    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to present an application of fuzzy logic to human reasoning about electronic commerce (e-commerce) transactions. This paper uncovers some of the hidden relationships between critical factors such as security, familiarity, design, and competitiveness. We analyze the effect of these factors on human decision process and how they affect the Business-to-Consumer (B2C) outcome when they are used collectively. This research provides a toolset for B2C vendors to access and evaluate a user\u27s transaction decision process, and also an assisted reasoning tool for the online user. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Evaluating e-commerce trust using fuzzy logic [article]

    Get PDF
Trust is widely recognized as an essential factor for the continual development of business to customer electronic commerce (B2C EC). Many trust models have been developed, however, most are subjective and do not take into account the vagueness and ambiguity of EC trust and the customers’ intuitions and experience when conducting online transactions. In this article, we develop a fuzzy trust model using fuzzy reasoning to evaluate EC trust. This trust model is based on the information customers expect to find on an EC Website and is shown to increase customers trust towards online merchants. We argue that fuzzy logic is suitable for trust evaluation as it takes into account the uncertainties within e-commerce data and like human relationships; it is often expressed by linguistics terms rather then numerical values. The evaluation of the proposed model will be illustrated using two case studies and a comparison with two evaluation models was conducted to emphasise the importance of usin fuzzy logic

Quantifying the numeric and linguistic magnitude of perceived risk in e-commerce interactions for RDSS

    Get PDF
In an e-commerce business interaction, the risk assessing agent by analyzing the possible level of perceived risk beforehand can make an informed decision of its future course of interaction with an agent. The perceived risk in the context of an e-commerce business interaction is a multidimensional construct which is the combination of its subcategories. In this paper we propose a methodology by which the risk assessing agent can ascertain the numeric and linguistic level of perceived risk in an interadion by combining its different subcategories

Measuring the Quality of Financial Electronic Payment System: Combined with Fuzzy AHP and Fuzzy TOPSIS

    Get PDF
The study aims to apply Fuzzy AHP in TOPSIS to discuss the key factors that foster the success of current third-party online payment platforms. This study organized the quality measurements into four categories and eleven sub-categories. The AHP in TOPSIS is applied to calculate the weighted averages of all categories and sub-categories to measure the quality of third-party online payment platforms. This study finds that “safety quality” is the most emphasized category, “system quality” is the second, “communication quality” is the third, and “service quality” is the least emphasized

Mathematical fuzzy logic (MFL) specifically targets many-valued logic and has significantly contributed to the logical foundations of fuzzy set theory (FST). It explores the computational and philosophical rationale behind the uncertainty due to imprecision in the backdrop of traditional mathematical logic. Since uncertainty is present in almost every real-world application, it is essential to develop novel approaches and tools for efficient processing. This book is the collection of the publications in the Special Issue “Mathematical Fuzzy Logic in the Emerging Fields of Engineering, Finance, and Computer Sciences”, which aims to cover theoretical and practical aspects of MFL and FST. Specifically, this book addresses several problems, such as:- Industrial optimization problems- Multi-criteria decision-making- Financial forecasting problems- Image processing- Educational data mining- Explainable artificial intelligence, etc

Applying FCM to Predict the Behaviour of Loyal Customers in the Mobile Telecommunications Industry

    Get PDF
Using empirical data from the Kuwaiti mobile telecommunications sector, this study models a fuzzy cognitive map (FCM) to investigate the reciprocal effects of customer loyalty and its antecedents in an emerging market context. This study investigates the effect of perceived service quality, perceived service value and brand equity on customer loyalty and the simultaneous analysis of the reverse causality of these variables. Data pertaining to 350 subscribers were analysed. According to the results, the model reaches the equilibrium when brand equity and customer loyalty are increased and reach an optimal level. Based on these findings, the authors provide implications for managers in the mobile telecom industry

This thesis investigated the problem of strategic manipulation of feedback attacks and proposed an approach that makes trust management systems sufficiently robust against feedback manipulation attacks. The new trust management system enables potential service consumers to determine the risk level of a service before committing to proceed with the transaction

A Method of Evaluating Trust and Reputation for Online Transaction

    Get PDF
The widespread use of the Internet and evaluater-based technologies has transformed the way business is conducted. Traditional offline businesses have increasingly become online, and there are new kinds of businesses that solely exist online. Unlike offline business environments, interpersonal trust is generally lacking in online business settings. Trading partners might feel insecure about the exchange of products and services over the net as they have limited information about each other's reliability or about the product quality. Considering that enough trust needs to be created to get the online buyer and seller to take actions, trust is a precious asset in online transactions. In order to address the issue of evaluating trust and reputation in online transaction environments, this paper makes use of a social network that graphically represents interpersonal relationships. This paper proposes computational models that systematically evaluate the quantitative level of trust and reputation based on the social network. A method that combines the evaluated trust and reputation levels is also proposed to increase the reliability of online transactions

Evaluation and Classification of Mobile Financial Services Sustainability Using Structural Equation Modeling and Multiple Criteria Decision-Making Methods

Despite the fast emergent of smartphones in day-to-day activity, the sustainable development of mobile financial services (MFS) remains low partially due to online consumer’s trust and perceived risk. This research broadens the trust and the perceived risk at the multi-dimensional for understanding and prioritizing alternatives of MFS decision. A combined methodology; structural equation modeling (SEM) with two multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods such as a technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) were applied for data analysis. The two steps SEM-TOPSIS techniques were adopted through a two-types survey on datasets consisting of 538 MFS users, and 74 both experienced MFS users and experts in Togo. The SEM is used for causal relationships and assigning weights for the TOPSIS input. TOPSIS was applied for providing MFS alternative classification, in which the results were compared with prior research using the SEM-AHP technique on the given population. The results via SEM revealed particularly strong support for the dispositional trust and perceived privacy risk. Trust has a negative relationship with perceived risk. Except for perceived time risk, all the antecedents of perceived risk and trust validated the proposed relationship. The findings of TOPSIS uncovered that mobile money transfer (MMT) remains the core application used, followed by mobile payment (MP) and mobile banking (MB) and, therefore, consistent with AHP. However, the TOPSIS technique is better suited to the problem of MFS selection for this study field. This research offers a novel and practical modeling and classification concept for researchers, companies’ managers, and experts in the areas of information technology. The implications, limitations, and future research are provided

Prioritizing critical factors to successful adoption of total hospital information system

    Get PDF
Although the benefits of adopting Hospital Information System (HIS) innovation are well known, only a few hospitals in Malaysia have actually adopted it. Surprisingly, there is scarcity of study specifically in the context of Malaysia related to Total Hospital Information System (THIS) adoption. Therefore, the aim of this study is to provide more insight regarding the THIS adoption in the context of Malaysia and as well to explore the potential factors that are connected to the hospitals’ adoption of THIS technology. To this end, this study developed a conceptual framework on the basis of Technology Organization Environment (TOE) for the adoption of THIS by Malaysian hospitals. Accordingly, a Fuzzy AHP model is developed to determine the weights of factors in the three categories for the THIS adoption. These factors are identified and compared by hospital experts and decision makers, who are fully familiar of THIS technology with also professional management and decision-making experience in the healthcare industry. Then fuzzy AHP is applied to compute the weights of incorporated factors in the THIS adoption model. This can result at fostering the uptake of HIS and facilitating its reluctant trend by improving the decision of hospitals towards THIS adoption
