Perturbation of Volterra difference equations
This article is not available through ChesterRep.A fixed point theorem is used to investigate nonlinear Volterra difference equations that are perturbed versions of linear equations. Sufficient conditions are established to ensure that the stability properties of linear Volterra difference equations are preserved under perturbation. The existence of asymptotically periodic solutions of perturbed Volterra difference equations is also proved
'Something so utterly unprecedented in the annals of human life': William Carleton and the Famine

More than a game? The role of sports governing bodies in the development of sport education programmes
This article is not available through ChesterRep.This article explores the extent to which young people can transfer the skills and knowledge gained from a sport education programme to contexts experienced outside the curriculum. Furthermore, it seeks to identify how and where governing bodies of sport can be influential in the promotion of sport education values outside the school context; that is to say, are governing bodies able to develop initiatives to encourage community clubs to adopt a supporting role in the promotion and delivery of sport education
The effect of experiential anchoring on the reproducibility of exercise regulation in adolescent children
This article is not available through ChesterRep.This article discusses a study of 41 children which was undertaken to discover whether experimental anchoring would enhance the reproducibility (test-retest reliability) of adolescent children in their ability to self-regulate their exercise output on the basis of their effort perceptions. This article was submitted to the RAE2008 for the University of Chester - Allied Health Professions and Studies
From Israel to Epworth: An assessment of the Psalms in the life of Methodist worship
This dissertation looks at contemporary use of the Psalms in Methodist public worship, showing how Methodism is abandoning the tradition of using the Psalms and losing touch with both Christian tradition and the wishes of its founding father, John Wesley. The literature review considers the history of the Psalms in worship and then looks at their contemporary importance for worship. This includes an assessment of the universality both of the emotions expressed in the Psalms and of the language used. The importance of the Psalms to early Methodism is also considered. By means of two questionnaires issued to preachers and worshippers in the Lytham St Annes' Circuit of the Methodist Church, the dissertation goes on to show the limited use made of the Psalms in Methodist worship and the detrimental effect of this limited use. Finally the dissertation outlines somes means by which the Psalms might be reincorporated into Methodist worship and offers reasons, drawn from the literature review, about why this is so important for the spiritual well-being of individual worshippers
Minichromosome maintenance protein in myxofibrosarcoma
This article is not available from CheserRep. The full-text can be accessed at http://www.nature.com/modpathol/journal/v17/n2/full/3800044a.htmlHistopathological assessment of myxofibrosarcoma may be difficult, especially on the basis of a small core biopsy, which enables only a crude evaluation of grade and prognosis. Hypothesis - that determination of cell cycle state may assist in the diagnostic assessment of myxofibrosarcoma. 51 cases of high-grade (n=20), intermediate-grade (n=21), and low-grade (n=10) myxofibrosarcomas were studied, as well as nine cases of benign myxoma. Cell cycle state within tumors was determined by immunostaining for the recently described marker minichromosome maintenance protein 2 (MCM2), together with Ki67. Labelling indices for both markers were correlated with tumor grade, mitotic index, and time to first recurrence. The MCM2 labelling indices were significantly higher than the Ki-67 labelling indices. Both indices showed a significant correlation with the mitotic index and both showed significant increases with increasing grade of myxofibrosarcoma. The MCM2 labelling index (but not the Ki67 labelling index) showed a significant inverse exponential correlation with the time to first recurrence. Myxoid and cellular areas showed no difference in the MCM2 and Ki-67 labeling index, suggesting that clinically useful information could be obtained from any component of a myxofibrosarcoma sampled in a needle biopsy and/or cytological specimen. We therefore suggest that assessment of cell cycle state may be a useful diagnostic adjunct in the histopathological assessment of myxofibrosarcoma, by enabling more accurate determination of grade and prediction of outcome. This article was submitted to the RAE2008 for the University of Chester - Allied Health Professions and Studies
