A Privacy-Preserving Outsourced Data Model in Cloud Environment
Nowadays, more and more machine learning applications, such as medical
diagnosis, online fraud detection, email spam filtering, etc., services are
provided by cloud computing. The cloud service provider collects the data from
the various owners to train or classify the machine learning system in the
cloud environment. However, multiple data owners may not entirely rely on the
cloud platform that a third party engages. Therefore, data security and privacy
problems are among the critical hindrances to using machine learning tools,
particularly with multiple data owners. In addition, unauthorized entities can
detect the statistical input data and infer the machine learning model
parameters. Therefore, a privacy-preserving model is proposed, which protects
the privacy of the data without compromising machine learning efficiency. In
order to protect the data of data owners, the epsilon-differential privacy is
used, and fog nodes are used to address the problem of the lower bandwidth and
latency in this proposed scheme. The noise is produced by the
epsilon-differential mechanism, which is then added to the data. Moreover, the
noise is injected at the data owner site to protect the owners data. Fog nodes
collect the noise-added data from the data owners, then shift it to the cloud
platform for storage, computation, and performing the classification tasks

A survey of machine and deep learning methods for privacy protection in the Internet of things
Recent advances in hardware and information technology have accelerated the proliferation of smart and interconnected devices facilitating the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT applications and services are widely adopted in environments such as smart cities, smart industry, autonomous vehicles, and eHealth. As such, IoT devices are ubiquitously connected, transferring sensitive and personal data without requiring human interaction. Consequently, it is crucial to preserve data privacy. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of recent Machine Learning (ML)- and Deep Learning (DL)-based solutions for privacy in IoT. First, we present an in depth analysis of current privacy threats and attacks. Then, for each ML architecture proposed, we present the implementations, details, and the published results. Finally, we identify the most effective solutions for the different threats and attacks. This work is partially supported by the Generalitat de Catalunya under grant 2017 SGR 962 and the HORIZON-GPHOENIX (101070586) and HORIZON-EUVITAMIN-V (101093062) projects.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Differential Privacy for Industrial Internet of Things: Opportunities, Applications and Challenges
The development of Internet of Things (IoT) brings new changes to various fields. Particularly, industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is promoting a new round of industrial revolution. With more applications of IIoT, privacy protection issues are emerging. Specially, some common algorithms in IIoT technology such as deep models strongly rely on data collection, which leads to the risk of privacy disclosure. Recently, differential privacy has been used to protect user-terminal privacy in IIoT, so it is necessary to make in-depth research on this topic. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive survey on the opportunities, applications and challenges of differential privacy in IIoT. We firstly review related papers on IIoT and privacy protection, respectively. Then we focus on the metrics of industrial data privacy, and analyze the contradiction between data utilization for deep models and individual privacy protection. Several valuable problems are summarized and new research ideas are put forward. In conclusion, this survey is dedicated to complete comprehensive summary and lay foundation for the follow-up researches on industrial differential privacy
Security and Privacy for Green IoT-based Agriculture: Review, Blockchain solutions, and Challenges
open access articleThis paper presents research challenges on security and privacy issues in the field of green IoT-based agriculture. We start by describing a four-tier green IoT-based agriculture architecture and summarizing the existing surveys that deal with smart agriculture. Then, we provide a classification of threat models against green IoT-based agriculture into five categories, including, attacks against privacy, authentication, confidentiality, availability, and integrity properties. Moreover, we provide a taxonomy and a side-by-side comparison of the state-of-the-art methods toward secure and privacy-preserving technologies for IoT applications and how they will be adapted for green IoT-based agriculture. In addition, we analyze the privacy-oriented blockchain-based solutions as well as consensus algorithms for IoT applications and how they will be adapted for green IoT-based agriculture. Based on the current survey, we highlight open research challenges and discuss possible future research directions in the security and privacy of green IoT-based agriculture
A Comprehensive Survey on the Cooperation of Fog Computing Paradigm-Based IoT Applications: Layered Architecture, Real-Time Security Issues, and Solutions
The Internet of Things (IoT) can enable seamless communication between millions of billions of objects. As IoT applications continue to grow, they face several challenges, including high latency, limited processing and storage capacity, and network failures. To address these stated challenges, the fog computing paradigm has been introduced, purpose is to integrate the cloud computing paradigm with IoT to bring the cloud resources closer to the IoT devices. Thus, it extends the computing, storage, and networking facilities toward the edge of the network. However, data processing and storage occur at the IoT devices themselves in the fog-based IoT network, eliminating the need to transmit the data to the cloud. Further, it also provides a faster response as compared to the cloud. Unfortunately, the characteristics of fog-based IoT networks arise traditional real-time security challenges, which may increase severe concern to the end-users. However, this paper aims to focus on fog-based IoT communication, targeting real-time security challenges. In this paper, we examine the layered architecture of fog-based IoT networks along working of IoT applications operating within the context of the fog computing paradigm. Moreover, we highlight real-time security challenges and explore several existing solutions proposed to tackle these challenges. In the end, we investigate the research challenges that need to be addressed and explore potential future research directions that should be followed by the research community.©2023 The Authors.
