    Antimisting kerosene atomization and flammability

    Various parameters found to affect the flammability of antimisting kerosene (Jet A + polymer additive) are investigated. Digital image processing was integrated into a technique for measurement of fuel spray characteristics. This technique was developed to avoid many of the error sources inherent to other spray assessment techniques and was applied to the study of engine fuel nozzle atomization performance with Jet A and antimisting fuel. Aircraft accident fuel spill and ignition dynamics were modeled in a steady state simulator allowing flammability to be measured as a function of airspeed, fuel flow rate, fuel jet Reynolds number and polymer concentration. The digital imaging technique was employed to measure spray characteristics in this simulation and these results were related to flammability test results. Scaling relationships were investigated through correlation of experimental results with characteristic dimensions spanning more than two orders of magnitude

    Characteristics are defined of the next generation direct readout meteorological satellite system with particular application to Tiros N. Both space and ground systems are included. The recommended space system is composed of four geosynchronous satellites and two low altitude satellites in sun-synchronous orbit. The goesynchronous satellites transmit to direct readout ground stations via a shared S-band link, relayed FOFAX satellite cloud cover pictures (visible and infrared) and weather charts (WEFAX). Basic sensor data is transmitted to regional Data Utilization Stations via the same S-band link. Basic sensor data consists of 0.5 n.m. sub-point resolution data in the 0.55 - 0.7 micron spectral region, and 4.0 n.m. resolution data in the 10.5 - 12.6 micron spectral region. The two low altitude satellites in sun-synchronous orbit provide data to direct readout ground stations via a 137 MHz link, a 400 Mhz link, and an S-band link

    This study aimed at obtaining factual information and overview to the development of land use patterns for buildings in urban areas by interval time period, both spatially and aspatially, by utilizing high-resolution satellite photo image (high resolution spatial image) combined with field observations. This research used survey method approach. The data of this study consisted of primary and secondary data classified into spatial and aspatial data in the form of time series obtained through documents recording techniques, field observations, previous mapping sources, as well as depth interviews. The analysis technique used Image Processing Analysis through programs and software Arc View. The result of research showed that there was a quite rapid development of land use patterns for building in Palu within the last 50 years (≤ 1970 till 2010) It had building addition in 65,173 units (82.28%), from 14,032 units in ≤1970 to 79,205 units in 2010, and the addition of extensive use of land for building was 4723.52 ha (89.06%), from 516.98 ha in ≤ 1970 to 4723.52 ha in 2010. The development level of land use patterns for building was getting along with the size of distribution and population growth in Palu

    Algorithms and procedures necessary to merge aircraft synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and LANDSAT multispectral scanner (MSS) imagery were determined. The design of a SAR/LANDSAT data merging system was developed. Aircraft SAR images were registered to the corresponding LANDSAT MSS scenes and were the subject of experimental investigations. Results indicate that the registration of SAR imagery with LANDSAT MSS imagery is feasible from a technical viewpoint, and useful from an information-content viewpoint

    The general objective of the research was to provide the space and life sciences directorate with an improved biostereometric measurement capability. This objective was determined from the usefulness of stereophotogrametric techniques developed during the Apollo and Skylab Missions to measure body conformation, surface area, volume and relative density of astronauts. These noninvasive anthropometric measurements provided invaluable data concerning the physiological, biochemical and nutritional effects of the space environment upon the human body. The indirect nature of the technique has many advantages over other methods, and has a potential for many other applications. The stereophotographs contain an enormous amount of data which can be later reexamined should the need arise
