These works may not be re-posted without the explicit permission of the copyright holdersThe main objective of the study was to identify the factors contributing to the usage of enterprise resource planning systems at the organisational layer, the departmental layer and the end-user layer in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Pakistan. The conceptual framework of this study is based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) developed by Venkatesh, Morris, Davis, & Davis (2003). The multi-level conceptual model developed for the study was tested empirically using three distinct questionnaires for analytical layers. Primary data was collected from 18 higher education institutions in Pakistan; 86 responses from the organisational layer, 143 from the departmental layer and 1088 from the end-user layer. Structural equations were formulated to investigate the effect of factors at three layers contributing to the usage of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERPS). Organisational training was found to be the only factor not making a significant contribution to the usage of enterprise resource planning systems while all other factors included in the conceptual framework were proved to be significant. The model formulation and application of SEM techniques to investigate the determinants of usage of ERPS in HEIs in Pakistan is the unique contribution of this studyFinal Published versio

    Get PDF
Although the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system has long been acknowledged in higher education institutions (HEIs) to improve their performance and efficiency, there are not many HEIs in Egypt that adopt ERP system and those that do are in an early stage. The research on ERP system in HEI is still limited and in the immature stage, hence little is known about the success factors for the adoption stage of ERP systems. Consequently, this article aims to understand what are the success factors for ERP adoption and further develop a conceptual model that explains the successful implementation of ERP in HEIs and its impact on competitive advantage. Based on previous studies, this paper identifies and conceptualizes success factors for ERP and further develops the proposed model for the adoption of ERP system in HEIs. This article contributes to the development of the theoretical framework of the successful implementation of the ERP system to explain the competitive advantage of HEI by merging information system (IS) success and diffusion of innovation (DOI) theories with the success factors for the adoption stage of ERP systems. The current study will provide recommendations and guidelines for both the potential adopters and the vendors on the successful ERP system adoption

The paper in hand deals with meta-analysis of quality indicators of Teacher Education. The study was designed to determine the actual standards for quality teacher education, to compare the national quality standards of teacher education with international standards, to enlist the merits and demerits of quality standards of teacher education in Pakistan and to give some suggestions for improving teacher education standards in Pakistan. Method of the study was critically reviewing and analyzing the quality indicators practiced by international Teacher Education councils and various global universities, HEC & NACTE standards for quality education. The results and findings were the existing of the gap in the scope of quality indicators, the difference in the number of indicators and unequal treatment to some indicators with reference to its significance. The study recommends harmonized scope in the quality of indicators, review and updating the indicators in the context of Pakistani educational setting, equal weighting may be awarded irrespective of the nature and body of the significant level of the indicators. Pakistani standards may be reviewed thoroughly and it may be updated in light of international standards for quality teachers’ education.  It was concluded that Monitoring and evaluation system for the implementation of the quality standards may be regularized and be made biased free, so that a quality system for teacher education be established in the country

Abstract Recently the universities in Pakistan started replacing their old legacy systems with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to improve their academic and administrative processes. Previously, ERP systems were used in business organizations to gain a competitive edge over competitors. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has implemented ERP systems at eight different universities in Pakistan. The HEC has invested a significant amount of money to facilitate the integration, customization and implementation of these systems. Little research is reported to assess the impact of ERP systems in higher education institutions. Previous studies reported in the literature focus mainly on Critical Success Factors (CSFs) and risk factors in success and failure of ERP systems. To explore the research problem, various Information System (IS) success models were studied as part of the literature review. This study also presents a conceptual research model based on re-specification of the DeLone and McLean IS success model to empirically measure the impact of ERP in higher education in the Pakistani universities’ context. This research study empirically evaluated the post implementation impact of the ERP systems in higher education institutions, focusing on improvement in the academic and administrative processes. This study used a sequential explanatory mixed method design approach to meet the objectives and address the research questions. Quantitative data were collected from a survey involving 230 respondents (120 students and 110 faculty members) from two selected universities that had implemented ERP systems. The qualitative data was collected through 12 interviews (five faculty members, five heads of department and two VCs). The results of both the quantitative and qualitative findings highlight that the ERP implementation has a positive and significant impact on the improvement of academic processes such as student satisfaction, teaching quality, better communication and feedback mechanism and the higher management decision-making process in Pakistani university contexts. The research findings will help future researchers to build on the research, perhaps with different samples and methodologies and will be useful for higher education to formulate strategies for the implementation of ERP system in their respective public-sector universities. This thesis consists of eight chapters on investment in ERP and its impact on financial performance of adopters and non-adopters. In first two chapters, we discuss ERP implementation in general and why it is interesting to focus on the context of Pakistan and literature review respectively. The conceptual innovation of research is the cost of not investing in IT is discussed in chapter three. In this chapter, an ITIVJ Model has been developed based on Game-theoretic ground and review of past studies. It has also been shown how the cost of not investing can be used to extend a traditional decision model based on NPV. Chapter four and five focus on variables and hypotheses and data and methodology respectively. It has also been probed in these chapters that how ERP implementation affect variables representing the operational and strategic performance of adopters and non-adopters. Chapter six explore the results of statistical techniques used in this study. The main result of the research is that companies implementing ERP are not necessarily doing better after implementation, but they perform better than the non-adopters whose financial performance generally degraded in the same period of time. These results also validate the model developed in chapter three. The discussion and limitation are given in chapter seven whereas chapter eight conclude the dissertation and provide the gaps for future research
