    A QoS-Aware Scheduling Algorithm for High-Speed Railway Communication System

    With the rapid development of high-speed railway (HSR), how to provide the passengers with multimedia services has attracted increasing attention. A key issue is to develop an effective scheduling algorithm for multiple services with different quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this paper, we investigate the downlink service scheduling problem in HSR network taking account of end-to-end deadline constraints and successfully packet delivery ratio requirements. Firstly, by exploiting the deterministic high-speed train trajectory, we present a time-distance mapping in order to obtain the highly dynamic link capacity effectively. Next, a novel service model is developed for deadline constrained services with delivery ratio requirements, which enables us to turn the delivery ratio requirement into a single queue stability problem. Based on the Lyapunov drift, the optimal scheduling problem is formulated and the corresponding scheduling service algorithm is proposed by stochastic network optimization approach.     QoS-aware User Association and Transmission Scheduling for Millimeter-Wave Train-ground Communications

    With the development of wireless communication, people have put forward higher requirements for train-ground communications in the high-speed railway (HSR) scenarios. With the help of mobile relays (MRs) installed on the roof of the train, the application of Millimeter-Wave (mm-wave) communication which has rich spectrum resources to the train-ground communication system can realize high data rate, so as to meet users' increasing demand for broad-band multimedia access. Also, full-duplex (FD) technology can theoretically double the spectral efficiency. In this paper, we formulate the user association and transmission scheduling problem in the mm-wave train-ground communication system with MR operating in the FD mode as a nonlinear programming problem. In order to maximize the system throughput and the number of users meeting quality of service (QoS) requirements, we propose an algorithm based on coalition game to solve the challenging NP-hard problem, and also prove the convergence and Nash-stable structure of the proposed algorithm. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that the proposed coalition game based algorithm can effectively improve the system throughput and meet the QoS requirements of as many users as possible, so that the communication system has a certain QoS awareness.Comment: 14 page

    RIS-assisted Scheduling for High-Speed Railway Secure Communications

    With the rapid development of high-speed railway systems and railway wireless communication, the application of ultra-wideband millimeter wave band is an inevitable trend. However, the millimeter wave channel has large propagation loss and is easy to be blocked. Moreover, there are many problems such as eavesdropping between the base station (BS) and the train. As an emerging technology, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) can achieve the effect of passive beamforming by controlling the propagation of the incident electromagnetic wave in the desired direction.We propose a RIS-assisted scheduling scheme for scheduling interrupted transmission and improving quality of service (QoS).In the propsed scheme, an RIS is deployed between the BS and multiple mobile relays (MRs). By jointly optimizing the beamforming vector and the discrete phase shift of the RIS, the constructive interference between direct link signals and indirect link signals can be achieved, and the channel capacity of eavesdroppers is guaranteed to be within a controllable range. Finally, the purpose of maximizing the number of successfully scheduled tasks and satisfying their QoS requirements can be practically realized. Extensive simulations demonstrate that the proposed scheme has superior performance regarding the number of completed tasks and the system secrecy capacity over four baseline schemes in literature.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, to appear in IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technolog

    The cross layer RMPA handover: a reliable mobility pattern aware handover strategy for broadband wireless communication in a high-speed railway domain

    Enhancing the handover process in broadband wireless communication deployment has traditionally motivated many research initiatives. In a high-speed railway domain, the challenge is even greater. Owing to the long distances covered, the mobile node gets involved in a compulsory sequence of handover processes. Consequently, poor performance during the execution of these handover processes significantly degrades the global end-to-end performance. This article proposes a new handover strategy for the railway domain: the RMPA handover, a Reliable Mobility Pattern Aware IEEE 802.16 handover strategy "customized" for a high-speed mobility scenario. The stringent high mobility feature is balanced with three other positive features in a high-speed context: mobility pattern awareness, different sources for location discovery techniques, and a previously known traffic data profile. To the best of the authors' knowledge, there is no IEEE 802.16 handover scheme that simultaneously covers the optimization of the handover process itself and the efficient timing of the handover process. Our strategy covers both areas of research while providing a cost-effective and standards-based solution. To schedule the handover process efficiently, the RMPA strategy makes use of a context aware handover policy; that is, a handover policy based on the mobile node mobility pattern, the time required to perform the handover, the neighboring network conditions, the data traffic profile, the received power signal, and current location and speed information of the train. Our proposal merges all these variables in a cross layer interaction in the handover policy engine. It also enhances the handover process itself by establishing the values for the set of handover configuration parameters and mechanisms of the handover process. RMPA is a cost-effective strategy because compatibility with standards-based equipment is guaranteed. The major contributions of the RMPA handover are in areas that have been left open to the handover designer's discretion. Our simulation analysis validates the RMPA handover decision rules and design choices. Our results supporting a high-demand video application in the uplink stream show a significant improvement in the end-to-end quality of service parameters, including end-to-end delay (22%) and jitter (80%), when compared with a policy based on signal-to-noise-ratio information.The research described in this article was undertaken at the Training/Education and Research Unit UFI11/16 funded by the UPV/EHU

La calidad de servicio de estas aplicaciones está ligada a múltiples requisitos no funcionales, como el tiempo de respuesta o la eficiencia energética, que dependen en gran medida del despliegue de los componentes de la aplicación en los nodos de la infraestructura. En este contexto, se necesitan nuevas arquitecturas de orquestación para gestionar tanto las infraestructuras complejas como los requisitos no funcionales de las aplicaciones.Para hacer frente a estos retos se propone una novedosa arquitectura de orquestación centrada en las aplicaciones (ACOA : Application-Centric Orchestration Architecture) orientada al continuo edge-cloud. Esta arquitectura aprovecha el uso de múltiples planificadores para mejorar el rendimiento de la orquestación y proporcionar un algoritmo de planificación personalizado para cada aplicación. Propone un modelo de infraestructura para la caracterización de los nodos y la red, un modelo de carga de trabajo para la definición de las aplicaciones, y un conjunto de componentes de sistema interrelacionados necesarios para gestionar las tareas de orquestación.
