Prediction of local particle pollution level based on artificial neural network
Citizens eager to know the local pollution level to prevent from air pollution. The real-time measurement for everywhere is a very expensive way, a statistical model based on artificial neural network is applied in this research. This model can estimate particle pollution level with some influencing factors, including background pollution level, weather conditions, urban morphology and local pollution sources. The monitoring from regulatory monitoring sites is considered as the background level. The field measurements of 20 locations are conducted to feed the output layer of ANN model. The average relative error of prediction compared with measurement is 9.24% for PM10 and 18.90% for PM2.5
Advanced space system concepts and their orbital support needs (1980 - 2000). Volume 3: Detailed data. Part 1: Catalog of initiatives, functional options, and future environments and goals
The following areas were discussed in relation to a study of the commonality of space vehicle applications to future national needs: (1) index of initiatives (civilian observation, communication, support), brief illustrated description of each initiative, time periods (from 1980 to 2000+) for implementation of these initiatives; (2) data bank of functional system options, presented in the form of data sheets, one for each of the major functions, with the system option for near-term, midterm, and far-term space projects applicable to each subcategory of functions to be fulfilled; (3) table relating initiatives and desired goals (public service and humanistic, materialistic, scientific and intellectual); and (4) data on size, weight and cost estimations
Setting an integrated soil monitoring system for Malta : strategy, feasibility and recommendations
Chapter 6Since 2010, MEPA has embarked on a project (which attracted co-funded ERDF
assistance) (1) to develop a multi-thematic environment strategy that would lead to
updating of its data/ information monitoring capabilities for a number of environmental
sectors. The monitoring and continuous evaluation of soil properties is one important
sector within this project. Essentially, a multi-criterion assessment of existing available
information has been carried out with a view to objectively chart the most appropriate
process to carry out a pilot field sampling by testing a pre-agreed set of indicators. The
latter were established after taking into consideration all degradation pressures threatening
the continued sustainability of this resource.
Multi-criterion analysis was carried out by means of a limited set of soil-related
datasets published in past editions of Malta’s State of the Environment Report in order
to support a number of objectives stipulated within the Project’s ambitious Terms of
Reference. Information was derived from earlier attempts to establish a soil information
system for Malta.
All soil degradation threats, officially determined by the European Commission’s
Technical Working Groups, have been taken into consideration within the aforementioned
project and its research methodology with a view of establishing a shared GIS environment
in accordance with state-of-the-art information dissemination standards.peer-reviewe
Using a Model-driven Approach in Building a Provenance Framework for Tracking Policy-making Processes in Smart Cities
The significance of provenance in various settings has emphasised its
potential in the policy-making process for analytics in Smart Cities. At
present, there exists no framework that can capture the provenance in a
policy-making setting. This research therefore aims at defining a novel
framework, namely, the Policy Cycle Provenance (PCP) Framework, to capture the
provenance of the policy-making process. However, it is not straightforward to
design the provenance framework due to a number of associated policy design
challenges. The design challenges revealed the need for an adaptive system for
tracking policies therefore a model-driven approach has been considered in
designing the PCP framework. Also, suitability of a networking approach is
proposed for designing workflows for tracking the policy-making process.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables, Proc of the 21st International
