POMORS: THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL GENESIS

In the article the historical and cultural aspects of Pomors genesis in the context of history of the Russian North have been analyzed. Dialectical, historical and general logical methods such as analysis, synthesis and generalization of separate facts and data have been used in the work. Pomor culture is a culture of indigenous people of the Russian North. Pomors actively dealt with fishing, merchant shipping and shipbuilding. Pomor way of life is directly depended upon their economic activity. They dealt with hunting, fishing, smoldering, brewing, salt extraction, pottery and arts and crafts. In the article the accent has been made on the variability of interpretations of the notion “Pomors” and on the peculiarities of their national character which is the result of historical and cultural development of these people.Key words: Pomors, Russian History, Tradition, Culture, Ethnos.      доктор философских наук, профессор, Андриенко Е. Поморская культура представляет собой культуру коренного народа российского севера. Поморы активно занимались рыболовством, торговым мореплаванием и судостроением. Быт поморов напрямую соприкасался с их промысловой деятельностью. Они занимались зверобойным промыслом, рыболовством, смолокурением, пивоварением, добычей соли, владели гончарным делом и декоративно-прикладным искусством. В статье сделан акцент на вариативности интерпретаций самого понятия «поморы» и на особенностях поморского национального характера как результата исторического и культурного развития этого народа. Топонимы и катойконимы в «Словаре областного архангельского наречия» А. О. Подвысоцкого

The article deals with peculiarities of toponyms’ lexicographical description in the “Dictionary of the Regional Arkhangelsk Dialect” by Podvysotsky A.O. published in 1855. Since the compiler of the dictionary did not seek to fully and systematically describe the proper names functioning on the territory of the Arkhangelsk region (the main dictionary body is appellative vocabulary), toponyms and katoikonyms are presented by separate lexemes. The author of this publication examines the following types of dictionary entries: 1) entries with a heading wordtoponym, 2) entries with a heading word-appellative where a toponym is cited (more frequent – toponym-phrase) which contains the appellative described (in entries like this one toponyms are given as a separate meaning of a polysemantic word), 3) entries with a heading word-katoikonym or word-toponym by describing of which a katoikonym is presented. A set of structural lexicographical components is also revealed in the article (either for totality of dictionary entries containing toponyms, or regarding every type of entry), the attempt is made to structure detached dictionary entries in order to reveal the toponym lexicographical model construction algorithm in the given source

The article deals with the expression of gender issue in the ethnographic work of S.V. Maximov "The Year in the North", analyzes the speech patterns, dialect vocabulary and conversations with residents of Arkhangelsk province, wich are documented there, illustratively shows that the perception of gender in the Pomor ethnic group  differs from the standard Russian perception, though it coincides with it partly.В статье рассматривается отражение вопроса о гендере в этнографическом произведении С. В. Максимова «Год на Севере»; анализируются речевые стереотипы, диалектная лексика и задокументированные диалоги с жителями Архангельской губернии; иллюстративно доказывается, что восприятие гендера у поморов отличается от эталонного русского восприятия, несмотря на частичное совпадение.У статті розглянуто віддзеркалення питання про ґендер в етнографічному творі С. В. Максимова «Рік на Півночі»; проаналізовано мовні стереотипи, діалектну лексику і задокументовано діалоги з мешканцями Архангельської губернії; ілюстративно доведено, що сприйняття ґендеру в поморів відрізняється від еталонного російського сприйняття попри наявність часткових збігів

Reconstructing the image of the German world in the language consciousness of arkhangelsk pomors

The article presents an ethnolinguistic study which recreates the image of the German world through the eyes of the White Sea coast inhabitants. This image was formed over the centuries due to the intensive Russian-German contacts in the White Sea area, such as military campaigns (language traces, for example, were left by the war with Sweden during Peter the Great’s time and by foreign interventions during the Civil war) and the closest trade and cultural relations established between the Russian Pomors and Scandinavians since ancient times. To reconstruct this image, the author analyses the North Russian dialect’s common words and proper names derived from “German” ethnonyms and toponyms, as well as secondary ethnonyms (ethnic nicknames) denoting the representatives of the German peoples. An important source of material is unpublished data from the databases of the Toponymic Expedition of the Ural University and the Arkhangelsk Region Dictionary. Primarily, the present work investigates the vocabulary of three thematic groups: “Geographical space” (which characterizes the Pomors’ perception of space as Russian in opposition to German/Swedish/Norwegian, gives examples of the Pomors’ adoption of the German toponymy, etc.), “Man” (where designations of the representatives of the German peoples used in the Pomors’ speech, as well as semantic derivatives from the ethnonyms Swedish, Norwegian, etc., are analyzed), “Material culture” (listing the names of everyday realities (clothes, tools, dwellings, etc., such as Danish headscarf, Swedish axe, Norwegian spinning wheel) as being German or being perceived as German). The article also considers the facts of xeno-nomination, i.e. lexical units that implement generalized ideas about the otherness of an object of reality. A comprehensive study of a block of vocabulary and phraseology containing an indication of “Germanic” in the internal form or semantics allows the author to propose and justify etymological solutions for a number of words (for example, bishka ‘dry cookies,’ varezhki ‘mittens’). The article contains the author’s observations on the mechanisms of interaction between real history, oral stories and linguistic facts; it reveals common features in the images of the representative of the German world and other “strangers” in the linguistic consciousness of the inhabitants of the Russian North. © 2019, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera), Russian Academy of Sciences. К вопросу этносоциальной идентификации в приграничье

The Ethnosocial identification actualizes the issue of interaction of population groups on both sides of the border in a global world. The issue of dual ethnic identification of residents of border regions, their acquisition of new features of the neighboring cultural environment, the formation of a special border identity is raised. Similar examples exist in various countries of the world, including the European Union, the United States of America, the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation. Within the framework of the research, the author uses the following methods: historical, geopolitical and civilizational approaches, concrete historical, observation and generalization, systemic socio-political and ethnic analysis, synthesis. In the conclusions, he comes to the opinion that there is a need for a broad study of the issue of biethnors in the national sociological school, the actualization of this direction in our days.Этносоциальная идентификация актуализирует вопрос взаимодействия групп населения по обе стороны границы в условиях глобального мира. Поднимается вопрос двойной этнической идентификации жителей приграничных регионов, приобретении ими новых черт соседней культурной среды, формировании особенной пограничной идентичности. Подобные примеры есть в различных странах мира, в том числе Европейском Союзе, Соединенных Штатах Америки, Китайской народной республике и Российской Федерации. В рамках исследования автор использует следующие методы: исторический, геополитический и цивилизационный подходы, конкретноисторический, наблюдение и обобщение, системный социально-политический и этнический анализ, синтез. В выводах приходит к мнению о необходимости широкого изучения вопроса биэтноров отечественной социологической школе, актуализации данного направления в наши дни
