A general framework of multi-population methods with clustering in undetectable dynamic environments
Copyright @ 2011 IEEETo solve dynamic optimization problems, multiple
population methods are used to enhance the population diversity for an algorithm with the aim of maintaining multiple populations in different sub-areas in the fitness landscape. Many experimental studies have shown that locating and tracking multiple relatively good optima rather than a single global optimum is an effective idea in dynamic environments. However, several challenges need to be addressed when multi-population methods are applied, e.g.,
how to create multiple populations, how to maintain them in different sub-areas, and how to deal with the situation where changes can not be detected or predicted. To address these issues, this paper investigates a hierarchical clustering method to locate and track multiple optima for dynamic optimization problems. To deal with undetectable dynamic environments, this
paper applies the random immigrants method without change detection based on a mechanism that can automatically reduce redundant individuals in the search space throughout the run. These methods are implemented into several research areas, including particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, and differential evolution. An experimental study is conducted based on the moving peaks benchmark to test the performance with several other algorithms from the literature. The experimental
results show the efficiency of the clustering method for locating and tracking multiple optima in comparison with other algorithms based on multi-population methods on the moving peaks

CoMaL Tracking: Tracking Points at the Object Boundaries
Traditional point tracking algorithms such as the KLT use local 2D
information aggregation for feature detection and tracking, due to which their
performance degrades at the object boundaries that separate multiple objects.
Recently, CoMaL Features have been proposed that handle such a case. However,
they proposed a simple tracking framework where the points are re-detected in
each frame and matched. This is inefficient and may also lose many points that
are not re-detected in the next frame. We propose a novel tracking algorithm to
accurately and efficiently track CoMaL points. For this, the level line segment
associated with the CoMaL points is matched to MSER segments in the next frame
using shape-based matching and the matches are further filtered using
texture-based matching. Experiments show improvements over a simple
re-detect-and-match framework as well as KLT in terms of speed/accuracy on
different real-world applications, especially at the object boundaries.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, to appear in 1st Joint BMTT-PETS Workshop on

Towards Real-Time Detection and Tracking of Spatio-Temporal Features: Blob-Filaments in Fusion Plasma
A novel algorithm and implementation of real-time identification and tracking
of blob-filaments in fusion reactor data is presented. Similar spatio-temporal
features are important in many other applications, for example, ignition
kernels in combustion and tumor cells in a medical image. This work presents an
approach for extracting these features by dividing the overall task into three
steps: local identification of feature cells, grouping feature cells into
extended feature, and tracking movement of feature through overlapping in
space. Through our extensive work in parallelization, we demonstrate that this
approach can effectively make use of a large number of compute nodes to detect
and track blob-filaments in real time in fusion plasma. On a set of 30GB fusion
simulation data, we observed linear speedup on 1024 processes and completed
blob detection in less than three milliseconds using Edison, a Cray XC30 system
at NERSC.Comment: 14 pages, 40 figure
Real-time detection and tracking of multiple objects with partial decoding in H.264/AVC bitstream domain
In this paper, we show that we can apply probabilistic spatiotemporal
macroblock filtering (PSMF) and partial decoding processes to effectively
detect and track multiple objects in real time in H.264|AVC bitstreams with
stationary background. Our contribution is that our method cannot only show
fast processing time but also handle multiple moving objects that are
articulated, changing in size or internally have monotonous color, even though
they contain a chaotic set of non-homogeneous motion vectors inside. In
addition, our partial decoding process for H.264|AVC bitstreams enables to
improve the accuracy of object trajectories and overcome long occlusion by
using extracted color information.Comment: SPIE Real-Time Image and Video Processing Conference 200
Detect or Track: Towards Cost-Effective Video Object Detection/Tracking
State-of-the-art object detectors and trackers are developing fast. Trackers
are in general more efficient than detectors but bear the risk of drifting. A
question is hence raised -- how to improve the accuracy of video object
detection/tracking by utilizing the existing detectors and trackers within a
given time budget? A baseline is frame skipping -- detecting every N-th frames
and tracking for the frames in between. This baseline, however, is suboptimal
since the detection frequency should depend on the tracking quality. To this
end, we propose a scheduler network, which determines to detect or track at a
certain frame, as a generalization of Siamese trackers. Although being
light-weight and simple in structure, the scheduler network is more effective
than the frame skipping baselines and flow-based approaches, as validated on
ImageNet VID dataset in video object detection/tracking.Comment: Accepted to AAAI 201
