An integrated model for berth and yard planning in container terminals with multi-continuous berth layout
Abstract Discontinuities and sharp curves commonly exist in the berth layout of container terminals. To cope with these layout characteristics, traditional studies proposed discrete or hybrid modeling approaches. However, the drawback of these approaches is the low berth spaceutilization.Inreality, berthspaceisaveryscarceresourceandthedevelopmentofwhich usually involves huge investments. Accordingly, a high space utilization approach is usually indispensable to a container terminal. In the literature, continuous berth layout modeling approach is sophisticated to be good in space utilization. However, its application is limited tocontinuouslayouts, butnotfordiscontinuities.Inotherwords, itisnotapplicabletomany container terminals in reality. To ?ll this gap, this paper studies an integrated berth allocation and yard planning problem with discontinuities berth layout. A novel multi-continuous berthlayoutapproachandamixedintegerlinearprogrammingareproposedtodealwiththis new problem. In addition, a Guided Neighborhood Search (GNS) is proposed to enhance the optimization ef?ciency. Experimental results show that the GNS signi?cantly reduce computational time enabling the proposed algorithm to be applied in reality. In addition, th

Thailand orthohantavirus infection in patients with chronic kidneydisease of unknown aetiology in Sri Lanka
AbstractChronic kidney disease of unknown aetiology (CKDu) reported in Sri Lanka and other countries is a mysterious and seriousdisease. Recently, we reported a high seroprevalence of antibodies to a hantavirus antigen among CKDu patients inGirandurukotte, Badulla district, Sri Lanka. However, the type of hantavirus with which the residents were infected was notdetermined. In this study, a total of 89 seropositive sera were examined to identify their serotypes using an indirect immunofluorescentantibody assay, a truncated-N-protein-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and a cross-neutralizationtest. These results indicated that the residents in this area were frequently infected with Thailand orthohantavirus or anantigenically related virus
Complete genome analysis of a novel phage GW1 lysing Cronobacter
AbstractA newly identified lytic Cronobacter phage, GW1, was isolated from the Pearl River of Guangzhou, China. GW1 had adouble-stranded DNA genome of 39,695 nucleotides with an average GC content of 53.18 %. Among the 49 open readingframes (ORFs) identified, genes for rRNA, tRNA, antibiotic resistance, and virulence factors were not found in the phagegenome. The morphology, genomic features, and phylogenetic position of GW1 revealed that it represents a new species inthe genus T7virus. This novel lytic Cronobacter phage may provide an alternative for phage therapy and biocontrol againstCronobacter
PARV4 found in wild chimpanzee faeces: an alternate routeof transmission?
AbstractHuman parvovirus 4 (PARV4, family Parvoviridae, genus Tetraparvovirus) displays puzzling features, such as uncertainclinical importance/significance, unclear routes of transmission, and discontinuous geographical distribution. The origin,or the general reservoir, of human PARV4 infection is unknown. We aimed to detect and characterize PARV4 virus in faecalsamples collected from two wild chimpanzee populations and 19 species of captive non-human primates. We aimed toinvestigate these species as a potential reservoir and alternate route of transmission on the African continent. From almost500 samples screened, a single wild Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii sample tested positive. Full genome analysis, as well assingle ORF phylogenies, confirmed species-specific PARV4 infection
Additional changes to taxonomy ratified in a special voteby the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (October2018)
AbstractThis article reports the changes to virus taxonomy approved and ratified by the International Committee on Taxonomy ofViruses (ICTV) in October 2018. Of note, the ICTV has approved, by an absolute majority, the creation of additional taxonomicalranks above those recognized previously. A total of 15 ranks (realm, subrealm, kingdom, subkingdom, phylum, subphylum, class, subclass, order, suborder, family, subfamily, genus, subgenus, and species) are now available to encompassthe entire spectrum of virus diversity. Classification at ranks above genus is not obligatory but can be used by the authors ofnew taxonomic proposals when scientific justification is provided
