    Stakeholder engagement as a facilitator of organizational learning

    This paper examines the relationship between stakeholder engagement and competence building. Following the dual perspective of the firm, which indicated that managers deal with both transactions and competences concurrently, we argue that stakeholder interactions also concern both transaction cost reduction and value creation. Based on a review of the extant literature, we incorporated a micro-macro connection between organizational learning and competence building. Further to this, we developed a conceptual framework by linking stakeholder engagement and organizational learning. This framework demonstrates that stakeholder relations may have significant effects on organizational learning and thus stakeholder engagement can play the role of facilitator in building firm competences

    ProDial – an annotated proactive dialogue act corpus for conversational assistants using crowdsourcing

    Proactive behaviour is an integral interaction concept of both human-human as well as human-computer cooperation. However, modelling proactive systems and appropriate interaction strategies are still an open quest. In this work, a parameterised and annotated dialogue corpus has been created. The corpus is based on human interactions with an autonomous agent embedded in a serious game setting. For modelling proactive dialogue behaviour, the agent was capable of selecting from four different proactive actions (None, Notification, Suggestion, Intervention) in order to serve as the user’s personal advisor in a sequential planning task. Data was collected online using crowdsourcing (308 participants) resulting in a total of 3696 system-user exchanges. Data was annotated with objective features as well as subjectively self-reported features for capturing the interplay between proactive behaviour and situational as well as user-dependent characteristics. The corpus is intended for building a user model for developing trustworthy proactive interaction strategies

    Combining heterogeneous inputs for the development of adaptive and multimodal interaction systems

    In this paper we present a novel framework for the integration of visual sensor networks and speech-based interfaces. Our proposal follows the standard reference architecture in fusion systems (JDL), and combines different techniques related to Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing and User Modeling to provide an enhanced interaction with their users. Firstly, the framework integrates a Cooperative Surveillance Multi-Agent System (CS-MAS), which includes several types of autonomous agents working in a coalition to track and make inferences on the positions of the targets. Secondly, enhanced conversational agents facilitate human-computer interaction by means of speech interaction. Thirdly, a statistical methodology allows modeling the user conversational behavior, which is learned from an initial corpus and improved with the knowledge acquired from the successive interactions.     The role of trust in proactive conversational assistants

    Humans and machines harmoniously collaborating and bene ting from each other is a long lasting dream for researchers in robotics and arti cial intelligence. An important feature of ef cient and rewarding cooperation is the ability to assume possible problematic situations and act in advance to prevent negative outcomes. This concept of assistance is known under the term proactivity. In this article, we investigate the development and implementation of proactive dialogues for fostering a trustworthy human-computer relationship and providing adequate and timely assistance. Here, we make several contributions. A formalisation of proactive dialogue in conversational assistants is provided. The formalisation forms a framework for integrating proactive dialogue in conversational applications. Additionally, we present a study showing the relations between proactive dialogue actions and several aspects of the perceived trustworthiness of a system as well as effects on the user experience. The results of the experiments provide signi cant contributions to the line of proactive dialogue research. Particularly, we provide insights on the effects of proactive dialogue on the human-computer trust relationship and dependencies between proactive dialogue and user specific and situational characteristics
