    A comparative study of Persian sentiment analysis based on different feature combinations

    In recent years, the use of internet and correspondingly the number of online reviews, comments and opinions have increased significantly. It is indeed very difficult for humans to read these opinions and classify them accurately. Consequently, there is a need for an automated system to process this big data. In this paper, a novel sentiment analysis framework for Persian language has been proposed. The proposed framework comprises three basic steps: pre-processing, feature extraction, and support vector machine (SVM) based classification. The performance of the proposed framework has been evaluated taking into account different features combinations. The simulation results have revealed that the best performance could be achieved by integrating unigram, bigram, and trigram features

    Feature selection methods in Persian sentiment analysis

    With the enormous growth of digital content in internet, various types of online reviews such as product and movie reviews present a wealth of subjective information that can be very helpful for potential users. Sentiment analysis aims to use automated tools to detect subjective information from reviews. Up to now as there are few researches conducted on feature selection in sentiment analysis, there are very rare works for Persian sentiment analysis. This paper considers the problem of sentiment classification using different feature selection methods for online customer reviews in Persian language. Three of the challenges of Persian text are using of a wide variety of declensional suffixes, different word spacing and many informal or colloquial words. In this paper we study these challenges by proposing a model for sentiment classification of Persian review documents. The proposed model is based on stemming and feature selection and is employed Naive Bayes algorithm for classification. We evaluate the performance of the model on a collection of cellphone reviews, where the results show the effectiveness of the proposed approache

    A FRAMEWORK FOR ARABIC SENTIMENT ANALYSIS USING MACHINE LEARNING CLASSIFIERS

    International audienceIn recent years, the use of Internet and online comments, expressed in natural language text, have increased significantly. However, it is difficult for humans to read all these comments and classify them appropriately. Consequently, an automatic approach is required to classify the unstructured data. In this paper, we propose a framework for Arabic language comprising of three steps: pre-processing, feature extraction and machine learning classification. The main aim of the proposed framework is to exploit the combination of different Arabic linguistic features. We evaluate the framework using two benchmark Arabic tweets datasets (ASTD, ATA), which enable sentiment polarity detection in general Arabic and Jordanian dialects. Comparative simulation results show that machine learning classifiers such as Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive Bayes, MultiLayer Perceptron (MLP) and Logistic Regression-based produce the best performance by using a combination of n-gram features from Arabic tweets datasets. Finally, we evaluate the performance of our proposed framework using an Ensemble classifier approach, with promising results

    HindiPersonalityNet: Personality Detection in Hindi Conversational Data using Deep Learning with Static Embedding

    Personality detection along with other behavioural and cognitive assessment can essentially explain why people act the way they do and can be useful to various online applications such as recommender systems, job screening, matchmaking, and counselling. Additionally, psychometric NLP relying on textual cues and distinctive markers in writing style within conversational utterances reveal signs of individual personalities. This work demonstrates a text-based deep neural model, HindiPersonalityNet of classifying conversations into three personality categories {ambivert, extrovert, introvert} for detecting personality in Hindi conversational data. The model utilizes GRU with BioWordVec embeddings for text classification and is trained/tested on a novel dataset, शख्सियत (pronounced as Shakhsiyat) curated using dialogues from an Indian crime-thriller drama series, Aarya. The model achieves an F1-score of 0.701 and shows the potential for leveraging conversational data from various sources to understand and predict a person's personality traits. It exhibits the ability to capture semantic as well as long-distance dependencies in conversations and establishes the effectiveness of our dataset as a benchmark for personality detection in Hindi dialogue data. Further, a comprehensive comparison of various static and dynamic word embedding is done on our standardized dataset to ascertain the most suitable embedding method for personality detection

The analysis of sentiment on social networks, such as Twitter or Facebook, has become a powerful means of learning about the users' opinions and has a wide range of applications. However, the efficiency and accuracy of sentiment analysis is being hindered by the challenges encountered in natural language processing (NLP). In recent years, it has been demonstrated that deep learning models are a promising solution to the challenges of NLP. This paper reviews the latest studies that have employed deep learning to solve sentiment analysis problems, such as sentiment polarity. Models using term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) and word embedding have been applied to a series of datasets.     Sentiment analysis (SA) is an enduring area for research especially in the field of text analysis. Text pre-processing is an important aspect to perform SA accurately. This paper presents a text processing model for SA, using natural language processing techniques for twitter data. The basic phases for machine learning are text collection, text cleaning, pre-processing, feature extractions in a text and then categorize the data according to the SA techniques. Keeping the focus on twitter data, the data is extracted in domain specific manner. In data cleaning phase, noisy data, missing data, punctuation, tags and emoticons have been considered. For pre-processing, tokenization is performed which is followed by stop word removal (SWR). The proposed article provides an insight of the techniques, that are used for text pre-processing, the impact of their presence on the dataset. The accuracy of classification techniques has been improved after applying text pre-processing and dimensionality has been reduced. The proposed corpus can be utilized in the area of market analysis, customer behaviour, polling analysis, and brand monitoring. The text pre-processing process can serve as the baseline to apply predictive analysis, machine learning and deep learning algorithms which can be extended according to problem definition

    Detection of atrial fibrillation using a machine learning approach

    The atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most well-known cardiac arrhythmias in clinical practice, with a prevalence of 1–2% in the community, which can increase the risk of stroke and myocardial infarction. The detection of AF electrocardiogram (ECG) can improve the early detection of diagnosis. In this paper, we have further developed a framework for processing the ECG signal in order to determine the AF episodes. We have implemented machine learning and deep learning algorithms to detect AF. Moreover, the experimental results show that better performance can be achieved with long short-term memory (LSTM) as compared to other algorithms. The initial experimental results illustrate that the deep learning algorithms, such as LSTM and convolutional neural network (CNN), achieved better performance (10%) as compared to machine learning classifiers, such as support vectors, logistic regression, etc. This preliminary work can help clinicians in AF detection with high accuracy and less probability of errors, which can ultimately result in reduction in fatality rate

    Sentiment Analysis of Persian Movie Reviews Using Deep Learning

    Sentiment analysis aims to automatically classify the subject’s sentiment (e.g., positive, negative, or neutral) towards a particular aspect such as a topic, product, movie, news, etc. Deep learning has recently emerged as a powerful machine learning technique to tackle the growing demand for accurate sentiment analysis. However, the majority of research efforts are devoted to English-language only, while information of great importance is also available in other languages. This paper presents a novel, context-aware, deep-learning-driven, Persian sentiment analysis approach. Specifically, the proposed deep-learning-driven automated feature-engineering approach classifies Persian movie reviews as having positive or negative sentiments. Two deep learning algorithms, convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long-short-term memory (LSTM), are applied and compared with our previously proposed manual-feature-engineering-driven, SVM-based approach. Simulation results demonstrate that LSTM obtained a better performance as compared to multilayer perceptron (MLP), autoencoder, support vector machine (SVM), logistic regression and CNN algorithms

    PersoNER: Persian named-entity recognition

    © 1963-2018 ACL. Named-Entity Recognition (NER) is still a challenging task for languages with low digital resources. The main difficulties arise from the scarcity of annotated corpora and the consequent problematic training of an effective NER pipeline. To abridge this gap, in this paper we target the Persian language that is spoken by a population of over a hundred million people world-wide. We first present and provide ArmanPerosNERCorpus, the first manually-annotated Persian NER corpus. Then, we introduce PersoNER, an NER pipeline for Persian that leverages a word embedding and a sequential max-margin classifier. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is capable of achieving interesting MUC7 and CoNNL scores while outperforming two alternatives based on a CRF and a recurrent neural network
