A New Colorimetrical Determination of Cholinesterase
1. We conducted additional research of Hesterin's method and made improvements on reagents. 2. Utilizing Hesterin's method we were able to verify various factors in biological determinations and have arrived at a conclusion that the method can be brought to use. 3. We established a method of quantitative determination on ChE and determined ChE value of two or three animal tissues. 4. The new method on ChE determinanion shows results parallel to Ammon's method

It is generally recognized that human twins are of two types, monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ), the former being so much alike that they can be hardly distinguished from one another ; while the latter are no more alike than ordinary brothers and sisters. There is usually no difficulty in distinguishing MZ from DZ twins, but sometimes cases arise in which the distinction is by no means clear and these have led to the possibility of a third type of twins, which has been discussed for a long time by many workers. On the other hand, it is considered to be possible from the cytological observations in various kinds of animals, that, if the twins of this third type could exist, they were from the fertilization of a ripe egg and an abnormally large second polar body by two different sperms. Rosin has recently advanced a new theory to solve statistically the problem of a third possibility of twinning, using the value of reduction introduced by Ludwig. In this paper the author has devised practical application of his theory. From the samples of twin pairs collected by the joint efforts of our Research Groups formed in 1951 for the purpose of studying twins, the author picked up 462 pairs of unlike sexed twins at random, and investigated the three human normal genetic traits of the twins and their parents, i.e., ABO blood groups, MN blood types and ear wax types (wet and dry), and analyzed the data according to Rosin's theory. As a result, significant statistics were obtained indicating the existence of a third type of twins, and the frequency of their appearance was estimated at a rate of more than 3.2 per cent in the total number of unlike sexed twins, which have been recognized a priori to be DZ

1. On the compounds related to volatile oils, correlation between the chemical structure and the potency against pig ascaris, earthworms and mice was discussed. 2. The stimulating action on earthworm muscles is not related with the chemical structure of compounds. 3. Ascaricidal action of Phenols is diminished by the introduction of an alkyl radical into the nucleus of phenols. Para-alkylphenol and meta-alkylphenol have the same potency against pig ascaris, though the later is much more toxic to mice than the former. 4. Thymol increases its ascaricidal potency by chlorination, but carvacrol does not. 5. Terpene alkohols, especially primary alkohols are much more toxic to pig ascaris as well as mice than terpene ketones. Ascaricidal action of alkylbenzenes and alkylcyclohexans with unsaturated side chains increases by hydrogenation of the side chains

Toxicity for mice was compared with stimulating effects on isolated earthworm muscles and ascaricidal properties of the following compounds; safrol, iso-safrol, dihydro-eugenol, carvacrol, chlorthvmol 1inalool, terpineol, eucalyptol, geraniol, citronellol, menthoglycol and d-limonone. 1. No definite relationship can he perceived between toxicity for mice and the stimulating action on earthworm muscles. 2. Large does of these compounds cause either convulsions or paralysis in mice. 3. Generally speaking, toxicity for mice does not always run parallel with the ascaricidal properties. However, in regard to the compounds which produce convulsive toxic effects on mice, there seems to he a parallel between toxicites for mice and pig ascaris
ストレプトマイシンによる膀胱結核の治験
A report on 42 cases of tuberculos cystitis treated with streptomysin as compared to 21 cases not receiving any chemical treatment. Out of the 42 cases 36 had renal tuberculosis of unilateral kidney (the other kidney had been removed; and 6 had tuberculosis of bilateral kidney. A total of 5 to 30 g was administered in doses varying from 0.5 to 1.0 g daily. The effects were observed through vesical symptoms : burning and frequent urination, urinary findings, cystoscopic findings and vesical capacity. Out of the 42, 20 showed remarkable improvement, 14 fair, 6 some and 2 none. The improvements were out standing in burning urination; out of the 42 cases symptoms completely vanished from 20 and 15 improved strikingly. Against frequent urination, obvious improvements were also observed which however were not as remarkable as in the cases of burning urination. Cystoscopically in 9 cases ulcers completely disappeared and in 20 ulcers were reduced remarkably. The slighter the lesions were the more conspicuous the improvements. It is worthy of notice that in one serious cases in which 20 g of streptomycin was administered, contracture of the bladder and stricture of the urethra resulted. III effects were observed in 6 cases out of the 42 which however disappeared shortly 'after termination of injections
Elucidation of the roles of protein deacetylase SIRT1 in health and diseases
Elucidation of aging is one of the most important goals of science in the post-genomic era. NAD+-dependent protein deacetylase was firstly identified as yeast silent information regulator 2 (Sir2), overexpression of which has the ability to extend the life span in yeast, Drosophila and aenorhabditis elegans. SIRT1 is a mammalian homologue of yeast Sir2. We are studying SIRT1 and investigating roles of SIRT1 in health and diseases. SIRT1 has a variety of substrate proteins such as transcription factor FOXOs, transcription coactivator PGC1 α , and proteins involved in the autophagy process. found that SIRT1 activation reduces cellular oxidative stress and improves skeletal muscle activities and cardiac function in muscular dystrophy model animals and also dystrophy patients. SIRT1 also involves in cellular migration. We found that melanoma expresses SIRT1 in lamellipodia, which is necessary for migration of melanoma cells. We found that the inhibition of SIRT1 prevents melanoma migration in vitro and in vivo. Inhibition of SIRT1 by an inhibitor significantly decreased metastasis in mice transplanted with melanoma cells.
