    Applying digital content management to support localisation

    The retrieval and presentation of digital content such as that on the World Wide Web (WWW) is a substantial area of research. While recent years have seen huge expansion in the size of web-based archives that can be searched efficiently by commercial search engines, the presentation of potentially relevant content is still limited to ranked document lists represented by simple text snippets or image keyframe surrogates. There is expanding interest in techniques to personalise the presentation of content to improve the richness and effectiveness of the user experience. One of the most significant challenges to achieving this is the increasingly multilingual nature of this data, and the need to provide suitably localised responses to users based on this content. The Digital Content Management (DCM) track of the Centre for Next Generation Localisation (CNGL) is seeking to develop technologies to support advanced personalised access and presentation of information by combining elements from the existing research areas of Adaptive Hypermedia and Information Retrieval. The combination of these technologies is intended to produce significant improvements in the way users access information. We review key features of these technologies and introduce early ideas for how these technologies can support localisation and localised content before concluding with some impressions of future directions in DCM

    The Robust Reading Competition Annotation and Evaluation Platform

    The ICDAR Robust Reading Competition (RRC), initiated in 2003 and re-established in 2011, has become a de-facto evaluation standard for robust reading systems and algorithms. Concurrent with its second incarnation in 2011, a continuous effort started to develop an on-line framework to facilitate the hosting and management of competitions. This paper outlines the Robust Reading Competition Annotation and Evaluation Platform, the backbone of the competitions. The RRC Annotation and Evaluation Platform is a modular framework, fully accessible through on-line interfaces. It comprises a collection of tools and services for managing all processes involved with defining and evaluating a research task, from dataset definition to annotation management, evaluation specification and results analysis. Although the framework has been designed with robust reading research in mind, many of the provided tools are generic by design.     Design and Implementation of Network Public Opinion Analysis System

    Network public opinion analysis is an important way of information analysis processing. This paper based on the research of the related technologies, designs and realizes a new network public opinion analysis system. System mainly includes network data fetching part, fetching the data processing part, analyzes the processed data part and display part of the public opinion analysis results. In the document extraction part, used the web crawler technology, Larbin web crawler to realize the collection of web content; In public opinion information analysis part, the implementation of the new topic adopts an improved Single - Pass clustering algorithm. This algorithm is using of multi-center, using the title and body of the vector to compared two-way ,that is better reflect the dynamics of public opinion topics. Finally, in the network environment of a university, we have the tests repeatedly. The results show that the new public opinion analysis system running is stable and has good efficiency. The thesis has certain value for the development of other information analysis systems in the Internet

    Focused image search in the social Web.

    Recently, social multimedia-sharing websites, which allow users to upload, annotate, and share online photo or video collections, have become increasingly popular. The user tags or annotations constitute the new multimedia meta-data . We present an image search system that exploits both image textual and visual information. First, we use focused crawling and DOM Tree based web data extraction methods to extract image textual features from social networking image collections. Second, we propose the concept of visual words to handle the image\u27s visual content for fast indexing and searching. We also develop several user friendly search options to allow users to query the index using words and image feature descriptions (visual words). The developed image search system tries to bridge the gap between the scalable industrial image search engines, which are based on keyword search, and the slower content based image retrieval systems developed mostly in the academic field and designed to search based on image content only. We have implemented a working prototype by crawling and indexing over 16,056 images from flickr.com, one of the most popular image sharing websites.
