Ensuring patients privacy in a cryptographic-based-electronic health records using bio-cryptography
Several recent works have proposed and implemented cryptography as a means to
preserve privacy and security of patients health data. Nevertheless, the
weakest point of electronic health record (EHR) systems that relied on these
cryptographic schemes is key management. Thus, this paper presents the
development of privacy and security system for cryptography-based-EHR by taking
advantage of the uniqueness of fingerprint and iris characteristic features to
secure cryptographic keys in a bio-cryptography framework. The results of the
system evaluation showed significant improvements in terms of time efficiency
of this approach to cryptographic-based-EHR. Both the fuzzy vault and fuzzy
commitment demonstrated false acceptance rate (FAR) of 0%, which reduces the
likelihood of imposters gaining successful access to the keys protecting
patients protected health information. This result also justifies the
feasibility of implementing fuzzy key binding scheme in real applications,
especially fuzzy vault which demonstrated a better performance during key
reconstruction
A Novel System for Confidential Medical Data Storage Using Chaskey Encryption and Blockchain Technology
Secure storage of confidential medical information is critical to healthcare organizations seeking to protect patient's privacy and comply with regulatory requirements. This paper presents a new scheme for secure storage of medical data using Chaskey cryptography and blockchain technology. The system uses Chaskey encryption to ensure integrity and confidentiality of medical data, blockchain technology to provide a scalable and decentralized storage solution. The system also uses Bflow segmentation and vertical segmentation technologies to enhance scalability and manage the stored data. In addition, the system uses smart contracts to enforce access control policies and other security measures. The description of the system detailing and provide an analysis of its security and performance characteristics. The resulting images were tested against a number of important metrics such as Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Mean Squared Error (MSE), bit error rate (BER), Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), Normalization Correlation (NC) and Structural Similarity Index (SSIM). Our results showing that the system provides a highly secure and scalable solution for storing confidential medical data, with potential applications in a wide range of healthcare settings
The weak password problem: chaos, criticality, and encrypted p-CAPTCHAs
Vulnerabilities related to weak passwords are a pressing global economic and
security issue. We report a novel, simple, and effective approach to address
the weak password problem. Building upon chaotic dynamics, criticality at phase
transitions, CAPTCHA recognition, and computational round-off errors we design
an algorithm that strengthens security of passwords. The core idea of our
method is to split a long and secure password into two components. The first
component is memorized by the user. The second component is transformed into a
CAPTCHA image and then protected using evolution of a two-dimensional dynamical
system close to a phase transition, in such a way that standard brute-force
attacks become ineffective. We expect our approach to have wide applications
for authentication and encryption technologies.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figer
Privacy and Confidentiality in an e-Commerce World: Data Mining, Data Warehousing, Matching and Disclosure Limitation
The growing expanse of e-commerce and the widespread availability of online
databases raise many fears regarding loss of privacy and many statistical
challenges. Even with encryption and other nominal forms of protection for
individual databases, we still need to protect against the violation of privacy
through linkages across multiple databases. These issues parallel those that
have arisen and received some attention in the context of homeland security.
Following the events of September 11, 2001, there has been heightened attention
in the United States and elsewhere to the use of multiple government and
private databases for the identification of possible perpetrators of future
attacks, as well as an unprecedented expansion of federal government data
mining activities, many involving databases containing personal information. We
present an overview of some proposals that have surfaced for the search of
multiple databases which supposedly do not compromise possible pledges of
confidentiality to the individuals whose data are included. We also explore
their link to the related literature on privacy-preserving data mining. In
particular, we focus on the matching problem across databases and the concept
of ``selective revelation'' and their confidentiality implications.Comment: Published at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/088342306000000240 in the
