    Robustness study of a flexible zero-energy house

    The U.S. Department of Energy launched the 5th Solar-Decathlon-competition, defying student teams from all over the world to conceive a house powered exclusively by the sun. Team Belgium, of Ghent University, conceived the E-Cube, a modular and flexible house, that could be adapted depending on the inhabitants, the building site and the climate. This paper focuses on that last aspect: the robustness and flexibility of the energy concept and the design, depending on the climate it is built in. Different climates are selected for the analyses, reaching from climates with extreme winters (Canada: Saskatoon) to arid climates (US: Las Vegas), through milder climates (Belgium: Ukkel and US: Washington D.C.). To cover both locally (Belgian) and internationally used energy-assessment procedures both the Flemish EPB-software as well as the PHPP-software are used. Furthermore, dynamic simulations in Trnsys are carried out to obtain more detailed and accurate feedback on the buildings’ dynamic thermal response. Through simulations with these three calculation methods, energy robustness is tested and alternative solutions for the building envelope are proposed, adapting the building to its boundary conditions.     Is your library known as “the” place for students to work on your campus? Do your student employees get excited about “famous” annual training events in your department? Do your former student employees return years later to say hello because the library felt like their second home during college? Student employees are full of potential to become actively engaged participants in library operations and delivery of quality service. However, many librarians and library staff members struggle to motivate their student employees and help them see their employment as a highly valuable, formative work experience. The authors share some creative (and tested) ideas to improve and assess the student employee training experience. Standards are needed to enable cooperation while promoting competition. Within the framework of a standard, the companies involved in the standardization process contribute and agree on appropriate technical specifications to ensure diversity and compatibility, and facilitate worldwide commercial deployment and evolution. Those parts of the system that can create competitive advantages are intentionally left open in the specifications. Such specifications are extensive, complex, and minimalistic. This makes telecommunication standards education a difficult endeavor, but it is much demanded by industry and governments to spur economic growth. This article describes a methodology for teaching wireless communications standards. We define our methodology around six learning stages that assimilate the standardization process and identify key learning objectives for each. Enabled by software-defined radio technology, we describe a practical learning environment that facilitates developing many of the needed technical and soft skills without the inherent difficulty and cost associated with radio frequency components and regulation. Using only open source software and commercial of-the-shelf computers, this environment is portable and can easily be recreated at other educational institutions and adapted to their educational needs and constraints. The system that coming up from this research very helpful for human resource management especialy on developing organizational system for educational level. This research using qualitative method which the collective data method using interview, self-conduct observation, life history, personal experience, documents and important note deeply for certain period of time to get further information about scouting achievement system from it potentials and obstacles. This research object are schools which have achievement in scouting there are SMA N 1 Sukoharjo and SMA N 1 Wonogiri. Come after the informant for this research are scout master, scout leader, and alumni who still active for helping on scouting activities on each school. The result indicates gradually a scouting achievement system must have a good organization system and training and education system. Organization system component are recruitment and member positioning, financial and facilities management, followed by having a good relationship within scouting member in or out school. Training and education system component are routine training, leadership, competition preparation exercise followed by team competition development
