An exploratory study on the subject contents of 'Special Subject Morality' : Focusing on 'respect for rules'
In this paper, we first consider in a general and sketchy way what is required to execute inquiry about the subject content of 'Special Subject Morality.' Then, we take the content item 'respect for rules' as an example and consider what we have to "think and discuss" about it while touching upon some representative teaching materials and their challenges. By doing so, we hope to provide a model case for beginning the inquiry of the subject content of 'Special Subject Morality' and offer some suggestions for improving the learning content on 'respect for rules.'departmental bulletin pape
The development of Non-Cognitive Qualities Scale of middle school students
The present study aimed to develop a comprehensive and component-specific scale to assess "non-cognitive qualities," especially those relating to "learning motivation and personal character," which are considered essential in the context of school education. Additionally, the research sought to clarify how these non-cognitive qualities develop over the course of middle school education.
The study was conducted with 294 students from the 1st to 3rd grades of a public middle school, utilizing the "Non-Cognitive Qualities Scale" and a "Learning and School Life Survey."
As a result of the analysis, ten factors were initially yielded as elements of non-cognitive qualities. However, based on item content, eight factors were ultimately identified as valid indicators. Among these, "self-regulated learning skills" "collaborative skills" "peer relationships" "self-esteem" "authenticity" and "intrinsic motivation" appeared to be cultivated through positive school experiences and instructional strategies employed by teachers. In contrast, "perseverance" and "future-oriented goals" emerged as traits that may not demonstrate immediate impact from teachers' methods alone, indicating a need for a longer-term developmental approach.departmental bulletin pape
Synthesis, antimicrobial evaluation, ADMET prediction, molecular docking and dynamics studies of pyridine and thiophene moiety-containing chalcones
In this study, three pyridine- and four thiophene-containing chalcone derivatives were synthesized via Claisen–Schmidt condensation reaction, where five derivatives were new. Different spectral analyses (IR, 1H NMR, HRMS) clarified the structures and these proposed compounds were screened for antimicrobial activity by the agar disc diffusion technique. Compound 1c was conspicuously active against most of the bacterial and fungal strains. It displayed higher activity against Bacillus cereus (22.3 ± 0.6 mm), Shigella sonnei (43.3 ± 0.6 mm) and Shigella boydii (34.0 ± 1.0 mm) compared to the standard ceftriaxone (20.3 ± 0.6 mm, 40.3 ± 0.6 mm and 25.7 ± 0.6 mm, respectively). In addition, the exhibited inhibition zone of compound 1c against all fungal strains was higher than that of the standard amphotericin B. All the newly synthesized derivatives satisfied the ADME properties, and no toxicological risks were found. All compounds were docked against three protein receptors with the range of binding affinity of −6.3 to −9.6 kcal mol−1. Molecular dynamics simulation was scrutinized further for compound 1c in three protein–ligand complexes where root mean square deviation and root mean square fluctuation data were below 2 Å, proposing its stability inside and minimal structural changes.journal articl
“Come, You Spirits” : The Intersection of the Succubus and the One-Sex Model in Macbeth
This paper examines the recurring metaphors of sexual impotence and masturbation in Macbeth through two intellectual frameworks: the unique anatomical theories of the Renaissance and the witchcraft theories that James I adopted from the continent. The succubus-like imagery of the witches presented at the beginning of the play and the lines repeatedly suggesting Macbeth’s sexual impotence by the Macbeths highlight how the theme of “barren kingship” is expressed through metaphors of sexual desire. Particularly, the obsessions with masculinity and femininity can be interpreted, not merely as issues of gender roles, but as processes of reproductive dysfunction, in light of the contemporary concept of sexual fluidity within the one-sex model. Furthermore, Macbeth’s lines suggesting masturbatory desires symbolize the waste of bodily fluids/semen unrelated to reproduction, portraying Macbeth as a “deficient” individual incapable of producing heirs, both in terms of royal succession and family lineage.departmental bulletin pape
A study of the life planning teaching materials in high school home economics lessons
The fulfillment of learning content of lifelong life planning in high school home economics lessons is required against the background of a declining birthrate and aging population.
The objectives of this paper are 1) to understand the current situation of compatibility with Japanese Curriculum Guidelines (2019) and teaching method of life planning in Kumamoto's high schools, based on interview surveys, 2) to consider better teaching materials for life planning in high school home economics lessons.
To achieve this, we conducted interview surveys with 11 home economics high school teachers in Kumamoto from October 17 to November 28, 2023, on the current compatibility with Japanese Curriculum Guidelines (2019) and teaching methods of life planning.
The results are as follows: 1) According to our interview surveys of high school home economics teachers in Kumamoto, some teachers pointed out the problems that high school students around 15 years old are difficult to imagine future life many years after, and they design their future lives only within their own family life experiences. 2) To solve these problems, we devise teaching plans and materials for life planning, thinking about diverse ways of living and simulating future life incorporating the materials, "life and money planning game," and so on.departmental bulletin pape
