European mineral statistics 2002-06 : a product of the World Mineral Statistics database

    Get PDF
European Mineral Statistics has over 300 pages of tables on minerals production and trade. Thirty two countries are covered including all the EU members, EU applicants, Norway and Switzerland. In the first section there are tables by country, followed by commodity tables with selected graphics and bullet points with information on use and prices

Measurements of pressures on the tail and aft fuselage of an airplane model during rotary motions at spin attitudes

    Get PDF
An investigation was conducted in the Langley Spin Tunnel to measure the pressures on the surface of the horizontal and vertical tail and the aft fuselage of an aircraft model. The pressures were measured on a model of a proposed Australian Primary Trainer airplane configuration while the model was rotating at spinning attitudes. The test results indicate that the presence of the horizontal tail adversely modifies the surface pressure on the vertical tail. The presence of the wing also adversely modifies the pressures on the horizontal and vertical tails

Stress redistribution due to creep in nimonic 90 ministry of aviation contract no. PD/28/021 report for the period June, 1965 to July, 1966: part 2

Part I of this report, dated September 1965, deals mainly with the design and construction of the special apparatus to simulate the stress redistribution occurring during the creep of a cooled turbine blade. It reported some preliminary experiments using aluminium alloy test specimens. During the past year, the period covered by this report, a series of experiments have been completed using specimens machined from nimonic 90 alloy. Experience gained in operating the apparatus, have resulted in several modifications both to the apparatus and the associated instrumentation. These are detailed within this report

    Lindi Regional and District Projections

\ud This report presents population projections for the period 2003 to 2025 for Lindi Region and its districts. The projections were made using a Cohort Component Method (Spectrum System), whereby three components responsible for population change, namely: mortality, fertility and migration were projected separately as well as HIV/AIDS prevalence. The projected components were then applied to 2002 midyear base population in order to come up with the desired projections from 2003 to 2025. The report gives mortality, fertility, migration and HIV/AIDS assumptions, and shows Lindi’s demographic and socio-economic future trends. The results include estimated population by sex in single years and five-year age groups as well as some demographic indicators. Population growth for the period 2003 to 2025 shows fluctuations. The projections show that\ud population growth rate will increase from 1.4 percent in 2003 (with a population of 801,189) to 1.6 percent in 2025 (with a population of 1,209,623). Sex Ratio at birth is projected to increase from 93 males births per 100 females in 2003 to 97 males births per 100 females in 2025. Mortality estimates show that Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is expected to decline for both sexes from 116 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2003 to 53 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2025. Under Five Mortality Rate (U5MR) for both sexes will also decline from 194 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2003 to 80 deaths per 1,000 live births in the year 2025. The mortality projected estimates further show that the life expectancy at birth for females is higher compared to that of males. Life expectancy at birth for Lindi will increase from 48 years in 2003 to 60 years in 2025 for both sexes. For male population, life expectancy at birth will increase from 47 years in year 2003 to 59 years in 2025, while for female population the life expectancy at birth will increase from 49 years in 2003 to 61 years in 2025. On fertility, TFR will decline from 4.4 children per woman in 2003 to 3.4 children per woman in 2025.\u

Development of aircraft lavatory compartments with improved fire resistance characteristics, phase 1: Fire containment test of a wide body aircraft lavatory module

    Get PDF
A test was conducted to evaluate the fire containment characteristics of a Boeing 747 lavatory module. Results showed that the fire was contained within the lavatory during the 30-minute test period with the door closed. The resistance of the lavatory wall and ceiling panels and general lavatory construction to burn-through under the test conditions was demonstrated

    Preparation of Neurospora crassa mitochondria

The fungus Neurospora crassa represents a eukaryotic cell with high biosynthetic activities. Cell mass doubles in 2-4 hr during expone ntial growth , even in simple salt media with sucrose as the sole carbon source. The microorgani sm forms a mycelium of long hyphae durlng vegetative growth . The mitochondria can be isolated under relatively gentle condi tions since a few breaks in the threadlike hyphae are sufficient to cause the outflow of the organelles. This article describes two methods for the physical disruption of the hyphae : (I) The cell s are opened in a grind mill between two rotating corundum di sks. This is a continuous and fast procedure and allows large- and small-scale preparations of mitochondria. (2) Hyphae are ground with sand in a mortar and pestle. This procedure can be applied to microscale preparations of mitochondria starting with minute amounts of cells. Other procedures for the isolation of Neurospora mitochondria after the physical di sruption or the enzymatic degradation of the cell wall have been described elsewher
