Ambiguous genitalia: a clinical and chromosomal study
Background: To correlate the findings of physical examination, ultrasonography and chromosomal analysis, so that to give proper advice to the concerned parents as early as possible in rearing up of the child as male or female according to the situation. Methods: The study is undertaken with forty cases with ages ranging from new borne to 20 yrs. Out of these 40 cases eight cases are below one year. In these cases physical examination is correlated with ultrasonography and chromosomal analysis. Results: In chromosomal analysis three persons out of forty cases were mosaics with 45, XO/46, twenty one cases who showed the chromosomal pattern as 46, XY mostly showed with no mullarian reminents. On examination palpable gonads were found in labio-scrotal sacs in seventeen cases. One of these cases was reared as girl found cytogenetically as 46, XY with the ultrasonographic impression as small uterus with no ovaries. Nineteen cases who with ambiguous genitalia showed the chromosomal pattern as 46, XX one out of these cases showed enlargement of the breast, and on examination of external genitalia found enlarged clitoris with labiamajora and minora. The child was brought up as male. Genitogram showed the absence of uterus. Conclusions: Chromosomal studies with ultrasonography can help in rearing a child male or female in young generation by surgical and Hormonal therapy. This prevents many problems in later life. This fact should be advertised openly in the public so that illiterate people should be alert.
Early challenge to the accountant stereotype? The accountant as hero in late Victorian romantic fiction
Recently, increasing attention has been focused on how conventionalised images of the accountant were created (Bougen, 1994). As the recent contribution to the Notebook by Boys (1994) reveals, previous to the dominance of the visual media (Beard, 1994), a potentially fruitful source of evidence of stereotyped representations of accountants is the novel. The Accountant by F.H. Mel (1894), is a rare instance of a work of romantic fiction which had as its central character an accountant
Faculty Promotion in Business Schools: What Counts and What Should Count?
The ultimate goal for college faculty is to achieve the rank of full professor. Accomplishing this is a matter of what counts. Factors related to teaching, research, and service are used as promotion criteria. Higher education administrators may exalt teaching and service; yet give more credence to research when determining pay, promotion, and tenure. This current research is born out of these ongoing discrepancies in what is purported and what is rewarded. Business faculty’s opinions on promotion criteria, that is, what counts and should count were analyzed. The results indicate differences now and compared to the past
Arcadia Christian Church Collection, 1894-1994
This collection consists of history papers, photographs, handouts newspapers, a letter, and a plat map all in relation to the Arcadia Christian Church, Arcadia, Kansas.
The original Arcadia Christian Church was built in 1893, although the congregation surrounding the church was started in the 1880s as a Sunday School class. In 1892, the State of Kansas granted the congregation a charter which resulted in the building’s construction. The church cost $1,600 and had an organ, a church bell (installed in 1897), and a seating capacity for 300 people. The Sunday School held at the church brought about the most participants. For its first ten years, the church had difficulty in finding a regular pastor. One traveling pastor that was briefly appointed was popular writer and pastor Harold Bell Wight (1872-1944), who held bible studies on Friday nights and occasionally a Sunday service. In 1909, Arcadia saw an early revival of Pentecostalism or “holiness people.” In 1914, after 21 years, the church became the First Church of Christ. In August 1915, G. W (George William) Corporon (1887-1969) became pastor, holding the position until 1919. By 1918, the Sunday School had reached 300 attendees and the yearly average of conversions and ascensions were approximately 200. After Corporon’s first resignation in 1919, the church went through a series of pastors, and saw a decline in membership. When G. W. Corporon returned in 1925, the church began to uptake home mission work, and the church once again saw an increase in members. In 1929, Reverend Corporon resigned for a second time. After a brief period of temporary pastors, Reverend. H. G. Kenney became pastor from 1930-1932. The church saw another brief period of steady growth. In 1933, Reverend Corporon returned for his third and final tenure, and was the church’s minister until his final retirement in 1943.https://digitalcommons.pittstate.edu/fa/1318/thumbnail.jp

Thus, the commemorative ceremonies are the occasion to remind the merits of the founder and the members of the community, underline their successes in the educational work and to consolidate their place among religious communities. This article tries to seize the adaptation of the commemorative speech of the SNJM through times, and the message delivered to its members and to the public by comparing the contents of the commemorative texts of the celebrations of 1894, 1944, 1969 and 1994
