New record for Tesarius Rakovic in South America (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae: Psammodiini)
The genus Tesarius Rakovic (1981) is an interesting group of wingless, nearly eyeless (yet probably functionally blind), sand dune-dwelling scarabs. There are presently 5 species in the genus, T. sulcipennis (Lea 1904) from Tasmania and 4 species in western North America. One of these native North American species, T. caelatus (LeConte 1857) has been found in Britain (Johnson 1975). The genus is reviewed by Rakovic (1981, 1984), who provides a key to species
Changes in performance on the nursing licensure examination : an investigation of possible causes
The purpose of this study was to identify possible factors that might relate to the changes in the performance on the NCLEX-RN. Data were examined on sixty-two graduates in one baccalaureate nursing program at a predominately black, moderate size state university. Questions answered by the study were: (1) Were there initial differences in the characteristics, at the time of their admission to the nursing major, between the students enrolled during the 1981-1984 and those enrolled during the 1984-1987 periods?; (2) Were there differences in the nursing program offered between the 1981- 1984 period and the 1984-1987 period?; (3) Were there differences in the students' perceptions of the nursing program of those enrolled during the 1981-1984 period and those enrolled during the 1984-1987 period
Estimating the Smoothing Parameter in the So-Called Hodrick-Prescott Filter
This note gives a fairly complete statistical description of the Hodrick-Prescott Filter (1997), originally proposed by Leser (1961). It builds on an approach to seasonal adjustment suggested by Leser (1963) and Schlicht (1981, 1984). A moments estimator for the smoothing parameter is proposed that is asymptotically equivalent to the maximum-likelihood estimator, has a straightforward intuitive interpretation and is more appropriate for short series than the maximum-likelihood estimator. The method is illustrated by an application and several simulations

Argentina Since Martinez De Hoz
The paper reviews macroeconomic events and policies in Argentina in the period 1981-1984. In that period inflation, that had decelerated to less than 100 percent, resumed and reached irore than 600 percent in mid-1984. The real exchange rate that had appreciated in the policy of disinflation depreciated sharply and, in the end-phase, real wages grew more than forty percent. These events, by Northern-Atlantic standards, are dramatic and the paper attempts to sort out the main issues and connections. Special attention is paid to the role of the real exchange rate and its relation to real wages, the determinants of the black market premium for foreign exchange, and to the budget.
