    Staff Nurse Ratings of Implementation Self-Efficacy for EBP (ISE4EBP) and Organizational EBP Readiness

    There is limited research about nurses' confidence in implementing evidence into clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to further test, refine and strengthen the Implementation Self-Efficacy for EBP (ISE4EBP) scale and gain knowledge about staff nurses' perspectives of their confidence in EBP implementation in relation to the work environment as measured by the Context Assessment Index (CAI). We proposed, higher nurses confident in implementing evidence into practice would result in higher levels of implementing evidence-based practices (EBP). Bandura's theory of self-efficacy, which postulates that task-specific self-efficacy predicts performance guided the study. In a sample of 75 registered nurses, the overall average score for the ISE4EBP scale was 63%, indicating moderate confidence in implementation strategies.     In recent years Business Intelligence (BI) systems have consistently been rated as one of the highest priorities of Information Systems (IS) and business leaders. BI allows firms to apply information for supporting their processes and decisions by combining its capabilities in both of organizational and technical issues. Many of companies are being spent a significant portion of its IT budgets on business intelligence and related technology. Evaluation of BI readiness is vital because it serves two important goals. First, it shows gaps areas where company is not ready to proceed with its BI efforts. By identifying BI readiness gaps, we can avoid wasting time and resources. Second, the evaluation guides us what we need to close the gaps and implement BI with a high probability of success. This paper proposes to present an overview of BI and necessities for evaluation of readiness.     Comparing alignment factors in SMEs and large organizations: a planning integration perspective

    Measurement of the alignment between business strategies and information systems (IS) has demonstrated positive impact for the organizational performance. The factors that have proved relevant when assessing the maturity level of alignment are: communication, competency/value measurement, governance, partnership, architecture & scope, and skills. Existing research, however, has focused on the assessment of these factors on large organizations and has barely explored their impact on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). This paper uses the data provided by 127 participants from large and SMEs in order to identify whether the aforementioned factors are also relevant for assessing the level of alignment maturity in SMEs. The results from this research suggest that there are not significant differences between large organizations and SMEs when assessing those factors. In addition, this research also explored the relation between different planning integration of alignment (independent, sequential and simultaneous) in order to measure the perceived relevance of the factors. The results suggest that the planning integration identified on SMEs and large organizations has a positive correlation on how these factors are ranked. For both SMEs and large organizations where the formulation is simultaneous, the relevance of the factors is higher perceived than it is for those where the formulation is independent or sequential

    Decreasing Duration of Mechanical Restraint Episodes by Increasing Registered Nurse Assessment and Surveillance in an Acute Psychiatric Hospital

    Background Application of mechanical restraints is a high-risk emergency measure that requires psychiatric intensive care in order to assure patient safety and expedite release at the earliest opportunity. While current regulations require that trained staff continuously observe restrained individuals, assessment by a registered nurse is required only once an hour. This project builds on research that demonstrated a regulatory change requiring more frequent registered nurse assessments led to decreased duration of mechanical restraint episodes in an acute psychiatric hospital. Purpose The purpose of this project was to implement and evaluate a practice change that required increased frequency of registered nurse assessment and surveillance during mechanical restraint episodes. Methods The nursing department standard requirement for frequency of face-to-face registered nurse assessment and surveillance of patients during episodes of mechanical restraint was increased on pilot units from once every thirty minutes to continuous assessment and surveillance throughout the duration of the restraint application. Quantitative data was collected on hours of duration of restraint episodes on four pilot units for three months before and three months after the intervention and mean duration of episodes was compared before and after the practice change. Results Mean duration of episodes on pilot units decreased 44% in the three months post intervention: 15% on adult units and 70% on the adolescent unit. Conclusion and Recommendation Increasing the frequency of registered nurse assessment and surveillance during mechanical restraint has been shown to decrease duration of restraint episodes. Nurses are encouraged to change practice standards for mechanical restraint, which is a high-risk emergency measure, to provide continuous psychiatric intensive care by a registered nurse.     ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks: a literature review

    Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation is a complex and vibrant process, one that involves a combination of technological and organizational interactions. Often an ERP implementation project is the single largest IT project that an organization has ever launched and requires a mutual fit of system and organization. Also the concept of an ERP implementation supporting business processes across many different departments is not a generic, rigid and uniform concept and depends on variety of factors. As a result, the issues addressing the ERP implementation process have been one of the major concerns in industry. Therefore ERP implementation receives attention from practitioners and scholars and both, business as well as academic literature is abundant and not always very conclusive or coherent. However, research on ERP systems so far has been mainly focused on diffusion, use and impact issues. Less attention has been given to the methods used during the configuration and the implementation of ERP systems, even though they are commonly used in practice, they still remain largely unexplored and undocumented in Information Systems research. So, the academic relevance of this research is the contribution to the existing body of scientific knowledge. An annotated brief literature review is done in order to evaluate the current state of the existing academic literature. The purpose is to present a systematic overview of relevant ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks as a desire for achieving a better taxonomy of ERP implementation methodologies. This paper is useful to researchers who are interested in ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Results will serve as an input for a classification of the existing ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks.
