cylinder with heat transfer from the boundary layer to the wall has been investigated at a Mach number of 6.9 in the Langley 11-inch hypersonic tunnel. The type of boundary layer was determined from impact-pressure surveys and optical viewing. From a correlation of results obtained from various sources at lower Mach numbers (in the range 2.0 to 4.5) and data from the present tests with variable Reynolds number per inch, leading-edge thickness and free-stream Reynolds number per inch appear to be important considerations in flat-plate transition results. At a given Mach number, it appears that the Reynolds number based on leading-edge thickness is an important parameter that must be considered in comparisons of flat-plate transition data from various installations
