    Evaluation of Exposure to BTEX in Hookah Smokers and Carcinogenic and Non- Carcinogenic Risk Assessment

    To investigate the demographic characteristics, concentration of Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl benzene and Xylenes (BTEX) in output smoke and health risk assessment in hookah smokers in hookah cafĂ©s, Iran. We checked hookah cafĂ©s in the different parts of Hamadan city and analyzed location and social station of each cafĂ©s in 2016. Finally, 20 cafĂ©s selected and five samples on each cafĂ©s (total of 100 samples). BTEX compounds were sampled in output smoke from mouth smokers using charcoal and analyzed by GC- MS according to NIOSH1501 method. The quantitative risk assessment of exposure to BTEX as recommended by the United State Environmental Protection Agency method was used. The smokers' demographic characteristics collected using a self-designed questionnaire. The average concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, o, m-Xylene and p- Xylene were 6.45, 7.02, 10.07, 7.21 and 8.36 mg/m3, respectively. The mean cancer risk for benzene was estimated as 529 × 10-5 and mean non-carcinogenic risks for toluene, ethyl benzene and o, m-Xylene and p–Xylene (TEXs) were 17.57, 5.03, 24.03 and 27.88, respectively. Hookah smoking is prevalent among youths and smokers are exposed to benzene level higher than the threshold limit value recommended by ACGIH. Cancer risk for benzene and non-carcinogenic risk for TEXs were much higher than recommended limits. Thus, in order to prevent diseases stemming from hookah smoking, urgent and increased notification about its adverse health effects and intensified regulatory laws are needed to decrease hookah smoking in hookah cafĂ©s

This family consists of more than 170 species of trees and bushes of pantropical distribution. Due to their potent bioactivity against chronic illness, the quassinoids are regularly explored for their biological activities. This has resulted in the buildup of scientific literature. Therefore, here we analyzed the global literature, indexed in SCI-E journals up to 2018 on quassinoids which is a triterpenoid natural group of compounds. There were a total of 793 publications with 16283 citations and 10724 citations without self-citation having an h-index of 56 and average citation per item of 20.53. We have also analyzed the year wise publication growth, most prolific authors, organizations and countries, most prolific journals, frequencies of keywords, and relevant terms of title and abstract. The authorship pattern and collaboration network between countries, authors, and languages of publication have also been analyzed. Overall, this compilation will help as an essential resource to refer to the detailed evidence regarding the quassinoids research

    A bibliometric analysis of global research on genome sequencing from 1991 to 2010 Yidan

    This study was carried out to evaluate the global scientific production of genome sequencing research to assess the characteristics of the research performances and the research tendencies. Data were obtained from Science Citation Index Expanded database during 1991-2010. Conventional methods including document types, journals, categories, countries and institutions were used to analyze publication output to reveal the global performance. The development of genome sequencing research during last 20 years was described by synthetically analyzing the distribution of words in article title, author keywords, and KeyWords Plus in different periods. The results show that disease and protein related researches were the leading research focuses, and comparative genomics and evolution related research had strong potential in the near future.Key words: Genome sequencing, research trend, scientometrics, science citation index expanded (SCI-Expanded), word cluster analysis, keywords

    A Discipline-Spanning Overview of Action Research and Its Implications for Technology and Innovation Management

    The iterative and learning character of action research is particularly beneficial for exploring complex socio-technical problems in technology and innovation management (TIM). In this respect, action research allows both rigorous and relevant research due to parallel solving of real-world problems, capability building, and gaining scientific insights. However, the use of action research within TIM research is surprisingly limited. Action research also is not a homogeneous research methodology since each research discipline, such as education and organizational science, has its own action research streams, which are often only loosely linked. A systematic overview of those action research traditions and specific best practices is still missing, which complicates a systematic transfer and use of action research in TIM. This article addresses this essential gap by building a cross-disciplinary overview of action research streams based on a bibliometric analysis using Scopus. The analysis includes relevant disciplines with action research traditions, their development over time, and the most influential journals, authors, institutions, and countries. Along with this discipline-spanning analysis, the article investigates particular TIM benefits and challenges of action research. The two key contributions of this article are: 1) a discipline-spanning overview of action research and its evolution and 2) an analysis of its implications for TIM research. These contributions build the basis for strengthening the use of action research in TIM. In the medium-term, action research has the capacity to link academia and industry more closely and, in doing so, assists important endeavours of translating more of our research outcomes into practice

    Panoramic Mapping of Urban Social Sustainability: A 35-Year Bibliometric and Visualization Analysis

    In recent years, ensuring social sustainability has been a global concern for sustainable urban development in both the academic arena and sustainability science. Many studies have been conducted in this area, but a bibliometric analysis has not yet been done previously. This study identified research streams and research hotspots in the urban social sustainability field based on a bibliometric analysis from 1985 to 2020, involving 1,623 documents from the Web of Science database. We used two software packages, Bibliometrix (Biblioshiny) and VOSviewer, for performance and science mapping analysis. The result showed that this research field is growing fast in multiple disciplines. In the publication trend analysis, we found significant changes since 2015. Analysis of leading countries and institutions revealed that developed countries are performing better than developing countries in producing publications on urban social sustainability. In the content analysis, we selected 214 documents and found that the survey method was the most used. Additionally, we found that 13.08 percent of papers (28 out of 214) used as many as 21 different theories, where ‘stakeholder theory,’ ‘planning theory,’ ‘theory of urbanism as a way of life,’ and ‘theory of good city form’ were significantly used. The findings of this study can assist researchers and practitioners by providing valuable insights into the research area of urban social sustainability

    A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications on Pluripotent Stem Cell Research

    Objective: Human pluripotent stem cells are self-renewing cells with the ability to differentiate into a variety of cells and are viewed to have great potential in the field of regenerative medicine. Research in pluripotent stem cells holds great promise for patient specific therapy in various diseases. In this study, pluripotent stem cell articles published from 1991 to 2012 were screened and retrieved from Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED). Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, the publication trend, citation trends for top articles, distributions of journals and Web of Science categories were analyzed. Five bibliometric indicators including total articles, independent articles, collaborative articles, first author articles, and corresponding author articles were applied to compare publications between countries and institutions. Results: The impact of top articles changed from year to year. Top cited articles in previous publication years were not the same as recent years. "Induced pluripotent stem cell (s)" and "embryonic stem cell (s)" were the most used author keywords in pluripotent stem cell research. In addition, the winner of the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 2012, Prof. Shinya Yamanaka, published four of the top ten most frequently cited articles. Conclusion: The comprehensive analysis of highly cited articles in the stem cell field could identify milestones and important contributors, giving a historic perspective on scientific progress
