A review of vision-based gait recognition methods for human identification

Human identification by gait has created a great deal of interest in computer vision community due to its advantage of inconspicuous recognition at a relatively far distance. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of recent developments on gait recognition approaches. The survey emphasizes on three major issues involved in a general gait recognition system, namely gait image representation, feature dimensionality reduction and gait classification. Also, a review of the available public gait datasets is presented. The concluding discussions outline a number of research challenges and provide promising future directions for the field

Human Gait as the recognition object is the famous biometrics system recently. Many researchers had focused this subject to consider for a new recognition system. One of the important advantage in this recognition compare to other is it does not require observed subject’s attention and cooperation. There are many human gait datasets created within the last 10 years. Some databases that are widely used are University Of South Florida (USF) Gait Dataset, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) Gait Dataset, and Southampton University (SOTON) Gait Dataset. This paper will analyze the CASIA Gait Dataset in order to see their characteristics. There are 2 pre-processing subsystems; model based and model free approach. We will use 2D Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). We select Haar wavelets to reduce and extract the feature

In recent years, many researchers have studied the HAR (Human Activity Recognition) system. HAR using smart home sensor is based on computing in smart environment, and intelligent surveillance system conducts intensive research on peripheral support life. The previous system studied in some of the activities is a fixed motion and the methodology is less accurate. In this paper, vision-based studies using thermal imaging cameras improve the accuracy of motion recognition in intelligent surveillance systems. We use one of the deep learning architectures widely used in image recognition systems called Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). Therefore, we use CNN and thermal cameras to provide accuracy and many features through the proposed method

Biometric recognition systems have been attracted numerous researchers since they attempt to overcome the problems and factors weakening these systems including problems of obtaining images indeed not appearing the resolution or the object completely. In this work, the object movement reliance was considered to distinguish the human through his/her gait. Some losing features probably weaken the system’s capability in recognizing the people, hence, we propose using all data recorded by the Kinect sensor with no employing the feature extraction methods based on the literature. In these studies, coordinates of 20 points are recorded for each person in various genders and ages, walking with various directions and speeds, creating 8404 constraints. Moreover, pre-processing methods are utilized to measure its influences on the system efficiency through testing on six types of classifiers. Within the proposed approach, a noteworthy recognition rate was obtained reaching 91% without examining the descriptors

Inertial Sensor Estimation of Initial and Terminal Contact during In-Field Running.

Given the popularity of running-based sports and the rapid development of Micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), portable wireless sensors can provide in-field monitoring and analysis of running gait parameters during exercise. This paper proposed an intelligent analysis system from wireless micro-Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) data to estimate contact time (CT) and flight time (FT) during running based on gyroscope and accelerometer sensors in a single location (ankle). Furthermore, a pre-processing system that detected the running period was introduced to analyse and enhance CT and FT detection accuracy and reduce noise. Results showed pre-processing successfully detected the designated running periods to remove noise of non-running periods. Furthermore, accelerometer and gyroscope algorithms showed good consistency within 95% confidence interval, and average absolute error of 31.53 ms and 24.77 ms, respectively. In turn, the combined system obtained a consistency of 84-100% agreement within tolerance values of 50 ms and 30 ms, respectively. Interestingly, both accuracy and consistency showed a decreasing trend as speed increased (36% at high-speed fore-foot strike). Successful CT and FT detection and output validation with consistency checking algorithms make in-field measurement of running gait possible using ankle-worn IMU sensors. Accordingly, accurate IMU-based gait analysis from gyroscope and accelerometer information can inform future research on in-field gait analysis

There are a lot of problems faced in parking lots where the safety of women is insecure due to dark and quiet environment. Security personnel requires high cost and they tend to make errors or overlooked. Thus, a gender identification system was proposed to solve the matter. Human gait as a method of human recognition is not new in biometrics systems nowadays. In this project human gait is used for gender identification because of its advantages in this particular application, Gender Identification System in Women-only Parking Lots
