Epiphanie des Augenblicks. Zeit im Werk Thomas Glavinics

Les trois romans Die Arbeit der Nacht, Das Leben der Wünsche et Das größere Wunder de l’écrivain autrichien Thomas Glavinic traitent de la vie et de l’amour du narrateur Jonas. Ils ne sont pas liés par une continuité de l’action, mais par des sujets communs. Dans les textes – c’est la thèse de ce travail – la perception du temps et le temps lui-même jouent un rôle important. Le narrateur se trouve dans des situations extrêmes et il réfléchit entre autres sur la possibilité de saisir le temps de manière durable par des signes propre à la médialité et par la perception humaine. Il s’agit d’une épiphanie de la perception de l’instant. Dans ces romans, les instants liés au bonheur et à l’amour ne peuvent être ressentis que dans l’instant même. Ainsi les textes de Glavinic peuvent être lus comme un plaidoyer pour la perception consciente et attentive des instants.In drei Romanen Die Arbeit der Nacht, Das Leben der Wünsche und Das größere Wunder des österreichischen Romanciers Thomas Glavinic (*1972), wird das Leben und die Liebe des Erzählers Jonas beschrieben. Die Verbindung zwischen den Romanen ist vor allem in ihren gemeinsamen Sujets zu sehen und nicht in einer fortlaufenden Handlung. In den Texten – so die These meines Beitrags – spielt die Wahrnehmung von Zeit und Zeit an sich eine wichtige Rolle. Der Erzähler ist Extremsituationen ausgesetzt und reflektiert darin unter anderem die Möglichkeiten Zeit auf medialen Zeichenträgern und mittels der menschlichen Wahrnehmung dauerhaft rezipierbar zu machen. Es wird eine Epiphanie des Augenblicks und der Augenblickswahrnehmung betrieben. Denn Augenblicke sind in den drei Romanen mit Glück und Liebe verknüpft und diese können nur in den Augenblicken selbst empfunden werden. So sind Glavinics Texte als ein Plädoyer der bewussten Wahrnehmung von Augenblicken im Leben lesbar.The novels entitled Die Arbeit der Nacht, Das Leben der Wünsche and Das größere Wunder by Austrian writer Thomas Glavinic (*1972) deal with the life and love story of the narrator, Jonas. They tackle the same questions but their plots loosely connected. This article argues that time and the perception of time are very important. The narrator is going through ordeals and he ponders the possibility of controlling the passing of time either through mediality or human perception. Capturing the instant becomes an epiphany. In these novels, moments in time are connected with the metathemes of happiness and love, which can only be experienced at a given moment. So Glavinic’s novels can be read as a plea for paying attention to the value of instants of time

Contraste e alteridade na viagem contemporânea

No mundo contemporâneo globalizado, definido pela sua qualidade essencialmente fluida e instável, o carácter distintivo da viagem parece dissolver-se face à contracção do planeta, à economia das ―trocas simbólicas‖ e a um alegado processo de diluição das diferenças e de homogeneização cultural. Com efeito, a mediatização da sociedade e a proliferação icónica contemporâneas produzem um aparente estado de saturação da geografia real e de multiplicação de lugares enquanto representações e imagens, permitindo pôr em causa a própria necessidade e urgência de deslocação, bem como admitir a abolição do ―estatuto de privilégio‖ de certos lugares e a derradeira quebra no conceito aurático das férias e das viagens, tradicionalmente assente em antinomias cruciais entre o quotidiano/familiar e o diferente/extraordinário. O presente artigo propõe-se abordar o paradigma da mobilidade contemporânea, nomeadamente no que diz respeito à traumática aniquilação do espaço e do tempo e ao seu impacto fortemente disruptivo sobre a dimensão ontológica de uma prática cultural cujo poder aurático se encontra tradicionalmente relacionado com a conquista de distâncias, a percepção de diferenças e a experiência de alteridade. O artigo pretende, por outro lado, refutar a declaração pós-moderna de que a familiarização com o outro conduz a uma diminuição do potencial de choque cultural no turismo contemporâneo, discutindo a relevância e a prevalência da busca de contraste e formas de vivência de alteridade no complexo novelo de motivações da viagem turística contemporânea.In today‘s globalised world, essentially defined by its fluid and unstable quality, the distinctive character of travel seems to be dissolved in consequence of the planet‘s contraction, the economy of ―symbolic exchanges‖ and the alleged process of dilution of differences and cultural homogenization. In fact, contemporary highly mediatised society and iconic proliferation produce an apparent saturation of the real geography and the multiplication of places as images and representations. This allows for the questioning of the very need and urgency to travel, as well as for the abolition of places‘ ―special status‖ and the definite destruction of the aura around holiday and travel experiences, which are traditionally based on crucial antinomies between the ordinary/familiar and the different/extraordinary. The present article aims at approaching the paradigm of contemporary mobility, namely the traumatic annihilation of space and time and its strongly disruptive impact on the ontological dimension of a cultural practice whose auratic power is traditionally related to a conquest of distances, the perception of differences and the experience of alterity. The article intends to refute the postmodern declaration that the familiarization with the other leads to a diminished potential of cultural shocks in contemporary tourism, and it discusses the prevailing relevance of the search for contrasts and forms of alterity experience within the complex cluster of current tourist motivations

Since 2009, ZEI is engaged in a research project titled "Shaping Globality". Following methodological and conceptual work, the scholars engaged in this project have begun to reflect the consequences of the "global turn" on key notions of social order. The new ZEI Discussion Paper brings together several scholarly papers on key notions of social order under the conditions of globality, written by academics of Bonn University: space (Ruth Knoblich/Robert Meyer), norm (Andreas Marchetti), world government (Christian Schwermann) and knowledge (Maximilian Mayer).
