    Intelligent Integrated Management for Telecommunication Networks

    As the size of communication networks keeps on growing, faster connections, cooperating technologies and the divergence of equipment and data communications, the management of the resulting networks gets additional important and time-critical. More advanced tools are needed to support this activity. In this article we describe the design and implementation of a management platform using Artificial Intelligent reasoning technique. For this goal we make use of an expert system. This study focuses on an intelligent framework and a language for formalizing knowledge management descriptions and combining them with existing OSI management model. We propose a new paradigm where the intelligent network management is integrated into the conceptual repository of management information called Managed Information Base (MIB). This paper outlines the development of an expert system prototype based in our propose GDMO+ standard and describes the most important facets, advantages and drawbacks that were found after prototyping our proposal

    A high abstraction level approach for detecting feature interactions between telecommunication services

    AbstractWhen several telecommunication services are running at the same time, undesirable behaviors may arise, which are commonly called feature interactions. Several methods have been developed for detecting and resolving feature interactions. However, most of these methods are based on detailed models of services, which make them suffer from state space explosion. Moreover, different telecommunication operators cannot cooperate to manage feature interactions by exchanging detailed service models because this violates the confidentiality principle. Our work is a part of the few attempts to develop feature interaction detection methods targeting to avoid or reduce significantly state space explosion. In order to reach this objective, we first develop a so called Cause–Restrict language to model subscribers of telecommunication services at a very high abstraction level. A Cause–Restrict model of a subscriber provides information such as: what is the cause of what, and what restricts (or forbids) what, and specifies coarsely the frequency of each operation “cause” or “restrict” by “always” or “sometimes”. Then, we develop a method that detects feature interactions between telecommunication services modeled in the Cause–Restrict language. We demonstrate the applicability of our approach by modeling several services and detecting several feature interactions between them. New feature interactions have been detected by our approach

    Service composition based on SIP peer-to-peer networks

    Today the telecommunication market is faced with the situation that customers are requesting for new telecommunication services, especially value added services. The concept of Next Generation Networks (NGN) seems to be a solution for this, so this concept finds its way into the telecommunication area. These customer expectations have emerged in the context of NGN and the associated migration of the telecommunication networks from traditional circuit-switched towards packet-switched networks. One fundamental aspect of the NGN concept is to outsource the intelligence of services from the switching plane onto separated Service Delivery Platforms using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) to provide the required signalling functionality. Caused by this migration process towards NGN SIP has appeared as the major signalling protocol for IP (Internet Protocol) based NGN. This will lead in contrast to ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) and IN (Intelligent Network) to significantly lower dependences among the network and services and enables to implement new services much easier and faster. In addition, further concepts from the IT (Information Technology) namely SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) have largely influenced the telecommunication sector forced by amalgamation of IT and telecommunications. The benefit of applying SOA in telecommunication services is the acceleration of service creation and delivery. Main features of the SOA are that services are reusable, discoverable combinable and independently accessible from any location. Integration of those features offers a broader flexibility and efficiency for varying demands on services. This thesis proposes a novel framework for service provisioning and composition in SIP-based peer-to-peer networks applying the principles of SOA. One key contribution of the framework is the approach to enable the provisioning and composition of services which is performed by applying SIP. Based on this, the framework provides a flexible and fast way to request the creation for composite services. Furthermore the framework enables to request and combine multimodal value-added services, which means that they are no longer limited regarding media types such as audio, video and text.     Feature interaction is nothing new and not limited to computer science. The problem of undesirable feature interaction (feature interaction problem) has already been investigated in the telecommunication domain. Our goal is the investigation of feature interaction in componet-based systems beyond telecommunication.
