    A Review on Web Application Testing and its Current Research Directions

    Testing is an important part of every software development process on which companies devote considerable time and effort. The burgeoning web applications and their proliferating economic significance in the society made the area of web application testing an area of acute importance. The web applications generally tend to take faster and quicker release cycles making their testing very challenging. The main issues in testing are cost efficiency and bug detection efficiency. Coverage-based   testing is the process of ensuring exercise of specific program elements. Coverage measurement helps determine the “thoroughness” of testing achieved. An avalanche of tools, techniques, frameworks came into existence to ascertain the quality of web applications.  A comparative study of some of the prominent tools, techniques and models for web application testing is presented. This work highlights the current research directions of some of the web application testing techniques

    Enhancing Reuse of Constraint Solutions to Improve Symbolic Execution

    Constraint solution reuse is an effective approach to save the time of constraint solving in symbolic execution. Most of the existing reuse approaches are based on syntactic or semantic equivalence of constraints; e.g. the Green framework is able to reuse constraints which have different representations but are semantically equivalent, through canonizing constraints into syntactically equivalent normal forms. However, syntactic/semantic equivalence is not a necessary condition for reuse--some constraints are not syntactically or semantically equivalent, but their solutions still have potential for reuse. Existing approaches are unable to recognize and reuse such constraints. In this paper, we present GreenTrie, an extension to the Green framework, which supports constraint reuse based on the logical implication relations among constraints. GreenTrie provides a component, called L-Trie, which stores constraints and solutions into tries, indexed by an implication partial order graph of constraints. L-Trie is able to carry out logical reduction and logical subset and superset querying for given constraints, to check for reuse of previously solved constraints. We report the results of an experimental assessment of GreenTrie against the original Green framework, which shows that our extension achieves better reuse of constraint solving result and saves significant symbolic execution time.Comment: this paper has been submitted to conference ISSTA 201

Such process requires to fetch data, process it, then store again, and such process tends to be done outside the DB, in often complex data-flows. Recently, database service providers have decided to integrate “R-as-a-Service” in their DB solutions. The analytics engine is called directly from the SQL query tree, and results are returned as part of the same query. Here we show a first taste of such technology by testing the portability of our ALOJA-ML analytics framework, coded in R, to Microsoft SQL-Server 2016, one of the SQL+R solutions released recently. In this work we discuss some data-flow schemes for porting a local DB + analytics engine architecture towards Big Data, focusing specially on the new DB Integrated Analytics approach, and commenting the first experiences in usability and performance obtained from such new services and capabilities.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

    Efficient Service for Next Generation Network Slicing Architecture and Mobile Traffic Analysis Using Machine Learning Technique

    The tremendous growth of mobile devices, IOT devices, applications and many other services have placed high demand on mobile and wireless network infrastructures. Much research and development of 5G mobile networks have found the way to support the huge volume of traffic, extracting of fine-gained analytics and agile management of mobile network elements, so that it can maximize the user experience. It is very challenging to accomplish the tasks as mobile networks increase the complexity, due to increases in the high volume of data penetration, devices, and applications. One of the solutions, advance machine learning techniques, can help to mitigate the large number of data and algorithm driven applications. This work mainly focus on extensive analysis of mobile traffic for improving the performance, key performance indicators and quality of service from the operations perspective. The work includes the collection of datasets and log files using different kind of tools in different network layers and implementing the machine learning techniques to analyze the datasets to predict mobile traffic activity. A wide range of algorithms were implemented to compare the analysis in order to identify the highest performance. Moreover, this thesis also discusses about network slicing architecture its use cases and how to efficiently use network slicing to meet distinct demands

    Automating Regression Test Selection for Web Services

    As Web services grow in maturity and use, so do the methods which are being used to test and maintain them. Regression Testing is a major component of most major testing systems but has only begun to be applied to Web services. The majority of the tools and techniques applying regression test to Web services are focused on test-case generation, thus ignoring the potential savings of regression test selection. Regression test selection optimizes the regression testing process by selecting a subset of all tests, while still maintaining some level of confidence about the system performing no worse than the unmodified system. A safe regression test selection technique implies that after selection, the level of confidence is as high as it would be if no tests were removed. Since safe regression test selection techniques generally involve code-based (white-box) testing, they cannot be directly applied to Web services due to their loosely-coupled, standards-based, and distributed nature. A framework which automates both the regression test selection and regression testing processes for Web services in a decentralized, end-to-end manner is proposed. As part of this approach, special consideration is given to the concurrency issues which may occur in an autonomous and decentralized system. The resulting synchronization method will be presented along with a set of algorithms which manage the regression testing and regression test selection processes throughout the system. A set of empirical results demonstrate the feasibility and benefit of the approach

The definitive version is available from the link below.In the past five years there has been a dramatic increase in work on Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE), an approach to Software Engineering (SE) in which Search-Based Optimization (SBO) algorithms are used to address problems in SE. SBSE has been applied to problems throughout the SE lifecycle, from requirements and project planning to maintenance and reengineering. The approach is attractive because it offers a suite of adaptive automated and semiautomated solutions in situations typified by large complex problem spaces with multiple competing and conflicting objectives. This article provides a review and classification of literature on SBSE. The work identifies research trends and relationships between the techniques applied and the applications to which they have been applied and highlights gaps in the literature and avenues for further research.EPSRC and E
