The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of homeopathic preparations to control thrips, Thrips tabaci Lind. (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), on onion produced using an organic cropping system. The research was carried out Ituporanga, Santa Catarina State, Brazil, during 2003, 2004 and 2006. Treatments were: wormwood, Artemisia verlotorum, 3CH and 30CH, tartar emetic 30CH, Bordeaux mixture 5% 3CH and 30CH, lime sulfur 5% 30CH, Staphisagria 8CH and 32CH, lime sulfur 5% 3CH, Bioalho® 3CH, triple superphosphate 3CH, neem, Azadirachta indica, leaf extract 3CH, extract of fodder radish, Raphanus sativus var. oleiferus, 3CH, shell lime 3CH, earth diatomaceous 3CH, Sulphur 3CH, plant damaged for onion thrips, T. tabaci and downy mildew, Peronospora destructor, 3CH, phosphate rock 3CH, ammonium nitrate 3CH, NPK 5-20-10 3CH, iron sulphate 3CH. Treatments did not differ significantly in relation to insect incidence, yield and mean bulb weight. Treatment's percentage efficacy was low, ranging from 0% to 13.6%. The correlation between thrips incidence, yield and mean bulb weight was not significant.O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de preparados homeopáticos no controle de tripes, Thrips tabaci Lind. Strong and Electromagnetic Decays of the Baryon Decuplet
We discuss the strong and radiative decays of the decuplet of baryon
resonances to the baryon octet in chiral perturbation theory. We comment on the
implications for the polarisability of the nucleon.Comment: 16 pages + 5 figures (.ps files) appended to file. Uses tables.tex

Seven coordinate molybdenum and tungsten complexes containing Tpm and Tpm derivatives and the impact of ligand substitution on NMR chemical shifts
A series of known and new seven coordinate molybdenum and tungsten complexes of tris(pyrazolyl)methane (Tpm) and substituted Tpm, [TpmM(CO)3X]+, have been synthesized. Depending on the identity of X, (bromo, iodo, hydrido) and the substitution of the Tpm ligand, substantial chemical shift differences are observed for the hydrogen on the central carbon of the Tpm ligand. Factors impacting the chemical shift of the hydrogen on the central carbon of the Tpm ligand, such as the electron donating ability of the Tpm ligand and the electronegativity of the additional ligand on the metal, will be discussed
Composite Higgs under LHC Experimental Scrutiny
The LHC has been built to understand the dynamics at the origin of the
breaking of the electroweak symmetry. Weakly coupled models with a fundamental
Higgs boson have focused most of the attention of the experimental searches. We
will discuss here how to reinterpret these searches in the context of strongly
coupled models where the Higgs boson emerges as a composite particle. In
particular, we use LHC data to constrain the compositeness scale. We also
briefly review the prospects to observe other bosonic and fermionic resonances
of the strong sector.Comment: 6 pages. Contribution to the proceedings of Hadron Collider Physics

New Concept of PLC Modems: Multi-Carrier System for Frequency Selective Slow-Fading Channels Based on Layered SCCC Turbocodes
The article introduces a novel concept of a PLC modem as a complement to the existing G3 and PRIME standards for communications using medium- or high-voltage overhead or cable lines. The proposed concept is based on the fact that the levels of impulse noise and frequency selectivity are lower on high-voltage lines than on low-voltage ones. Also, the demands for “cost-effective” circuitry design are not so crucial as in the case of modems for low-voltage level. In contract to these positive conditions, however, there is the need to overcome much longer distances and to take into account low SNR on the receiving side. With respect to the listed reasons, our concept makes use of MCM, instead of OFDM. The assumption of low SNR is compensated through the use of an efficient channel coding based on a serially concatenated turbo code. In addition, MCM offers lower latency and PAPR compared to OFDM. Therefore, when using MCM, it is possible to excite the line with higher power. The proposed concept has been verified during experimental transmission of testing data over a real, 5 km long, 22kV overhead line
Anticipating Daily Intention using On-Wrist Motion Triggered Sensing
Anticipating human intention by observing one's actions has many
applications. For instance, picking up a cellphone, then a charger (actions)
implies that one wants to charge the cellphone (intention). By anticipating the
intention, an intelligent system can guide the user to the closest power
outlet. We propose an on-wrist motion triggered sensing system for anticipating
daily intentions, where the on-wrist sensors help us to persistently observe
one's actions. The core of the system is a novel Recurrent Neural Network (RNN)
and Policy Network (PN), where the RNN encodes visual and motion observation to
anticipate intention, and the PN parsimoniously triggers the process of visual
observation to reduce computation requirement. We jointly trained the whole
network using policy gradient and cross-entropy loss. To evaluate, we collect
the first daily "intention" dataset consisting of 2379 videos with 34
intentions and 164 unique action sequences. Our method achieves 92.68%, 90.85%,
97.56% accuracy on three users while processing only 29% of the visual
observation on average
