A Wideband Injection-Locking Scheme and Quadrature Phase Generation in 65-nm CMOS
A novel technique for wideband injection locking in an LC oscillator is proposed. Phased-lock-loop and injection-locking elements are combined symbiotically to achieve wide locking range while retaining the simplicity of the latter. This method does not require a phase frequency detector or a loop filter to achieve phase lock. A mathematical analysis of the system is presented and the expression for new locking range is derived. A locking range of 13.4-17.2 GHz and an average jitter tracking bandwidth of up to 400 MHz were measured in a high- Q LC oscillator. This architecture is used to generate quadrature phases from a single clock without any frequency division. It also provides high-frequency jitter filtering while retaining the low-frequency correlated jitter essential for forwarded clock receivers
A Noise-Shifting Differential Colpitts VCO
A novel noise-shifting differential Colpitts VCO is presented. It uses current switching to lower phase noise by cyclostationary noise alignment and improve the start-up condition. A design strategy is also devised to enhance the phase noise performance of quadrature coupled oscillators. Two integrated VCOs are presented as design examples
A New Technique for the Design of Multi-Phase Voltage Controlled Oscillators
© 2017 World Scientific Publishing Company. In this work, a novel circuit structure for second-harmonic multi-phase voltage controlled oscillator (MVCO) is presented. The proposed MVCO is composed of (Formula presented.) ((Formula presented.) being an integer number and (Formula presented.)2) identical inductor–capacitor ((Formula presented.)) tank VCOs. In theory, this MVCO can provide 2(Formula presented.) different phase sinusoidal signals. A six-phase VCO based on the proposed structure is designed in a TSMC 0.18(Formula presented.)um CMOS process. Simulation results show that at the supply voltage of 0.8(Formula presented.)V, the total power consumption of the six-phase VCO circuit is about 1(Formula presented.)mW, the oscillation frequency is tunable from 2.3(Formula presented.)GHz to 2.5(Formula presented.)GHz when the control voltage varies from 0(Formula presented.)V to 0.8(Formula presented.)V, and the phase noise is lower than (Formula presented.)128(Formula presented.)dBc/Hz at 1(Formula presented.)MHz offset frequency. The proposed MVCO has lower phase noise, lower power consumption and more outputs than other related works in the literature.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio

The final publication is available at Springer via https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10470-016-0772-7 © Springer Science+Business Media New York 2016In this paper, a NMOS-based wideband low power and linear tunable transconductance current differencing transconductance amplifier (CDTA) is presented. Based on the NMOS CDTA, a novel simple and easily reconfigurable configurable analogue block (CAB) is designed. Moreover, using the novel CAB, a simple and versatile butterfly-shaped FPAA structure is introduced. The FPAA consists of six identical CABs, and it could realize six order current-mode low pass filter, second order current-mode universal filter, current-mode quadrature oscillator, current-mode multi-phase oscillator and current-mode multiplier for analog signal processing. The Cadence IC Design Tools 5.1.41 post-layout simulation and measurement results are included to confirm the theory.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
Spatial entanglement of twin quantum images
We show that spatial entanglement of two twin images obtained by parametric
down-conversion is complete, i.e. concerns both amplitude and phase. This is
realised through a homodyne detection of these images which allows for
measurement of the field quadrature components. EPR correlations are shown to
exist between symmetrical pixels of the two images. The best possible
correlation is obtained by adjusting the phase of the local oscillator field
(LO) in the area of maximal amplification. The results for quadrature
components hold unchanged even in absence of any input image i.e. for pure
parametric fluorescence. In this case they are not related to intensity and
phase fluctuations.Comment: 19 pages, 2 figure
Tomographic readout of an opto-mechanical interferometer
The quantum state of light changes its nature when being reflected off a
mechanical oscillator due to the latter's susceptibility to radiation pressure.
As a result, a coherent state can transform into a squeezed state and can get
entangled with the motion of the oscillator. The complete tomographic
reconstruction of the state of light requires the ability to readout arbitrary
quadratures. Here we demonstrate such a readout by applying a balanced homodyne
detector to an interferometric position measurement of a thermally excited
high-Q silicon nitride membrane in a Michelson-Sagnac interferometer. A readout
noise of \unit{1.9 \cdot 10^{-16}}{\metre/\sqrt{\hertz}} around the
membrane's fundamental oscillation mode at \unit{133}{\kilo\hertz} has been
achieved, going below the peak value of the standard quantum limit by a factor
of 8.2 (9 dB). The readout noise was entirely dominated by shot noise in a
rather broad frequency range around the mechanical resonance.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
